Abstract: Learning style in SLA is one of the individual factors in SLA. This paper starts by stating the importance of studying learning styles. Then it quotes several definitions of learning style. The main part of it sums up the types and models of learning styles. Learning style is mainly divided into three categories: perceptual learning style, cognitive learning style and personality learning style. In the end, it states the implications of learning style for language learning and language teaching.
Quantum and Transport Mobilities of a Two-Dimensional Electron Gas in the Presence of the Rashba Spin-Orbit Interaction

Abstract: A systematic theoretical approach is developed to study the electronic and transport properties of a twodimensional electron gas (2DEG) in the presence of spin-orbit interactions induced by the Rashba effect. The standard random-phase approximation is employed to calculate the screening length caused by electron-electron interaction in different transition channels. The quantum and transport mobilities in different spin branches are evaluated using the momentum-balance equation derived from the Boltzmann equation,in which the electron interactions with both the remote and background impurities are taken into account in an InAlAs/InGaAs heterojunction at low-temperatures.

The western thoughts have brought many new ideas to China in 19th century, and influenced the words’ meanings of Chinese words system. The Chinese-English translated terms and their different derivations bridge the gap between different cultures. The scholar translated English word “civilization” into Chinese word “wenming”. “Wenming” is derived from “wen” and “ming”. “Wen” means “People feel and experience the nature by heart, and then painting and describing things, at last, one can obtain knowledge through this process”. “Ming” means “based on wen, people are conducted to the correct direction, and become enlightened and civilized”. “Civilization” is derived from “civil”. And “civil”, “civis”, “civitas” and “civilitas” have the same word origin. The radical factors of the meaning of the word “civilization” are “make” and “development”. They focused on the “town” and “city”, namely, the process of cumulating wealth and remolding the nature through human being intervening in nature actively. The different word derivations between “wenming” and “civilization” disclose the differences of the location and culture when the modern thought of civilization was pervading the whole world. At the same time, with the semantic developing of “wenming”, it has the similar concept connotation with “civilization”, so it displays the compatible property and makes it possible for translation between two language units.

Approximative Method of Fixed Point for Φ-Pseudocontractive Operator and an Application to Equation with Accretive Operator  [PDF]

In this paper, Φ-pseudo-contractive operators and Φ-accretive operators, more general than the strongly pseudo-contractive operators and strongly accretive operators, are introduced. By setting up a new inequality, authors proved that if  is a uniformly continuous Φ-pseudo-contractive operator then T has unique fixed point q and the Mann iterative sequence with random errors approximates to q. As an application, the iterative solution of nonlinear equation with Φ-accretive operator is obtained. The results presented in this paper improve and generalize some corresponding results in recent literature.

Transmission of Terahertz Acoustic Waves through Graphene-Semiconductor Layered Structures  [PDF]

Abstract: We present a theoretical study of the acoustic properties of graphene-semiconductor layered structures. The transmission coefficient for longitudinal acoustic waves through the structure is evaluated by using the usual transfer matrix method. We find that the finite thickness of the graphene layer can affect significantly the transmission spectrum of the proposed structure. The features of the sound transmittance depend strongly on the number of the graphene layers. For mul-ti-layer graphene-semiconductor structures, the sound transmission spectrum looks very similar to that for an ideal superlattice. For such structures, terahertz acoustic forbidden gap can be observed even when a thick semiconductor layer is considered. These results are the consequence of the Bragg’s condition for sound waves. This study is relevant to the exploration of the acoustic properties of graphene-based layered structures and to the application of graphene as high-frequency acoustic devices.
Long-Period InAs/GaSb Type-II Superlattices for Terahertz Application  [PDF]

Abstract: We present a theoretical study on the terahertz (THz) optoelectronic properties of long-period InAs/GaSb type-II super lattices (SLs). The eight-band k·p model is used to calculate the electronic structures of such SLs and on the basis of band structures, the Boltzmann equation approach is employed to calculate the optical absorption coefficients for the corresponding SL systems. It is found that long-period InAs/GaSb type-II SLs have a considerable absorption in the THz bandwidth. By examining the dependence of THz absorption coefficient on the InAs/GaSb layer widths, we demonstrate that with a proper choice of InAs/GaSb layer widths, an optimized THz absorption can be achieved. This study is pertinent to the potential application of InAs/GaSb type-II SLs as THz photo detectors.

Effects of isolation after sexual experience on anxiety-like, depressive-like behaviors and affective states in male rats

Abstract: Studies on social isolation have provided evidence for an enhanced anxiety-like phenotype, depressive-like symptoms and higher levels of 22-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations (USVs); whereas sexual experience could induce significant changes in affective states, decrease anxiety- and depressive-like responses. However, the behavioral and emotional alterations in male rats exposed to isolation after sexual experience remain poorly understood. Therefore, the present study examined anxiety- and depressive-like parameters, as well as USV emissions in male rats isolated for 1, 2, or 7 d following 1-week sexual (male-female paired housing) or social (male-male paired housing) interaction. Isolation for 1 d resulted in increased depressive-like symptoms, and 2-d isolation induced elevated anxiety-like behavior in sexually inexperienced rats, while rats with sexual experience exhibited comparable levels of emotionality at each isolation time. Moreover, isolated rats without sexual experience emitted less 22- and 50-kHz USVs, but sexually experienced rats exhibited similar affective states compared with control ones. These results suggested that prior sexual experience could have a modulatory effect on experimental rat emotional responses to isolation.
