Comparison of kinetic models for isothermal CO2 gasification of coal char-biomass char blended char

Abstract: This study investigated the isothermal gasification reactivity of biomass char (BC) and coal char (CC) blended at mass ratios of 1:3, 1:1, and 3:1 via isothermal thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) at 900, 950, and 1000°C under CO2. With an increase in BC blending ratio, there were an increase in gasification rate and a shortening of gasification time. This could be attributed to the high specific surface area of BC and the high uniformity of carbon structures in CC when compared to those in BC. Three representative gas-solid kinetic models, namely, the volumetric model (VM), grain model (GM), and random pore model (RPM), were applied to describe the reaction behavior of the char. Among them, the RPM model was considered the best model to describe the reactivity of the char gasification reaction. The activation energy of BC and CC isothermal gasification as determined using the RPM model was found to be 126.7 kJ/mol and 210.2 kJ/mol, respectively. The activation energy was minimum (123.1 kJ/mol) for the BC blending ratio of 75%. Synergistic effect manifested at all mass ratios of the blended char, which increased with the gasification temperature.
Supramolecular Luminescence from Oligofluorenol-Based Supramolecular Polymer Semiconductors

Abstract: Supramolecular luminescence stems from non-covalent exciton behaviors of active π-segments in supramolecular entities or aggregates via intermolecular forces. Herein, a π-conjugated oligofluorenol, containing self-complementary double hydrogen bonds, was synthesized using Suzuki coupling as a supramolecular semiconductor. Terfluorenol-based random supramolecular polymers were confirmed via concentration-dependent nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The photoluminescent spectra of the TFOH-1 solution exhibit a green emission band (g-band) at approximately ~520 nm with reversible features, as confirmed through titration experiments. Supramolecular luminescence of TFOH-1 thin films serves as robust evidence for the aggregates of g-band. Our results suggest that the presence of polyfluorene ketone defects is a sufficient condition, rather than a sufficient-necessary condition for the g-band. Supramolecular electroluminescence will push organic devices into the fields of supramolecular optoelectronics, spintronics, and mechatronics.

Herbs for calming liver and suppressing liver-yang in treatment of migraine with hyperactive liver-yang sydrome and its effects on lymphocyte protein expression: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Objective: To observe the efficacy of herbs for calming liver and suppressing liver-yang in treatment of migraine patients with hyperactivity of liver-yang syndrome and to investigate its effects on the lymphocyte protein expression. This approach may lay a foundation for the further investigation of pathogenic mechanisms in migraine with hyperactive liver-yang sydrome and the curative mechanisms of calming liver and suppressing liver-yang treatment.Methods: A total of 32 migraine patients with hyperactivity of liver-yang syndrome were randomly divided into treatment group (16 cases) and control group (16 cases). The patients in the treatment group were treated with herbs for calming liver and suppressing liver-yang in accordance with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) theory and the patients in the control group were treated with Flunarizine Capsules for two courses of treatment. The therapeutic effects, the score of TCM symptom and the changes of headache attack were observed in both groups before and after the treatment. The side effects were also observed in both groups. The level of differential protein expression was analyzed by two-dimensional electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF-MS).Results: The herbs for calming liver and suppressing liver-yang had better effects on headache improvement than the Flunarizine Capsules (P<0.01). The cure rates in the treatment and control groups were 87.5% and 75.0% respectively. Vertigo, restlessness and tantrum, and prosopo-heat in the treatment group were also improved as compared with those in the control group (P<0.05). After treatment, the score of TCM symptom in the two groups were all decreased (P<0.01), and there was a significant difference between the treatment group and the control group (P<0.01). The herbs for calming liver and suppressing liver-yang had no side effects. The average protein spots in the blood lymphocyte of normal people, migraine patients with hyperactivity of liver-yang syndrome in the treatment group before and after the treatment were (534±42), (552±54) and (529±55) spots respectively. Six down-regulated protein expressions and 14 up-regulated protein expressions were obtained in the treatment group. Four strengthened protein expressions in the six down-regulated proteins and 11 low protein expressions in the 14 up-regulated proteins were also obtained after treatment. Influence of scum of algal bloom on the release of N and P from sediments of Lake Taihu

Abstract: Sediment cores were sampled in macrophyte dominated zone, phytoplankton dominated zone and river mouth in Lake Taihu and incubated with one half of them added algae in laboratory in August to reveal the influence of algal accumulation on the release of nitrogen and phosphorus in sediments. Concentrations of dissolved oxygen (DO), total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), ammonium, phosphate and other parameters were determined during cultivation of the sediment cores in dark. There were differences in release of TN and TP in sediments and significant variations in changes of DO, ammonium, phosphate in overlying water after adding algae. When DO declined to nearly zero, the changes of release of TN, TP in sediments differed from different ecological types of Lake Taihu with minus numbers of -0.1, -3.01 mg x (m2 x d)(-1) in macrophyte dominated zone, larger numbers of 31.1, 0.75 mg x (m2 x d)(-1) in phytoplankton dominated zone and 9.5, 2.46 mg x (m2 x d)(-1) in river mouth. The concentrations of ammonium in overlying water increased 3.62, 5.10, 6.57 mg/L and phosphate increased 53, 219, 418 microg/L in macrophyte dominated zone, phytoplankton dominated zone, river mouth, respectively. The changes of nutrients have good correlations with the decrease of DO and duration. The release of nutrients from sediments caused by accumulation and decay of algae may be the way that algal bloom satisfied itself.
Heavy-metal contents in suspended solids of Meiliang Bay, Taihu Lake and its environmental significances

Abstract: Surface water was taken from river mouth to the central area of Meiliang Bay, Taihu Lake, a large shallow eutrophic lake in China. Suspended solids were condensed by centrifugation 25 L surface water samples from each selected site. Suspended solids and surface sediments were further freeze-dried and microwave digested before determining the metals by ICP-AES. Among the metals analyzed in suspended solids and sediments, contents of Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, and Zn in suspended solids were significantly higher than those in sediments while contents of Al, Ba, Be, Ca, Co, Fe, K, Mg, Pb, and V in suspended solids were 10%-30% higher than those in sediments. Sr and Ti contents in suspended solids and sediments were very similar. Na content in suspended solids was lower than that in sediments. Heavy metals were significantly accumulated in suspended solids. From the river mouth to the center of Meiliang Bay,contents of Cr, Cu, Pb, and Zn in suspended solids showed a gradual decreasing trend indicating the river(Zhihugang River) still discharged large quantity of heavy metalsto Meiliang Bay. The study suggests that the geochemical behaviors and ecological effects of heavy metals in suspended solids may serve as a good indicator for the pollution of lake.

Asteroseismic based estimation of the surface gravity for the LAMOST giant stars

Abstract: Asteroseismology is one of the most accurate approaches to estimate the surface gravity of a star. However, most of the data from the current spectroscopic surveys do not have asteroseismic measurements, which is very expensive and time consuming. In order to improve the spectroscopic surface gravity estimates for a large amount of survey data with the help of the small subset of the data with seismic measurements, we set up a support vector regression model for the estimation of the surface gravity supervised by 1,374 LAMOST giant stars with Kepler seismic surface gravity. The new approach can reduce the uncertainty of the estimates down to about 0.1 dex, which is better than the LAMOST pipeline by at least a factor of 2, for the spectra with signal-to-noise ratio higher than 20. Compared with the logg estimated from the LAMOST pipeline, the revised logg values provide a significantly improved match to the expected distribution of red clump and RGB stars from stellar isochrones. Moreover, even the red bump stars, which extend to only about 0.1 dex in logg, can be discriminated from the new estimated surface gravity. The method is then applied to about 350,000 LAMOST metal-rich giant stars to provide improved surface gravity estimates. In general, the uncertainty of the distance estimate based on the SVR surface gravity can be reduced to about 12% for the LAMOST data.

Abstract: 提出了一种新的基于图像的信息隐藏技术,可以在图像的每个位平面都实现信息的嵌入。该技术基于如下假定:即图像中的颜色分量值在某个较小的区域内变动时,人眼几乎察觉不到该图像的失真。由此,通过给各个位平面设定一个可变化区域,在这些区域中颜色分量值的轻微变化便可引起某个位平面在0与1之间发生转换,这样便可在这些区域中实现信息的藏匿。另外还从安全性及隐藏信息量方面对其进行了分析,并通过实验显示了在图像中嵌入信息后的的效果。
