Impact of Gender and Working Environment on the Level of State Anxiety among Primary and Middle school Teachers in China  [PDF]

Abstract: State anxiety has become serious among primary and middle school teachers in China. By using stratified random sampling, we selected 2790 primary and middle school teachers as participants. They were from seven regions of China, among them 2278 were valid subjects. Constructed on the basis of anxiety content, the Teachers’ State Anxiety Questionnaire (TSAQ) was used in the investigation. The result of the survey shows that primary and middle school teachers are generally affected by state anxiety; further analysis indicates that the prevalence of state anxiety is relatively higher among male teachers, teachers from key middle schools, teachers working more than 10 hours a day, and teachers loaded with additional task as head teachers. This is directly connected with China’s national situation, teaching envi-ronment, discrepancies in teachers themselves, and their own ability of self-regulation.

Abstract: Anxiety has become one of the major psychological problems which harass people in modern times; this problem is particularly obvious with primary and middle school teachers. Based on the contents of anxiety, the self-compiled Teachers’ State Anxiety Questionnaire (TSAQ) was used to investigate the effective of 1930 subjects in seven regions of China through stratified random sampling methodology. The results show that that the sense of anxiety for satisfaction and control is higher in male teachers; and the sense of teachers’ anxiety for satisfaction and conflict is severe in the key middle school; and the sense of conflict anxiety in the married teachers is the highest; the anxiety in all are high in teachers with poor physical health and main teacher as well as the teachers with poor economic situation in their family. The feasibility of measures to improve the teachers’ state anxiety in primary and middle school should be considered to enhance the level of teachers’ mental health, work efficiency and quality of life.
Teaching Perspectives of Pre-service Physical Education Teachers in Shanghai: A Pilot Study

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to examine the teaching perspective of pre-service Physical Education teachers in Shanghai, China. The Teaching Perspectives Inventory instrument (Pratt, 1998) was used to collect data from 158 pre-service teachers. Descriptive data showed that pre-service teachers exhibited a common pattern of at least one or perhaps two dominant teaching perspectives. They attached importance to student affective development, but paid less attention to the change of society and student thinking. A series of univariate analyses of variance revealed that the scores of the female teachers on Nurturing were significantly higher than those of the male teachers. Although study levels had no significant effect on teaching perspectives of pre-service teachers, a slight increase in the mean scores of Transmission and Social Reform perspectives was observed in first-year to fourth year pre-service teachers. Finally, a significant correlation among several perspectives was observed. Using the findings as bases, we provide implication for the improvement of teaching perspectives.

Abstract: Vegetable crops such as cucumber and tomato are grown widely through the world using not only field but also protected farmland. Sensitive responses of many vegetables have been widely reported to environmental conditions such as light, air temperature, relative humility, and CO2 concentration in the past years. Among these environmental factors, light is considered to be the most important one for vegetable growth and development, especially in protected farmland. Therefore, lots of researches on effects of light environment, including light intensity, light quality, photoperiod, and light direction, on vegetable growth and development have been done in order to optimize the environmental conditions for high-yield and high-quality vegetable production in protected farmland. In this review, recent advances in light environment control for vegetable production in protected farmland have been reviewed and the prospective for the future research has been proposed as well.
Mood States Recognition of Rowing Athletes Based on Multi-Physiological Signals Using PSO-SVM  [PDF]

Abstract:

Athletes have various emotions before competition, and mood states have impact on the competi- tion results. Recognition of athletes’ mood states could help athletes to have better adjustment before competition, which is significant to competition achievements. In this paper, physiological signals of female rowing athletes in pre- and post-competition were collected. Based on the multi-physiological signals related to pre- and post-competition, such as heart rate and respiration rate, features were extracted which had been subtracted the emotion baseline. Then the particle swarm optimization (PSO) was adopted to optimize the feature selection from the feature set, and combined with the least squares support vector machine (LS-SVM) classifier. Positive mood states and negative mood states were classified by the LS-SVM with PSO feature optimization. The results showed that the classification accuracy by the LS-SVM algorithm combined with PSO and baseline subtraction was better than the condition without baseline subtraction. The combination can contribute to good classification of mood states of rowing athletes, and would be informative to psychological adjustment of athletes.

Application of the Principle of Public Hearing in Media in China

Abstract: Fundamental significance of the principle of public hearing lies in the fact that it provides a platform for social supervision, which is more propitious to judicial fairness. As a supervision entity with authoritative social functions, modern media brings harmony and conflicts together in the process of application of jurisdiction in different fields of media, but they haven’t got integrated so far. This paper aims at application of public hearing in media context and elaborates respectively different aspects of facilitation and limitation. And finally, several thoughts are discussed in terms of integration between jurisdiction and media.
ELECTROLESS NICKEL PLATING ON CHITOSAN-MODIFIED WOOD VENEER

Abstract: An activation process involving chitosan was conducted to prepare electroless nickel plated wood veneers for electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding. In this process Pd(Ⅱ) ions were chemically adsorbed on wood surface modified with chitosan. Then they were reduced and dipped into a plating bath in which Ni-P co-deposition was successfully initiated. The coatings were characterized by SEM-EDS and XRD. The metal deposition, surface resistivity, and electromagnetic shielding effectiveness were measured. The morphology of the coating observed by SEM was uniform, compact, and continuous. EDS results showed that the coating consists of 1.8 wt.% phosphorus and 98.2 wt.% nickel. XRD analysis indicated that the coating was crystalline, which is supposed to be related to the low phosphorus content. The plated birch veneers exhibited electro-conductivity with surface resistivity of 0.24 Ω cm-2 and good electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of over 50 dB in frequency range from10 MHz to 1.5 GHz.
PREPARATION OF MICROWAVE ABSORBING NICKEL-BASED ACTIVATED CARBON BY ELECTROLESS PLATING WITH PALLADIUM-FREE ACTIVATION

Abstract: Nickel-based activated carbon was prepared from coconut shell activated carbon by electroless plating with palladium-free activation. The materials were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray energy dispersion spectroscopy (EDS), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM), and vector network analyzer, respectively. The results show that the surface of the activated carbon was covered by a Ni-P coating, which was uniform, compact, and continuous and had an obvious metallic sheen. The content of P and Ni was 2.73% and 97.27% in the coating. Compared with the untreated activated carbon, the real permeability μ′ and imaginary permeability μ″ of Ni-based activated carbon became greater, whereas the real permittivity ε′ and imaginary permittivity ε″ became smaller. Also, the plated activated carbon was magnetic, making it suitable for some special applications. In general, the method reported here might be a feasible procedure to coat activated carbon with other magnetic metals, which may find application in various areas.
