Technological Progress, Spatial Competition and Industrial Location: Estimation and Predictions of Cement Industry in Northwest China  [PDF]

Abstract: This study estimates a theoretical multi-region industrial location model by adopting real statistics to investigate the intuition of shaping spatial pattern of economic activities in a case of cement industry in Northwest China. Based on the estimation of key parameters, we simulate the impact of technological progress on variation of location. We find that, given trade cost, with technological progress, operating cost decreases, it is profitable for firms to expand sale range. In long term, technological progress would induce server spatial competition and promote further spatial concentration of industry. Original areas with larger market and fine industrial base are still main agglomerations, while original peripheral areas are further to a downward trend, and parts of original areas located next to hot pot areas have become peripheries. Our study on influence of technological progress on industrial location confirms the importance of investigation on intuition of spatial pattern of economic activities. Technological progress is essentially achievement of sustainable development. However, neglecting substantial spatial competition induced by technology improvement turns against spatial allocation of resources. Hence, optimal location of industries is one of important factors to ensure sustainable development.

Abstract: There are hundreds of records in the curriculum of our Language Learning Lab every semester and every record has several important properties. It takes too much time to manage the information in the traditional way and it always makes mistakes. Managing the information with database technology, designing program to access the database with Visual c tool, setting a combobox in the application UI and inquiring curriculum information by selecting the room name in the combobox. It is easy to operate the program for the staff members. The result is accurate, this way promotes the efficiency of managing information.
A Study on Parallel Computation Based on 3D Forward Algorithm of Gravity  [PDF]

Abstract: Interpretation of geophysical material is the prospecting method. Interpretation of Gravity-megnetic data is based on data processing and inversion. When the grid is divided into several million cells, the computing task is heavy and time-consuming. In order to increase efficiency of the 3D forward modeling, the paper will adopt MPI parallel algorithm and the several processes will deal with data in the method. Finally, we can gather the result. Through comparing the result of sequence algorithm with the result of MPI parallel algorithm, we can see the result is the same. When the number of processes is 2 to 8, the speed-up ratio is 1.97 to 5. The MPI parallel algorithm is very efficient.
Mood States Recognition of Rowing Athletes Based on Multi-Physiological Signals Using PSO-SVM  [PDF]

Athletes have various emotions before competition, and mood states have impact on the competi- tion results. Recognition of athletes’ mood states could help athletes to have better adjustment before competition, which is significant to competition achievements. In this paper, physiological signals of female rowing athletes in pre- and post-competition were collected. Based on the multi-physiological signals related to pre- and post-competition, such as heart rate and respiration rate, features were extracted which had been subtracted the emotion baseline. Then the particle swarm optimization (PSO) was adopted to optimize the feature selection from the feature set, and combined with the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) classifier. Positive mood states and negative mood states were classified by the LS-SVM with PSO feature optimization. The results showed that the classification accuracy by the LS-SVM algorithm combined with PSO and baseline subtraction was better than the condition without baseline subtraction. The combination can contribute to good classification of mood states of rowing athletes, and would be informative to psychological adjustment of athletes.

Numerical Calculation of Seawater Temperature Sensing Based on Polydimethylsiloxane-Coated Microfiber Knot Resonator  [PDF]

A seawater temperature sensing method based on polydimethylsiloxane-coated (PDMS-coated) microfiber knot resonator (MKR) is proposed, which has the advantages of high sensitivity and weak salinity dependence. The dependences of the temperature sensitivity on fiber diameter, coating thickness and probing wavelength are theoretically investigated and the range of coating thickness for weak salinity dependence is obtained. By optimizing the parameters of the seawater temperature sensing system, when the probing wavelength is 1550 nm, the fiber diameter is 1 μm, and the coating thickness is 5 μm, the sensitivity can reach to 0.197 nm/°C. Results shown here are beneficial to find the optimal parameters for the temperature sensors with high sensitivity and weak salinity dependence.

Metallic phases of Dong Ujimqin mesosiderite: A field emission scanning electron microscope study

Abstract: The microstructure of Fe-Ni metallic phases in Dong Ujimqin mesosiderite was studied using the field emission SEM. Taenite is characterized by a zoned structure, consisting of outer clear taenite and inner cloudy zone (CZ). CZ has a typical “island-honeycomb” microstructure. The average size of the island phase is about 358 nm, suggesting a cooling rate of ~ 0.5°C/Ma at low temperature (< 400°C). The Ni concentration profiles across kamacite and zoned taenite were also measured by electron probe microscope analysis (EPMA). Formation of the Fe-Ni metallic phases, microstructure in Dong Ujimqin mesosiderite was discussed based on the new low-temperature Fe-Ni phase diagram.

Jitter Self-Compton Process: GeV Emission of GRB 100728A

Abstract: Jitter radiation, the emission of relativistic electrons in a random and small-scale magnetic field, has been applied to explain the gamma-ray burst (GRB) prompt emission. The seed photons produced from jitter radiation can be scattered by thermal/nonthermal electrons to the high-energy bands. This mechanism is called jitter self-Compton (JSC) radiation. GRB 100728A, which was simultaneously observed by the Swift and Fermi, is a great example to constrain the physical processes of jitter and JSC. In our work, we utilize jitter/JSC radiation to reproduce the multiwavelength spectrum of GRB 100728A. In particular, due to JSC radiation, the powerful emission above the GeV band is the result of those jitter photons in X-ray band scattered by the relativistic electrons with a mixed thermal-nonthermal energy distribution. We also combine the geometric effect of microemitters to the radiation mechanism, such that the "jet-in-jet" scenario is considered. The observed GRB duration is the result of summing up all of the contributions from those microemitters in the bulk jet.
