Comparative Study of the Therapeutic Effects of Two Corpus Luteum Support Regimens on Patients with Frozen Embryo Transfer  [PDF]

Abstract: Aim: To investigate the efficacy of two corpus luteum support programs in patients with frozen embryo transfer (FET). Methods: A retrospective analysis of the complete clinical data of 340 patients undergoing in vitro fertilization embryo transfer in the Department of Reproductive Medicine, Jingzhou Central Hospital from September 2016 to July 2018. These patients were divided into group A and B according to the luteal support program. We compared the clinical outcomes of the two corpus luteum preparations by comparing the laboratory parameters of the two groups of patients with clinical pregnancy indicators. Results: We found there was no significant difference in the results of general conditions in the two groups of patients, such as infertility age and duration, body mass index (BMI), basal follicle stimulating hormone (FSH), basal luteinizing hormone (LH), basal estrogen (E2) levels, the endometrial thickness, the number of transplanted high-quality embryos on the day of transplantation and so on (P > 0.05). We found that the implantation rate (32.55%), biochemical pregnancy rate (53.57%), and clinical pregnancy rate (51.78%) in group B were significantly higher than those in group A (25.26%, 35.11%, and 34.66%, respectively) (P < 0.05). We also found there is no significant difference in spontaneous abortion rate (15.30% vs 15.87%) and multiple pregnancy rate (13.61% vs 14.28%) between patients in group A and group B (P > 0.05). Conclusion: We conclude that patients who are scheduled for frozen embryo transfer use progesterone vaginal sustained release capsules combined with luteal progesterone luteal support, have improved clinical pregnancy rates.

Rousseau and His Team’s Study on Gefura Measures  [PDF]

Abstract: Guns and Rousseau’s recently published paper in FITEE gives a clear introduction about some important research results related to complex networks, which deepens people’s understanding of network characteristics, and puts forward new measures and models. The proposed gefura measures show the significance of appropriately using a “basic” normalization to describe the betweenness centrality of nodes, and then the “structural” normalization to pay more attention to the level of groups. The term “gefura measures” is from old Greek γεφυρα, meaning bridge measure, a more descriptive term with universal appeal. More specifically, they applied the Brandes algorithm to calculate the gefura measures, which makes their article easier to apply to practical cases. Even in academia, any new ideas, concepts, indicators and models should stand the test of time. The spirit of innovation of Rousseau and his team is highly recommendable. We sincerely hope that the study on gefura measures can raise more concerns, and can be recognized and used by social scientists, informetricians, and colleagues studying complex networks from all over the world as an important outcome.
Charge trapping-detrapping induced resistive switching in Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3

Abstract: Intensive research has been devoted to the resistive switching phenomena observed in many transitional metal oxides because of its potential for non-volatile memory application. To clarify the underlying mechanism of resistive switching, a planar device can provide information that is not accessible in conventional vertical sandwich structures. Here we report the observation of resistive switching behavior in a Pt/Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3/Pt planar device. Using in-situ scanning Kelvin probe microscopy, we demonstrate that charge trapping/detrapping around the Pt/Ba0.7Sr0.3TiO3 interface modulates the Schottky barrier, resulting in the observed resistive switching. The findings are valuable for the understanding of resistive switching in oxide materials.
Multiobjective Optimization of Low-Specific-Speed Multistage Pumps by Using Matrix Analysis and CFD Method

Abstract: The implementation of energy-saving and emission-reduction techniques has become a worldwide consensus. Thus, special attention should be provided to the field of pump optimization. With the objective of focusing on multiobjective optimization problems in low-specific-speed pumps, 10 parameters were carefully selected in this study for an (310) orthogonal experiment. The parameters include the outlet width of the impeller blade, blade number, and inlet setting angle of the guide vane. The numerical calculation appropriate for forecasting the performance of multistage pumps, such as the head, efficiency, and shaft power, was analyzed. Results were obtained after calculating the two-stage flow field of the pump through computational fluid dynamics (CFD) methods. A matrix method was proposed to optimize the results of the orthographic experiment. The optimal plan was selected according to the weight of each factor. Calculated results indicate that the inlet setting angle of the guide vane influences efficiency significantly and that the outlet angle of blades has an effect on the head and shaft power. A prototype was produced with the optimal plan for testing. The efficiency rating of the prototype reached 58.61%; maximum shaft power was within the design requirements, which verifies that the proposed method is feasible for pump optimization. 1. Introduction Pumps are widely utilized in various fields of the national economy [1]. Where there is water, there are pumps. Low-specific-speed centrifugal pumps are commonly employed in sewage treatment and well pumping because of their small flow and high head. They consume large amounts of energy and have a potential for energy saving. Low efficiency and overload tendency in long-term large-flow operations are the two obstacles in designing such pumps; the impeller diameter of low-specific-speed centrifugal pumps is relatively large, and the flow channel is long and narrow, resulting in significant disc friction and hydraulic loss. Thus, the efficiency of low-specific-speed centrifugal pumps is relatively low; the shaft power curves of such pumps increase sharply. The greater flow method is usually adopted in the design of low-specific-speed pumps to enhance flow efficiency. Thus, the ratio of macroshaft power to designed power becomes much higher than that of common centrifugal pumps. A motor whose export pipeline has no valve burns out easily [2, 3]. Pumps are usually designed in multistages to increase the amount of pressure because of limitations imposed by costs or diameter, such as the case of well pumps.

Abstract:

Multi-gram synthesis and densification is presented for a porous polymer network (PPN-4) examined as a possible vehicular methane storage material. Compaction at 17,000 psi doubled the bulk density of the material and unexpectedly increased microporosity within the material. As a result, the densified material exhibits higher excess gravimetric methane uptake and improved total volumetric methane uptake relative to the powder.

Frequency of TLR 2, 4, and 9 Gene Polymorphisms in Chinese Population and Their Susceptibility to Type 2 Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) are pivotal components of the innate immune response. Activation of the innate immune system and subsequent chronic low-grade inflammation are thought to be involved in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and type 2 diabetes. In the study, we genotyped TLRs gene polymorphisms, including TLR2 Arg677Trp and Arg753Gln, TLR4 Asp299Gly and Thr399Ile, TLR9-1486T/C and -1237T/C. The frequencies of TT, TC and CC genotype of TLR9-1486T/C mutation were 39.6%, 45.8% and 14.6%, respectively; the frequencies of T allele and C allele were 62.5% and 37.5%. However, neither of these parameters was statistically significant among study groups. In addition, we were surprised to find that the commonly reported TLR SNPs in the Western countries, like TLR2 Arg677Trp or Arg753Gln, TLR4 Asp299Gly or Thr399Ile and TLR9-1237T/C, were not polymorphic at all in all study subjects. In conclusion, our data suggests that TLR2 Arg677Trp or Arg753Gln, TLR4 Asp299Gly or Thr399Ile and TLR9-1237T/C polymorphisms have low frequency and TLR9-1486T/C polymorphism may not be a suitable marker in predicting the susceptibility to type 2 diabetes or coronary artery disease in the Chinese Han population.
A New Proposed Return Guide Vane for Compact Multistage Centrifugal Pumps

Abstract: For widely used multistage centrifugal pumps, their former structures are so bulky that nowadays growing interest has been shifted to the development of more compact structures. Following this trend, a compact pump structure is provided and analysed. To maintain the pump’s pressure recovery, as well as to meet the water flow from the impeller, a circumferential twisted return guide vane (RGV) is proposed. To validate this design method, the instantaneous CFD simulations are performed to investigate the rotor-stator interventions. Within the impeller, the pressure fluctuation is cyclic symmetry, where the impeller frequency dominates. At the zone where flow leaves impeller for RGV, the pressure fluctuation is nonperiodic, the impeller frequency is major, and the rotation frequency is secondary. Within RGV, the periodic symmetric fluctuation is recovered, where the rotation frequency is governing. The fluctuation decreases from seven cycles within impeller to two cycles within RGV, indicating that the flow from impeller is well handled by RGV. To examine the pump’s performance, a prototype multistage pump is designed. The testing shows that the pump efficiency is 57.5%, and the stage head is 9?m, which is comparable to former multistage centrifugal pumps. And this design is more advantageous in developing compact multistage centrifugal pumps. 1. Introduction To meet variable flow angles into gas turbines, hydraulic runners, and so forth, inlet guide vane (IGV) is adopted to keep them operating at peak performance [1–5]. For compressors, fans, pumps, and so forth, IGV is also used to manipulate their operating load [6–11]. Outlet guide vane (OGV) is heavily used at downstream of low pressure turbines, fans, compressors, and pumps, where the rotating velocity can be effectively transformed to static pressure, reducing flow-induced vibration and noise [12–19]. Nozzle guide vane (NGV) is widely used in turbines. More specially, return guide vane (RGV) is applied for multistage centrifugal turbomachines, where RGV is functioned as an OGV with respect to its upstream stage; meanwhile, it is served as an IGV with respect to its downstream stage, which increases its design complexity [20–23]. In the first place, a suitable guide vane design is critical for overall stage performance. Abstract: The novel strain-driven morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) in highly-strained BiFeO3 thin film is featured by ordered mixed phase nanodomains (MPNs). Through scanning probe microscopy and synchrotron X-ray diffraction, eight structural variants of the MPNs are identified. Detailed polarization configurations within the MPNs are resolved using angular-dependent piezoelectric force microscopy. Guided by the obtained results, deterministic manipulation of the MPNs has been demonstrated by controlling the motion of the local probe. These findings are important for in-depth understanding of the ultrahigh electromechanical response arising from phase transformation between competing phases, enabling future explorations on the electronic structure, magnetoelectricity and other functionalities in this new MPB system.
A Study of Parallel Self-Organizing Map

Abstract: A Parallel Self-Organizing Map (Parallel-SOM) is proposed to modify Kohonen's SOM in parallel computing environment. In this model, two separate layers of neurons are connected together. The number of neurons in both layers and connections between them is the product of the number of all elements of input signals and the number of possible classification of the data. With this structure the conventional repeated learning procedure is modified to learn just once. The once learning manner is more similar to human learning and memorizing activities. During training, weight updating is managed through a sequence of operations among some transformation and operation matrices. Every connection between neurons of input/output layers is considered as a independent processor. In this way, all elements of the Euclidean distance matrix and weight matrix are calculated simultaneously. The minimum distance of every line of distance matrix can be found by Grover's search algorithm. This synchronization feature improves the weight updating sequence significantly. With a typical classification example, the convergence result demonstrates efficient performance of Parallel-SOM. Theoretic analysis and proofs also show some important properties of proposed model. Especially, the paper proves that Parallel-SOM has the same convergence property as Kohonen's SOM, but the complexity of former is reduced obviously.
