Factors That Motivate the Use of IT Outsourcing in Thailand

Abstract: IT outsourcing is the subcontracting of previous in-house IT activities to external IT vendors who can do them better and more efficiently because they possess higher resources and expertise. This study seeks to research on factors that motivate IT outsourcing in Thailand and the significance of each factor. The conceptual framework is presented and it is suggested that four factors, which are core business factor, technology factors, expertise, reliability and quality factors, and cost savings factors, play an important role in motivating firms to do IT outsourcing. The research conducted utilized one sample t-test to prove that each factor positively influences IT outsourcing. The results concluded that all four factors positively influence IT outsourcing of which core business factor and expertise, reliability and quality factors are the most important factors. This paper also concludes that contrary to the U.S and the U.K where cost the savings factor is the most significant, Thailand’s most significant motivating factor for IT outsourcing is for it to be able to focus on its core business. Lastly, this research also provides several major recommendations that IT outsourcers must acknowledge and implement.
The Insight Study of Consumer Life-styles and Purchasing Behaviors in Songkla Province, Thailand

Abstract: Purposes of the insight study of consumer life-styles and purchasing behaviors in Songkla province, Thailand” were: 1) to understand consumer life-styles and purchasing behaviors; 2) to determine the factors affecting consumer life-styles and purchasing behaviors; and 3) to examine consumer attitudes among traditional and modern trade channels. The data were collected through self-administered questionnaires among a sample of 300 consumers in Songkla province. Descriptive and inferential statistics, composed of frequency, percentage, t-test, and multiple regression, were used in the data analysis. The results indicated that consumer life-styles oriented in outgoing, dependent in decision making, economically conscious, necessity and convenience concern. The purchasing behaviors were focus on product variety, facility & service, outlet location, pricing, product quality, refreshment of product and product modernity. At a 0.05 statistically significant level, demographic and socio-economic characteristics affecting consumer life-styles and purchasing behaviors. There were discernable consumers’ attitudinal differences between traditional and modern trade channels.

Sales Analysis with Application to Sparkling Beverage Products Sales in Southern Thailand

Abstract: Managers need to know about their business performance and how to gain rapid insight into fast-growth products and profit opportunities. This case study used monthly sales revenue from sparkling beverages of data collected routinely from 14 provinces of Southern Thailand during years 2000-2006. Linear regression models of log-transformed sales revenue per 1000 population were used to analyse per capita revenue and study product preference with respect to flavour and branch location. Population data was obtained from the 2000 Population and Housing Census of Thailand. The model contains quarterly effects and interactions associated with flavour-branch and branch-year. The average annual per capita consumption value rate was 297 baht for the population of 8.087 million residents in Southern Thailand. Branches in Samui and Phuket had higher rates than other branches. In addition, areas with different proportions of Muslims in their population had different beverage preferences.
Study of Liquid Alkanes Production from Biomass-Derived Carbohydrates by Aldol-Condensation and Hydrogenation Processes

Abstract: This research aims to synthesis liquid alkanes from biomass-derived hydroxyl methyl furfural (HMF) and furfural by aldol-condensation and hydrogenation processes over several catalysts i.e. TiO2, TiO2-ZrO2, Pd/Al2O3 and Pd/CeO2. It was found that the catalysts make significant impact on the selectivity and yield of alkanes product. It is noted that Pd/Al2O3 provided the highest alkane yield and selectivity. The aldol-condensation and hydrogenation of HMF over Pd/Al2O3 provide high C12 selectivity whereas the aldol-condensation and hydrogenation of furfural over Pd/Al2O3 provide high C8 selectivity. The effects of reaction temperature, reaction pressure and reaction time were then studied. The effect of inlet furfural to acetone molar ratio was also determined. It was also found that the optimized conditions to maximize the yield of alkane production from the aldol-condensation/hydrogenation of HMF and furfural are (i) at 53oC and 24 hr for aldol-condenstation of HMF, (ii) 80oC and 24 hr for aldol-condenstation of furfural, and (iii) 120oC for 6 hr with HMF to acetone molar ratio of 3:1 and furfural to acetone molar ratio of 4:1 in the presence of Pd/Al2O3 (calcined at 500oC) for hydrogenation reaction.

Abstract: The title compound, (C13H16N4)[ZnCl4], consists of a tetrahedral [ZnCl4]2 anion and a 2-{2-[4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]diazen-1-ium-1-yl}pyridinium dication. The pyridinium-N atom is syn to the azo bond which allows for the formation of an intramolecular N—H...N hydrogen bond. In the crystal, the cation and anion are held together by N—H...Cl hydrogen-bond interactions involving the pyridinium and diazen-1-ium N atoms. π–π stacking interactions occur between the pyridine and benzene rings of adjacent cations [centroid–centroid distances = 3.6270 (18) and 3.8685 (18) ]; the stacks are parallel to the a axis.
