Research Advances in Immunomodulation and Antitumor Activity of Polysaccharides

Abstract: Enhancing immunity and antiturnor activity is the important biological activity of polysaccharide. Studies showed that it enhanced immunity through improving the activity of immtmocyte, activising the secretion of cell factor, inducing the production of antibody and activising the complementary system, etc. The antitumor ways of polysaccharide mainly were inhibiting the growth of cancer cells and the synthesis of protein and nuclear acid in the cells, inducing apoptosis, affecting the expression of cancer gene and changing the growing specialities of the cancer cell membrane. In this review, research advances in the field of immunomodulation and antitumor activity ofpolysaccharides in recent years were briefly summarized and analysed.
Excitonic optical absorption in semiconductors under intense terahertz radiation

Abstract: The excitonic optical absorption of GaAs bulk semiconductors under intense terahertz (THz) radiation is investigated numerically. The method of solving initial-value problems, combined with the perfect matched layer technique, is used to calculate the optical susceptibility. In the presence of a driving THz field, in addition to the usual exciton peaks, 2p replica of the dark 2p exciton and even-THz-photon-sidebands of the main exciton resonance emerge in the continuum above the band edge and below the main exciton resonance. Moreover, to understand the shift of the position of the main exciton peak under intense THz radiation, it is necessary to take into consideration both the dynamical Franz--Keldysh effect and ac Stark effect simultaneously. For moderate frequency fields, the main exciton peak decreases and broadens due to the field-induced ionization of the excitons with THz field increasing. However, for high frequency THz fields, the characteristics of the exciton recur even under very strong THz fields, which accords with the recent experimental results qualitatively.

Abstract: 提出了在飞秒锁模钛宝石激光器腔内产生太赫兹辐射的新设计方案,并给出了太赫兹产生器件的结构参数以及器件的设计原理.新设计的器件把光电导太赫兹偶极天线发射器与飞秒钛宝石激光器的可饱和Bragg 反射镜结合在一起,不仅可以提高太赫兹辐射的产生效率,而且可以使飞秒钛宝石激光器自启动锁模.

Abstract: The far field temporal characteristics of terahertz radiation caused by biased large-aperture photoconductive antennas with finite thickness was analyzed using current surge model which not only include effects of finite lifetime and transient mobility,but also effects of optical time lag and absortion attenuation in photoconductor material.The dependence of the waveforms of the radiated field on optical fluence, carrier relaxation time,carrier lifetime and material thickness are discussed in detail.The contrast is made between terahertz temporal profiles including antennas thickness and excluding thickness.

Abstract: High-power narrow-band terahertz (THz) radiations emitted from a biased large-aperture photoconductive antenna triggered by multiple-pulse trains is studied.The effects of the finite lifetime and transient mobility dynamics of photogenerated carriers in the analysis are included.THz waveforms are calculated from the saturation theory of large-aperture photoconductive antennas,and comparisons are made between single-pulse and multiple-pulse satruation proterties of THz emission from SI-GaAs and LT-GaAs emitters.The results show that the saturation at high fluence density with the interpulse spacing longer than the carrier lifetime can be avoided by mulitiple-pulse trains excitation large-aperture photoconductive emitters.

Abstract: A kind of ultra-narrow dual-channel filter is proposed in principle and demonstrated experimentally. This filter is designed by means of two sampled fibre Bragg gratings (SFBGs), where one is periodic O-π sampling and the other is symmetrical spatial sampling. The former can create two stopbands in the transmission spectra and the latter can produce two ultra-narrow passbands. Our filter has the 3-dB bandwidth of about 1 pm, whose value is two orders of magnitude less than the bandwidth of the traditional SFBG filters. The proposed filter has a merit that the channel spacing remains unchanged when tuning the filter.

Abstract: The paper introduced a system framework of 3D nerve visualization and made research of the techniques for the 3D nerves visualization based on serial tissue sections.According to the characters of the images and the specificity of the topographic anatomy of the nerves,the paper proposed a correspondence algorithm using the moment invariants with the consideration of space restriction relationship,obtained the center lines of the nerves with the topological structure,and based on the 3D structures brings up a algorithm to classify the complex nerve fascicles.Finally,experimental results show the using of the proposed algorithms.

Abstract: We have studied analytically the temporal characteristics of terahertz radiation emitted from a biased large-aperture photoconductive antenna triggered by an ultrashort optical pulse. We have included the effects of the finite lifetime and transient mobility dynamics of photogenerated carriers in the analysis. Succinct explicit expressions are obtained for the emitted radiation in the surface field and in the far field. The dependence of the waveforms of the radiated field on the fluence and duration of triggering optical pulse, carrier relaxation time and carrier lifetime are discussed in detail using the obtained expressions.
Effects of Lactobacillus plantarum on gut barrier function in experimental obstructive jaundice

Abstract: AIM: To investigate the mechanisms of Lactobacillus plantarum (L. plantarum) action on gut barrier in preoperative and postoperative experimental obstructive jaundice in rats. METHODS: Forty rats were randomly divided into groups of sham-operation, bile duct ligation (BDL), BDL + L. plantarum, BDL + internal biliary drainage (IBD), and BDL + IBD + L. plantarum. Ten days after L. plantarum administration, blood and ileal samples were collected from the rats for morphological examination, and intestinal barrier function, liver function, intestinal oxidative stress and protein kinase C (PKC) activity measurement. The distribution and expression of the PKC and tight junction (TJ) proteins, such as occludin, zonula occludens-1, claudin-1, claudin-4, junction adhesion molecule-A and F-actin, were examined by confocal laser scanning microscopy, immunohistochemistry, Western blotting, real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction assay. RESULTS: L. plantarum administration substantially restored gut barrier, decreased enterocyte apoptosis, improved intestinal oxidative stress, promoted the activity and expression of protein kinase (BDL vs BDL + L. plantarum, 0.295 ± 0.007 vs 0.349 ± 0.003, P < 0.05; BDL + IBD vs BDL + IBD + L. plantarum, 0.407 ± 0.046 vs 0.465 ± 0.135, P < 0.05), and particularly enhanced the expression and phosphorylation of TJ proteins in the experimental obstructive jaundice (BDL vs BDL + L. plantarum, 0.266 ± 0.118 vs 0.326 ± 0.009, P < 0.05). The protective effect of L. plantarum was more prominent after internal biliary drainage ( BDL + IBD vs BDL + IBD + L. plantarum, 0.415 ± 0.105 vs 0.494 ± 0.145, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: L. plantarum can decrease intestinal epithelial cell apoptosis, reduce oxidative stress, and prevent TJ disruption in biliary obstruction by activating the PKC pathway.
A full numerical calculation of the Franz--Keldysh effect on magnetoexcitons in a bulk semiconductor

Abstract: We have performed a full numerical calculation of the Franz--Keldysh (FK) effect on magnetoexcitons in a bulk GaAs semiconductor. By employing an initial value method in combination with the application of a perfect matched layer, the numerical effort and storage size are dramatically reduced due to a significant reduction in both computed domain and number of base functions. In the absence of an electric field, the higher magnetoexcitonic peaks show distinct Fano lineshape due to the degeneracy with continuum states of the lower Landau levels. The magnetoexcitons that belong to the zeroth Landau level remain in bound states and lead to Lorentzian lineshape, because they are not degenerated with continuum states. In the presence of an electric field, the FK effect on each magnetoexcitonic resonance can be identified for high magnetic fields. However, for low magnetic fields, the FK oscillations dominate the spectrum structure in the vicinity of the bandgap edge and the magnetoexcitonic resonances dominate the spectrum structure of higher energies. In the moderate electric fields, the interplay of FK effect and magnetoexcitonic resonance leads to a complex and rich structure in the absorption spectrum.
