Abstract: Numerical simulation technique of surface nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) responses from stratified groundwater formation with finite conductivity is concerned with two problems. One is the integration of Hankel transform of a rapidly oscillating kernel function, and another is the volume integration of surface NMR signal induced in a receiver loop from the protons in buried aquifer. In this paper, a direct numerical integration method is applied to the oscillating kernel function integration to obtain radial and vertical components of magnetic fields from a large loop source, and the spatial characteristics of the fields are described. Due to the distribution of magnetic fields, an ununiform space interval subdivision method has been developed to estimate surface NMR response in the receiver loop in order to save computing time. The surface NMR responses from different models have been evaluated, and influences of model conductivity, aquifer depth and its thickness, and loop size have been discussed. Numerical results show that the combination of direct numerical integration and ununiform space interval subdivision is feasible to get surface NMR signal. And the conductivity of formation is the key to generate the phase of surface NMR signal, but other factors, such as groundwater depth and its thickness, loop size, can make the amplitude and phase of surface NMR response greatly different.

Abstract: We present new quasars discovered in the vicinity of the Andromeda and Triangulum galaxies with the LAMOST during the 2010 and 2011 observational seasons. Quasar candidates are selected based on the available SDSS, KPNO 4 m telescope, XSTPS optical, and WISE near infrared photometric data. We present 509 new quasars discovered in a stripe of ~135 sq. deg from M31 to M33 along the Giant Stellar Stream in the 2011 pilot survey datasets, and also 17 new quasars discovered in an area of ~100 sq. deg that covers the central region and the southeastern halo of M31 in the 2010 commissioning datasets. These 526 new quasars have i magnitudes ranging from 15.5 to 20.0, redshifts from 0.1 to 3.2. They represent a significant increase of the number of identified quasars in the vicinity of M31 and M33. There are now 26, 62 and 139 known quasars in this region of the sky with i magnitudes brighter than 17.0, 17.5 and 18.0 respectively, of which 5, 20 and 75 are newly-discovered. These bright quasars provide an invaluable collection with which to probe the kinematics and chemistry of the ISM/IGM in the Local Group of galaxies. A total of 93 quasars are now known with locations within 2.5 deg of M31, of which 73 are newly discovered. Tens of quasars are now known to be located behind the Giant Stellar Stream, and hundreds behind the extended halo and its associated substructures of M31. The much enlarged sample of known quasars in the vicinity of M31 and M33 can potentially be utilized to construct a perfect astrometric reference frame to measure the minute PMs of M31 and M33, along with the PMs of substructures associated with the Local Group of galaxies. Those PMs are some of the most fundamental properties of the Local Group.
Nonlinear inversion of surface nuclear magnetic resonance over electrically conductive medium

Abstract: Electrical conductivity impacts the inversion of the data of surface nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) sounding method. When the effect of electrical conductivity cannot be ignored, the square of the induced voltage of surface NMR can be expressed as a quadratic form involving water content as variables. Further analysis shows that the derivative of the square of the surface NMR voltage with respect to water content is of closed form. This makes nonlinear inversion of surface NMR data possible, and can speed up the inversion significantly. Numerical results show that the water content distribution resulted from nonlinear inversion agrees very well with the true model of both free space and electrically conductive medium.

Abstract: The non-toxic B subunit of Escherichia coli heat-labile enterotoxin (LTB) is a potent mucosal immunogen and immunoadjuvant for coadministered antigens. To obtain transformed silkworm cell line stably expressing LTB, researchers fused the LTB coding sequence, neomycin-resistance gene (NeoR) and gfp gene into piggyBac-based transponson vector and transduced into silkworm BmN cells. After screening against antibiotic G418, the positive rate of cells emitting green fluorescence was 70.79%. PCR detection indicates the existence of exogenous LTB coding sequence, NeoR and gfp in the transformed cell genome. Western blot analysis also confirms the predicated ~60 kDa band of LTB protein. These results demonstrated that the strategy was practicable.

Abstract: The gas gain and energy resolution of single and double THGEM detectors (5{\times}5cm2 effective area) with mini-rims (rim is less than 10{\mu}m) were studied. The maximum gain can reach 5{\times}103 and 2{\times}105 for single and double THGEM respectively, while the energy resolution of 5.9 keV X-ray varied from 18% to 28% for both single and double THGEM detectors of different hole sizes and thicknesses.All the experiments were investigated in mixture of noble gases(argon,neon) and small content of other gases(iso-butane,methane) at atmospheric pressure.

Abstract: In the title compound, C6H10N6O4, the nitroamine –NHNO2 substituent and the C–N=N(→ O) unit of the other substituent of the oxadiazole ring are nearly coplanar with the five-membered ring [dihedral angles = 5.7 (1) and 3.0 (1)°]. The amino group of the –NHNO2 substituent is a hydrogen-bond donor to the two-coordinate N atom of the C—N=N(→ O) unit.

Abstract: Background Hemoglobinopathies are the most common inherited diseases in southern China. However, there have been only a few epidemiological studies of hemoglobinopathies in Guangdong province. Materials and Methods Peripheral blood samples were collected from 15299 “healthy” unrelated subjects of dominantly ethnic Hakka in the Meizhou region, on which hemoglobin electrophoresis and routine blood tests were performed. Suspected cases with hemoglobin variants and hereditary persistence of fetal hemoglobin (HPFH) were further characterized by PCR, DNA sequencing, reverse dot blot (RDB) or multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA). In addition, 1743 samples were randomly selected from the 15299 subjects for thalassemia screening, and suspected thalassemia carriers were identified by PCR and RDB. Results The gene frequency of hemoglobin variants was 0.477% (73/15299). The five main subgroups of the ten hemoglobin variants were Hb E, Hb G-Chinese, Hb Q-Tahiland, Hb New York and Hb J-Bangkok. 277 cases (15.89%, 277/1743) of suspected thalassemia carriers with microcytosis (MCV<82 fl) were found by thalassemia screening, and were tested by a RDB gene chip to reveal a total of 196 mutant chromosomes: including 124 α-thalassemia mutant chromosomes and 72 β-thalassemia mutant chromosomes. These results give a heterozygote frequency of 11.24% for common α and β thalassemia in the Hakka population in the Meizhou region. 3 cases of HPFH/δβ-thalassemia were found, including 2 cases of Vietnamese HPFH (FPFH-7) and a rare Belgian Gγ(Aγδβ)0–thalassemia identified in Chinese. Conclusions Our results provide a detailed prevalence and molecular characterization of hemoglobinopathies in Hakka people of the Meizhou region. The estimated numbers of pregnancies each year in the Meizhou region, in which the fetus would be at risk for β thalassemia major or intermedia, Bart’s hydrops fetalis, and Hb H disease, are 25 (95% CI, 15 to 38), 40 (95% CI, 26 to 57), and 15 (95% CI, 8 to 23), respectively.

Inhibitory Effect of Nano-HA Particles on Human U87 Glioblastoma Cells Viability

Abstract: To evaluate the effects of Hydroxyapatite nano-particles (nano-HA) with different morphologies on human U87 glioblastoma cell line (U87), three kinds of nano-HA were designed and synthesized, and a co-culture system containing nano-HA and U87 cells was established. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) was also added to the HA medium system for the samples stabilization. After determining the stabilization and high dispersed nanometer size of nano-HA in the medium system using Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS), the effects of nano-HA on GBM cells were assessed with an MTT method. Results showed that nano-HA could effectively inhibit U87 cells proliferation. Compared with other nano-HA, the needle-like nano-HA were more powerful in inhibiting U87 cells proliferation. Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) induced by different nano-HA may be one reason for their different bioactivity, however, the correlation between nano-HA and TLR4 expression needs further investigation.
κ-Opioid Receptor Stimulation Improves Endothelial Function in Hypoxic Pulmonary Hypertension

Abstract: The present study was designed to investigate the effect of κ-opioid receptor stimulation with U50,488H on endothelial function and underlying mechanism in rats with hypoxic pulmonary hypertension (HPH). Chronic hypoxia-induced HPH was simulated by exposing the rats to 10% oxygen for 2 wk. After hypoxia, mean pulmonary arterial pressure (mPAP), right ventricular pressure (RVP) and right ventricular hypertrophy index (RVHI) were measured. Relaxation of pulmonary artery in response to acetylcholine (ACh) was determined. Expression and activity of endothelial nitric oxide (NO) synthase (eNOS) and inducible NO synthase (iNOS) with NO production, total antioxidant capacity (T-AOC), gp91phox expression and nitrotyrosine content were measured. The effect of U50,488H administration during chronic hypoxia was investigated. Administration of U50,488H significantly decreased mPAP and right ventricular hypertrophy as evidenced by reduction in RVP and RVHI. These effects were mediated by κ-opioid receptor. In the meantime, treatment with U50,488H significantly improved endothelial function as evidenced by enhanced relaxation in response to ACh. Moreover, U50,488H resulted in a significant increase in eNOS phosphorylation, NO content in serum, and T-AOC in pulmonary artery of HPH rats. In addition, the activity of eNOS was enhanced, but the activity of iNOS was attenuated in the pulmonary artery of chronic hypoxic rats treated with U50,488H. On the other hand, U50,488H markedly blunted HPH-induced elevation of gp91phox expression and nitrotyrosine content in pulmonary artery, and these effects were blocked by nor-BNI, a selective κ-opioid receptor antagonist. These data suggest that κ-opioid receptor stimulation with U50,488H improves endothelial function in rats with HPH. The mechanism of action might be attributed to the preservation of eNOS activity, enhancement of eNOS phosphorylation, downregulation of iNOS activity and its antioxidative/nitrative effect.
