Quantum Conductance of the Single Electron Transistor

Abstract: The quantum conductance of the single-electron tunneling (SET) transistor is investigated in this paper by the functional integral approach. The formalism is valid for arbitrary tunnel resistance of the junctions forming the SET transistor at any temperature. The path integrals are evaluated by the semiclassical method to yield an explicit non-perturbation form of the quantum conductance of the SET transistor. An anomaly of the quantum conductance is found if the tunnel resistances are much smaller than the quantum resistance. The dependence of the conductance on the gate voltage is also discussed.

Abstract: In this paper, the following type Tikhonov regularization problem will be systematically studied: [(u_t,v_t):=\argmin_{u+v=f} {|v|_X+t|u|_Y},] where $Y$ is a smooth space such as a $\BV$ space or a Sobolev space and $X$ is the pace in which we measure distortion. Examples of the above problem occur in denoising in image processing, in numerically treating inverse problems, and in the sparse recovery problem of compressed sensing. It is also at the heart of interpolation of linear operators by the real method of interpolation. We shall characterize of the minimizing pair $(u_t,v_t)$ for $(X,Y)=(L_2(\Omega),\BV(\Omega))$ as a primary example and generalize Yves Meyer's result in [11] and Antonin Chambolle's result in [6]. After that, the following multiscale decomposition scheme will be studied: [u_{k+1}:=\argmin_{u\in \BV(\Omega)\cap L_2(\Omega)} {1/2|f-u|^2_{L_2}+t_{k}|u-u_k|_{\BV}},] where $u_0=0$ and $\Omega$ is a bounded Lipschitz domain in $\R^d$. This method was introduced by Eitan Tadmor et al. and we will improve the $L_2$ convergence result in \cite{Tadmor}. Other pairs such as $(X,Y)=(L_p,W^{1}(L_\tau))$ and $(X,Y)=(\ell_2,\ell_p)$ will also be mentioned. In the end, the numerical implementation for $(X,Y)=(L_2(\Omega),\BV(\Omega))$ and the corresponding convergence results will be given.
On Energy-Efficient Node Deployment in Wireless Sensor Networks  [PDF]

Abstract: In wireless sensor networks, sensor nodes collect local data and transfer to the base station often relayed by other nodes. If deploying sensor nodes evenly, sensor nodes nearer to the base station will consume more energy and use up their energy faster that reduces system lifetime. By analyzing energy consumption, a density formula of deploying nodes is proposed. The ratio of whole energy of sensor nodes to energy consumption speed of sensor nodes in every area can get consistent if deploying nodes by the density formula, therefore system lifetime is prolonged. Analysis and simulation results show that when communication dominates whole energy consumption and the monitored region is big compared with radio range of sensor node, system lifetime under this scheme can be 3R/(2t) times of that under deploying nodes evenly, where R is radius of the monitored region and t is radio range of sensor node.
Analytic I–V Model for Single-Electron Transistors

Abstract: We present an analytical model for the I–V characteristics of a single-electron transistor, which may be incorporated in a conventional circuit simulator, such as SPICE. Our model takes as its input the physical SET characteristics (capacitances and tunnel resistances, which may be determined experimentally), and it yields I–V curves which are in excellent agreement with the ones obtained from full-scale Monte Carlo simulations.

Coulomb Charging at Large Conduction

Abstract: We discuss the suppression of Coulomb charging effects on a small metallic island coupled to an electrode by a tunnel junction. At high temperatures the quantum corrections to the classical charging energy $E_c=e^2/2C$, where $C$ is the island capacitance, are evaluated. At low temperatures the large quantum fluctuations of the island charge cause a strong reduction of the effective $E_c$ which is determined explicitly in the limit of a large tunneling conductance.

Abstract: The effects of cavity dimensions on the resonance frequency and resonance strength of the TE01δmode in split postdielectric resonator (SPDR) technique are investigated by using full-wave simulations. The results of simulations provide guidance for adjusting the dimensional parameters of the set-up to ensure that a strong TE01δ resonance mode is excited. The scaled designs of SPDR fixtures for operation at frequencies that are most important for applications are presented. These designs employ two sets of dielectric resonators (DRs) that can be fabricated from the standard ceramic materials. In addition, it is demonstrated that the resonance frequency of the TE01δ mode in the fixture can be tuned by adjusting the gap of the split DR.
High Secretion of Beta-HCG by Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Lung in a Postmenopausal Female  [PDF]

Abstract: With the development of research in tumor, some of them have been found to secrete beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-HCG) ectopically and lung cancer is one of them. Generally, lung cancer secreting β-HCG is mostly undifferentiated small cell carcinoma. Here, we report a rare case of squamous cell lung cancer secreting high level of β-HCG in a postmenopausal female. The tumor secreted β-HCG, measuring 16,500 mIU/ml. The patient presented with hemoptysis and postmenopausal bleeding. Pathological examination of CT-guided biopsy and investigations could not tell whether it was primary squamous cell lung cancer or choriocarcinoma with lung metastasis, to be responsible for the high level of β-HCG. The chemotherapy in the early stage seemed to be effective, but not good in the late stage. Then she underwent a right pulmonary middle lobectomy and the pathological examination finally confirmed the diagnosis of poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma. The auxiliary chemotherapy made a decreased β-HCG. Only a few reports of squamous cell lung cancer secreting that high level of β-HCG can be found in the literature.
User Grouping and Scheduling for Joint Spatial Division and Multiplexing in FDD Massive MIMO System  [PDF]

Massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) is a key technology for the 5th Generation wireless communication systems. Joint spatial division and multiplexing (JSDM) method can reduce the cost of downlink training and feedback for CSIT of frequency-division duplexing (FDD) system. In this paper, we studied user grouping and user scheduling problems based on JSDM, and proposed an improved greedy user scheduling algorithm with lower complexity. Numerical results show that the user grouping and scheduling based on the proposed improved algorithm have much lower computational complexity while resulting in only a slight loss in system performance.

Abstract: Lignocellulose-based self-assembled micelles have emerged as a new generation of value-added functional nanostructures that show promise to address issues concerning the depletion of non-renewable resources; also these materials may contribute to the growing enthusiasm of utilizing biomass resources. Lignocellulose micelles can be conveniently prepared by self-assembly of amphiphilic lignocellulose derivatives in aqueous solution. They show great potential for applications in disparate fields, e.g. drug delivery, bioimaging diagnosis, sensing, nanoreacting, and so on. However, as a new research topic, a lot of research work would be needed to find out the critical structural factors that correlate with the formation, stability, morphology, and flexibility of lignocellulose micelles.
