Abstract: Objective To examine the effects of exogenously administered intermedin (IMD, adrenomedullin-2) on arterial blood pressure, cardiac function and the cardiovascular IMD receptor system in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs) as well as to investigate the associated mechanisms. Methods Thirteen week-old male rats were divided in Wistar Kyoto (WKY) group (n = 12), SHR group (n = 12), IMD group (SHRs infused with IMD 1-47 500 ng/kg per hour, n = 12), and ADM group (SHRs infused with adrenomedullin 500 ng/kg per hour, n = 12). Results A two-week continuous administration of low dose IMD 1-47 via mini-osmotic pumps markedly reduced blood pressure, the maximal rates of increase and decrease of left-ventricle pressure development (LV ± dp/dtmax), left ventricular systolic pressure and heart rate in SHRs. Furthermore, IMD also inhibited protein over-expression of cardiovascular IMD receptors, myocardial Receptor Activity-Modifying Proteins (RAMP1 and RAMP2), aortic RAMP1, RAMP2, RAMP3, and calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CRLR); suppressed up-regulation of aortic RAMP1, RAMP2, RAMP3 and CRLR gene expression; and markedly elevated the mRNA abundance of myocardial atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) and myocardial brain natriuretic peptide (BNP). Additionally, IMD 1-47 administration in SHRs increased aortic cAMP concentration and reduced myocardial cAMP concentration. Conclusion These findings support the speculation that IMD, as a cardiovascular active peptide, is involved in blood pressure reduction and cardiac function amelioration during hypertension. The mechanism underlying this effect may involve IMD binding of a receptor complex formed by RAMPs and CRLR, and consequential regulation of cAMP levels and other cardiovascular active factors, such as ANP and BNP.

Journal of Cancer Therapy (JCT) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jct.2012.326114
Abstract: Colorectal cancer remains the third most common malignancy worldwide. According to the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), colorectal cancer is related to spleen-deficiency, damp-heat, and toxicity accumulation. Traditional Chinese medicine has been confirmed to effectively reduce toxic side effects and enhance curative effects of chemotherapy, palliate clinical syndrome, prevent recurrence and metastasis, improve quality of life and immune function, and prolong survival time in colorectal cancer. However, TCM theoretical and syndrome differentiation study has lagged far behind due to progression of therapy model in colorectal cancer. As a type of drug treatment, there are some common biological basis between chemotherapy, targeted therapy and anti-cancer herb therapy in colorectal cancer, such as apoptosis, cell senescence and autophagy. There are growing needs to explore the effect mechanism and compatibility of anti-cancer herbs, to further enhance the efficacy of TCM treatment in colorectal cancer.

BMC Public Health , 2008, DOI: 10.1186/1471-2458-8-246
Abstract: A cross-sectional questionnaire survey including the SF-36, the EQ-5D and demographic questions was conducted in 20 general practices in Germany. 1009 consecutive patients aged 15–89 participated. The SF-36 scale scores of general practice patients with differing chronic diseases were compared with those of patients without chronic conditions. Differences in the SF-36 scale/summary scores and proportions in the EQ-5D dimensions between patients and the general population were analyzed. Independent effects of chronic conditions and demographic variables on the HRQoL were analyzed using multivariable linear regression and polynomial regression models. The HRQoL for general practice patients with differing chronic diseases tended to show more physical than mental health impairments compared with the reference group of patients without. Patients in general practice in Germany had considerably lower SF-36 scores than the general population (P < 0.001 for all) and showed significantly higher proportions of problems in all EQ-5D dimensions except for the self-care dimension (P < 0.001 for all). The mean EQ VAS for general practice patients was lower than that for the general population (69.2 versus 77.4, P < 0.001). The HRQoL for general practice patients in Germany seemed to be more strongly affected by diseases like depression, back pain, OA of the knee, and cancer than by hypertension and diabetes.General practice patients with differing chronic diseases in Germany had impaired quality of life, especially in terms of physical health. The independent impacts on the HRQoL were different depending on the type of chronic disease. Findings from this study might help health professionals to concern more influential diseases in primary care from the patient's perspective.Primary care addresses the most common problems in the community by providing preventive, curative, and rehabilitative services to maximize health and well-being [1]. 微生物学通报 , 2007,
Abstract: Marine actinobacteria are novel sources for drug discovery and active natural products. Since the functional diversity of active metabolites from marine actinobacteria originates from the Bio-diversity of this important group of gram-positive bacteria, studies on the diversity of culturable marine actinobacteria are of great importance. In this review, the progress in the diversity studies of marine actinobacteria, especially the research in the marine sponge-associated actinomycetes, deep sea actinomycetes and the indigenous marine actinomycetes was reported. Meahwhile, the isolation techniques including the pre-treatment of samples and the selection of media were highlighted. The cultivation of as yet unculturable marine actinobacteria was discussed, and the importance of establishing regional centers for marine actinobacteria strain and gene resources was emphasized.

Abstract: Sequences from a region of the nuclear ribosomal 18S rDNA gene of approximately 1 912 base pairs (bp) were used to generate a molecular phylogeny for the Pentatomomorpha based on 53 species representing 21 putative families. Phylogenetic analyses using the most parsimony method (MP), maximum likelihood method (ML), and neighbor joining method (NJ) showed strong support that the Pentatomomorpha lineage is a monophyly and the superfamily Aradoidea is a sister group to the remainder of the Pentatomomorpha (Trichophora). The Trichophora could be divided into two clades: one clade consisted of the monophyletic superfamilies Pentatomoidea and Pyrrhocoroidea; the other was mainly the polyphyletic superfamilies Lygaeoidea, Coreoidea and Idiostoloidea. The superfamilies Lygaeoidea and Coreoidea were both polyphyletic. Within Lygaeoidea, Piesmatidae was sister to Berytidae. They formed a clade locating at the basal of the Trichophora and distantly related to the other two families Lygaeidae and Rhyparochromidae. This research suggested that 18S rDNA was a proper marker to reconstruct the phylogeny of Pentatomomorpha that was accordant to morphological studies and the research of Li et al (2005). The Pyrrhocoroidea was further divided from the Coreoidea (s.lat). It was suggested that the Piesmatidae might be assigned as a superfamily of Pentatomomorpha rather than a family in Lygaeoidea.
Pair production of charged Higgs bosons in the Left-Right Twin Higgs model at the ILC and LHC

Abstract: Left-Right twin Higgs(LRTH) model predicts the existence of a pair of charged Higgs $\phi^{\pm}$. In this paper, we study the production of the charged Higgs bosons pair $\phi^{\pm}$ via the process $e^{+}e^{-}\to \phi^{+}\phi^{-}$ at the International Linear Collider(ILC). The numerical results show that the production rates are at the level of several tens fb, this process can produce the adequate distinct multi-jet final states and the SM background can be efficiently reduced. We also discuss the charged Higgs boson pair production via the process $q\bar{q}\to \phi^{+}\phi^{-}$ at the $CERN$ Large Hadron Collider(LHC) and estimate there production rates. We find that, as long as the charged Higgs bosons are not too heavy, they can be abundantly produced at the LHC. The possible signatures of these new particles might be detected at the ILC and LHC experiments.
