Abstract: The release of drug substance from controlled-release dosage forms is often pH-dependent since most drugs are either weak acids or weak bases. A system that permits the drug release to be changed freely while maintaining pH-independent drug release (model drug was Domperidone) was developed. Powder mixture of drug and HPMC K4M, eudragit L100, sodium bicarbonate (as gas-generating agent) and other excipients were mixed and directly compressed using single-punch tablet compression machine. It was found that sodium bicarbonate reacts with HCl and produce carbon dioxide which creates pores in tablet and elevates swelling by wetting the polymer. So it helps in maintaining the buoyancy. The release rate could be modified by varying the polymer ratio. The prepared tablets were evaluated for general appearance, content uniformity, hardness, friability, buoyancy, in vitro drug release and in vivo studies. The best formulation (D 1 ) was selected based on in vitro characteristics and was used in vivo radiographic studies by incorporating BaSO 4 . These studies revealed that the tablets remained in the stomach for 250±30 min in fasted rabbits and indicated that gastric retention time was increased by the floating principle, which was considered desirable for the absorption window drugs. The linear regression analysis and model fitting showed that all these formulations followed Higuchi model, which had a higher value of correlation coefficient (r). The scanning electron microscopy images of the tablet (D 1 formulation) were taken before and after dissolution and images showed that the drug was released from matrix by diffusion mechanism. Stability studies of all formulations were carried out at elevated temperature and humidity conditions of 40±2 o C/75±5% RH and a control sample was placed at an ambient condition for 12 months. It was found that there was no significant change in buoyancy property as well as in drug content from initial drug content of all the formulations at the end of 12 months, indicating that the formulations are stable.

Abstract: Adiabatic collapse solutions of uniform density sphere have been discussed by so many authors. An analysis of these solutions has been done by considering the baryonic conservation law and the no heat transfer condition. We have examined whether the pressure can remain finite or not during the collapse.
SEQUEL: A Public-domain Simulation Platform for Electronics and Power Electronics

IETE Technical Review , 2009,
Abstract: SEQUEL (a Solver of circuit EQuations with User-defined ELements) is a public-domain simulation package that has been used for a variety of applications. A graphics interface has recently been added to SEQUEL, in order to make it more user-friendly and better suitable for teaching purposes. The package can be downloaded freely. In this paper, some of the features of SEQUEL are described, along with examples.
Video indirect ophthalmoscopy using a hand-held video camera

Indian Journal of Ophthalmology , 2011,
Abstract: Fundus photography in adults and cooperative children is possible with a fundus camera or by using a slit lamp-mounted digital camera. Retcam TM or a video indirect ophthalmoscope is necessary for fundus imaging in infants and young children under anesthesia. Herein, a technique of converting and using a digital video camera into a video indirect ophthalmoscope for fundus imaging is described. This device will allow anyone with a hand-held video camera to obtain fundus images. Limitations of this technique involve a learning curve and inability to perform scleral depression.

Trans-esophageal echocardiography for tricuspid and pulmonary valves

Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia , 2009,
Abstract: Transesophageal echocardiography has been shown to provide unique information about cardiac anatomy, function, hemodynamics and blood flow and is relatively easy to perform with a low risk of complications. Echocardiographic evaluation of the tricuspid and pulmonary valves can be achieved with two-dimensional and Doppler imaging. Transesophageal echocardiography of these valves is more challenging because of their complex structure and their relative distance from the esophagus. Two-dimensional echocardiography allows an accurate visualization of the cardiac chambers and valves and their motion during the cardiac cycle. Doppler echocardiography is the most commonly used diagnostic technique for detecting and evaluating valvular regurgitation. The lack of good quality evidence makes it difficult to recommend a validated quantitative approach but expert consensus recommends a clinically useful qualitative approach. This review ennumerates probe placement, recommended cross-sectional views, flow patterns, quantitative equations including the clinical approach to the noninvasive quantification of both stenotic and regurgitant lesions.
