The Researches on Exchange Rate Risk of Chinese Commercial Banks Based on Copula-Garch Model  [PDF]

After the exchange rate reforms in 2005, China has transformed the fixed exchange rate system into a floating exchange rate system dominated by market supply and demand. Commercial banks will face with greater exchange rate risk. Therefore, how to estimate exchange rate risk and keep the optimal portfolio of foreign exchange is an important research subject. This article chooses the date of the RMB exchange rate against the dollar and the yen from the January 1, 2008 to May 21, 2012 as samples, describes the joint distribution of the two assets using Copula-Garch model, thus eventually works out the optimal holding ratio of the two foreign currency assets under minimal risk situations.

Correlation analysis between the carotid artery ather osclerosis severity of patients with lacunar infarct and the level of serum uric acid, high-sensitivity C-reactive protein

Abstract: Background Nowadays, clinical practice shows that the number of patients with cerebral infarction increases year by year in young and middle-aged adults with unclear causes. This paper aims to investigate the correlation between the level of serum uric acid (UA), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) and the degree of carotid atherosclerosis by detecting the level of UA, hsCRP and carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in young and middle-aged patients with lacunar infarct. Methods By using Holland Philips HT-11 color Doppler ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus with linear type probe and 7.50MHz frequency, IMT of end-diastolic distal and bifurcation of arteria carotis communis and proximal internal carotid artery were measured respectively on 186 patients with definitely diagnosed lacunar infarct. As a result, average values were taken as the IMT values. IMT < 1.00 mm was regarded as negative result and 1.00 mm ≤IMT < 1.20 mm was thickening of carotid artery intima. Carotid artery plaque formation was regarded with echo structure existing in the lumen or abnormal blood flow deficits into the lumen, or local IMT ≥1.20 mm at vertical and horizontal scan. At the same time, the levels of UA and hsCRP were detected, and correlation analysis was made between them and IMT. Results The values of UA, hsCRP and IMT in the case group were higher than that in the control group (P = 0.000). The differences among the case subgroups including IMT thickening group, plaque formation group and IMT normal group were statistically significant (P < 0.01, for all). There was linear correlation between the levels of UA, hsCRP and IMT ( r = 0.923, P = 0.000; r = 0.955, P = 0.008). Conclusion UA and hsCRP involve in the formation of atherosclerosis plaque and play an important role in the first-onset lacunar infarct patients without hypertension and other risk factors.
Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetic Nanosized / Composite Particles

Abstract: Using the prepared Fe3O4 particles of 10 nm–25 nm as magnetic core, we synthesized Fe3O4/MnO2 composite particles with MnO2 as the shell by homogeneous precipitation. Their structure and morphology were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), transmission electronic microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectra (FTIR), and vibration-sample magnetometer (VSM). We show that with urea as precipitant transparent and uniform MnO2 coating of ca.3 nm thick on Fe3O4, particles can be obtained. The composite particles have better dispersivity than the starting materials, and exhibit super-paramagnetic properties and better chemical adsorption ability with saturated magnetization of 33.5 emu/g. Decoloration experiment of methyl orange solution with Fe3O4/MnO2 composite suggested that the highest decoloration rate was 94.33% when the pH of methyl orange solution was 1.3 and the contact time was 50 minutes. So this kind of Fe3O4/MnO2 composite particle not only has super-paramagnetic property, but also good ability of chemical adsorption.
Min-Min Chromosome Genetic Algorithm for Load Balancing in Grid Computing

Abstract: Load balancing is a very important and complex problem in grid computing. This paper studies Min-min chromosome genetic algorithm (MCGA) to gauge their suitability for solving grid load balancing problems. The effectiveness of the MCGA algorithm is shown for a number of test problems. Performance comparisons with Min-min, and genetic algorithm are also discussed.
Fine mapping and candidate gene analysis of purple pericarp gene Pb in rice (Oryza sativa L.)

Abstract: Purple rice is a type of rice with anthocyanins deposited in its grain pericarp. The rice Pb gene controlling purple pericarp character is known to be on chromosome 4, and the purple color is dominant over white color. In this study, we fine mapped the Pb gene using two F2 segregating populations, i.e. Pei’ai 64S (white) × Yunanheixiannuo (purple) and Pei’ai 64S × Chuanheinuo (purple). In the first-pass mapping, the Pb gene was located in the region downstream the SSR marker RM3820. In the fine mapping, the candidate region was saturated with InDel and CAPS markers developed specifically for this study. Eventually, the Pb gene was mapped within the 25-kb region delimited by the upstream marker RID3 and the downstream marker RID4. The delimited region contained two annotated genes, Ra and bhlh16 (TIGR Rice Genome, R.5). The former is a homologue of the Myc transcription factor Lc controlling anthocyanin biosynthesis in maize, and the latter is a homologue of the TT8 gene, which is also an Myc transcription factor gene controlling the pericarp pigmentation in Arabidopsis thaliana. Sequence analysis showed that the exon 7 of the Ra gene of Yunanheixiannuo and Chuanheinuo had a 2-bp (GT) deletion compared with those of the white rice varieties Pei’ai 64S, 9311 and Nipponbare. A CAPS marker, CAPSRa, was developed according to the GT deletion for analysis of the two F2 segregating populations and 106 rice lines. The results showed that all F2 plants with white pericarp, and all non-purple rice lines (63 white and 22 red) contained no GT deletion, but all 20 purple rice lines contained the GT deletion. These results suggested that the Ra gene may be the Pb gene and the purple pericarp characteristic of rice is caused by the GT deletion within exon 7 of the Ra gene.
Causal efficacy and the normative notion of sustainability science

Abstract: Sustainability science requires both a descriptive understanding and a normative approach. Modern science, however, began as purely descriptive knowledge, the core of which is that matter is dynamically inert and without purpose. The British philosopher David Hume concluded that the only type of causation in the material world is “efficient causation,” which supported this purposeless view of a deterministic world “governed” by the causal laws of dynamics. But Hume did not argue against the existence of efficacious causation, only the error of humans projecting the mind’s efficacy to objects. Though dynamically inert, a material object away from equilibrium can be thermodynamically reactive, suggesting the possibility of the object being efficaciously managed for a purpose. Furthermore, quantum physics has replaced classical physics as the fundamental theory of the material world. Its basic equation, the Schr dinger wave-equation, is deterministic but causally inert—it cannot govern, leaving the determinism door unlocked. This causal gap, according to the von Neumann-Stapp quantum measurement/activation theory, necessitates the pragmatic existence in an irreversible universe of the causal efficacy of mental effort and information management. The resulting “bigger” empirical science has room for “descriptive determinism” and “normative action,” both of which are utterly essential in formulating sustainability science as an integral discipline.

Numerical Simulation of Flow Field in the New Reactor with Two-Phase Fluid

Abstract: On the basic of the PIV flows field measurement, mature commercial software to fit and test heat plate reactor momentum transfer mathematical model are used and the flow field in various operation conditions of heat plate reactor is simulated. The transfer process of two-phases flow is complicated, the ideal even bubbles model is used to simulate, analyze and calculate, the deviation values of temperature profile of two-phases flow and flow profile of H2O-Air are minor, but they are high than that of homogeneous phase flow. We use the mature business software (CFX) of CFD not only to fit, prove the momentum and heat transfer model in reactor with the experiment data of flow profile and temperature profile, but also to simulate the whole flow profile and temperature profile of two-phase fluids, their deviation values between the calculated values and experiment value are lower than the values simulated by traditional empirical formula, these will provide analysis of the transfer process in reactor with reliable mechanism model and computing method.
Inspiration to basic researches of traditional Chinese medicine from the 2001 Nobel Prize

Abstract: The contributions of the three winners (L Hartwell, RT Hunt and PM Nurse) of the 2001 Nobel Prize for physiology or medicine revealed the mystical veil of cell cycle control. It was of far-reaching significance for exploring new method for cancer treatment. It will also give a good deal of enlightenment to the basic research of traditional Chinese medicine. Their understanding about the cause and development of cancers changed from the static view to dynamic dialectical analysis, from simplex study to comprehensive analysis; they stressed regulation, instead of killing in the treatment of cancer; and they thought that the numerous factors driving the normal process of the cell cycle could be summarized as positive and negative factors. These opinions were similar to some theories of traditional Chinese medicine, such as treatment based on syndrome differentiation, integrative treatment, and keeping the balance between yin and yang, and established a connection between traditional Chinese medicine and the western medicine, which would further widen the research on compound prescriptions of Chinese herbs.
