Tunable Omnidirectional Surface Plasmon Resonance in Cylindrical Plasmonic Structure

Abstract: The tunable omnidirectional surface plasmon resonance in the optical range is theoretically demonstrated in a cylindrical plasmonic crystal by using rigorous coupled-wave analysis. The cylindrical plasmonic crystal consists of an infinite chain of two-dimensional cylindrical metal--dielectric-dielectric-metal structures. The dispersion relation of the cylindrical plasmonic crystal is obtained by calculating the absorptance as a function of a TM-polarized incident plane wave and its in-plane wave vector. The omnidirectional surface plasmon resonance can be tuned from UV region to visible region by adjusting the thickness of the cylindrical dielectric layers. The absorption spectrum of the infinite chain of nanocylinders is also investigated for comparison.
Bound polaron in quantum dot quantum well structures

Abstract: The problem of bound polarons in quantum dot quantum well (QDQW) structures is studied theoretically. The eigenfrequencies of bulk longitudinal optical (LO) and surface optical (SO) modes are derived in the framework of the dielectric continuum approximation. The electron--phonon interaction Hamiltonian for QDQW structures is obtained and the exchange interaction between impurity and LO-phonons is discussed. The binding energy and the trapping energy of the bound polaron in CdS/HgS QDQW structures are calculated. The numerical results reveal that there exist three branches of eigenfrequencies of surface optical vibration in the CdS/HgS QDQW structure. It is also shown that the binding energy and the trapping energy increase as the inner radius of the QDQW structure decreases, with the outer radius fixed, and the trapping energy takes a major part of the binding energy when the inner radius is very small.

Abstract: The SDS-PAGE patterns of proteins, which extracted from Spirulina platensis by extractant containing SDS and purified by -20℃ actone,were clear and had many bands. The SDS-PAGE analysis of Sp-D,Sp-Y ,Sp-F ,Sp-J ,Sp-B, Sp-S ,Sp-K ,Sp-Z and it' s mutants: Sp-Z(S) and Sp-Z (L) showed that: (1) The protein bands of Spirulina mainly distributed from 31 kD to 188 kD,the patterns among strains were similar, but there were some remarkable differences, which could be valuable in the systematic taxonomic study of Spirulina; (2) The same protein patterns of Sp-J and Sp-K further indicated that they belonged to same strain; (3) Sp-Z(S) and Sp-Z(L) are the mutants from Sp-Z. A new 43 kD protein appeared on the pattern of Sp-Z(S) which could grow splendidly in sea-water media. And the 87 kD protein disappeared on the pattern of Sp-Z(L) with linear filaments; (4) The methods of protein SDS-PAGE could be useful in the taxonomic study and mutant identification of Spirulina.
Luminescence Characteristics of Dy3+ Activated LiCaBO3 Phosphor

Abstract: LiCaBO3 y3+ phosphor was synthesized by solid-state method. LiCaBO3 y3+ phosphor shows several bands peaking at 484, 577 and 668nm. Monitoring at 577nm peak, the excitation spectrum has several bands peaking at 331, 368, 397, 433, 462 and 478nm. The emission spectrum and luminescence intensity of LiCaBO3 y3+ phosphor were investigated by varying Dy3+ concentration. The result shows that the ratio (Y/B) of yellow emission (577nm) to blue emission (484nm) increases with increasing Dy3+ concentration. Moreover, the luminescence intensity firstly increases and then decreases with increasing Dy3+ concentration, and reaches the maximum at 3.00mol% Dy3+. And the concentration quenching mechanism is the d-d interaction by Dexter theory. The emission intensity of LiCaBO3 y3+ phosphor is enhanced with doping Li+, Na+ or K+. The InGaNa2based LiCaBO3 y3+ shows a nice white-emitting, and the CIE chromaticity is (x=0.3001, y=0.3152).
Preparation and Luminescent Characteristics ofKBaPO4,Tb3+ Phosphor

Abstract: A green phosphor, KBaPO4:Tb3+, was synthesized by the high temperature solid―state method, using Li2CO3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, BaCO3, NH4H2PO4, NH4Cl, Tb4O7 and CeO2 as starting materials. After these individual materials were blended and grounded thoroughly in an agate mortar, the homogeneous mixture was heat―treated at 950 for 3 h, and the phosphors were obtained. The samples was characterized by powder X―ray diffraction (XRD) (D/max―rA, Cu Ka, 40 kV, 40 mA, λ=0.15406 nm). The spectral characteristics of these phosphors were measured by a SHIMADZU RF―540 fluorescence spectrophotometer. KBaPO4:Tb3+ phosphor shows several emission peaks located at 437, 490, 545, 586 and 622 nm which correspond to the 5D3→7F4 and 5D4→7FJ=6. 5, 4, 3 transition of Tb3+, respectively, and the highest emission peak is 545 nm. Monitored at 545 nm emission, the excitation spectrum consists of several bands, and the highest peak locates at 380 nm. The effects of Tb3+ doping content, the compensators (Li+, Na+, K+ or Cl―), and the sensitize activator Ce3+ on the emission intensity of KBaPO4: Tb3+ phosphor are studied. The results show that the emission intensity can be controlled by the above factors, and the intensity can be enhanced by the selection of the optimal condition. It indicates that KBaPO4:Tb3+ is a promising green phosphor for white light emitting diodes.
Expression of interleukin-22/STAT3 signaling pathway in ulcerative colitis and related carcinogenesis

Abstract: AIM: To investigate the expression of interleukin (IL)-22 and its related proteins in biopsy specimens from patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) and UC-related carcinogenesis. METHODS: Biopsy specimens were obtained from patients with inactive (n = 10), mild-to-moderately active (n = 30), severely active (n = 34), initial (n = 30), and chronic UC (n = 44), as well as UC patients with dysplasia (n = 10). Specimens from patients without colonic abnormalities (n = 20) served as controls. Chronic colitis in experimental mice was induced by 2.5% dextran sodium sulfate. The expression levels of IL-22, IL-23, IL-22R1 and phosphorylated STAT3 (p-STAT3) were determined by immunohistochemistry. Bcl-2, cyclin D1 and survivin expression was detected by Western blotting. RESULTS: Patients with active UC had significantly more IL-22, IL-23, IL-22R1 and p-STAT3-positive cells than the patients with inactive UC and normal controls. Furthermore, IL-22 and related proteins were closely related to the severity of the colitis. The expression of IL-22 and IL-22R1 in the tissue of initial UC was stronger than in that of chronic UC, whereas the expression of p-STAT3 was significantly increased in chronic UC tissues. In dysplasia tissues, the expression level of IL-22 and related proteins was higher compared with controls. Mouse colitis model showed that expression of IL-22, IL-22R1 and IL-23 was increased with time, p-STAT3 and the downstream gene were also remarkably upregulated. CONCLUSION: IL-22/STAT3 signaling pathway may be related to UC and UC-induced carcinogenesis and IL-22 can be used as a biomarker in judging the severity of UC.

Abstract: A novel method was proposed to predict the Gene Ontology (GO) functions of proteins from the pocket similarity network, which is constructed according to the structure similarities of pockets. The statistics of the networks were presented to explore the relationship between the similar pockets and GO functions of proteins. Cross-validation experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. Results and codes are available at: http://zhangroup.aporc.org/bioinfo/PSN/ webcite.The computational results demonstrate that the proposed method based on the pocket similarity network is effective and efficient for predicting GO functions of proteins in terms of both computational complexity and prediction accuracy. The proposed method revealed strong relationship between small surface patterns (or pockets) and GO functions, which can be further used to identify active sites or functional motifs. The high quality performance of the prediction method together with the statistics also indicates that pockets play essential roles in biological interactions or the GO functions. Moreover, in addition to pockets, the proposed network framework can also be used for adopting other protein spatial surface patterns to predict the protein functions.It becomes an increasingly important task to annotate protein functions when more and more protein sequences and three dimensional structures become available [1]. A fundamental axiom of biology is the cascade that an amino-acid sequence determines a protein structure, and in turn a protein structure determines protein function [2]. Traditionally, functional relationships among proteins are inferred based on the similarities of conserved sequences. Abstract: 通过分析人工湿地的生态系统服务功能,阐述了黄河湿地生物多样性保护与水文调控生态功能区的重要性,计算了兰州银滩湿地的固碳释氧、空气质量调节、水源涵养和科研文化四项核心生态经济价值。结果表明:银滩湿地核心生态经济价值理论值为1623.7万元,其中固碳释氧和科研文化价值实现率较高,分别为324.88万元和11.53万元。但现状水分供给、生态结构方面尚存在不合理之处,通过合理配置树草种构成,优化引水渠道等措施,该湿地将发挥更大的生态经济效益。
