Can RTK GPS be Used to Improve Cadastral Infrastructure?
Volker Janssen,Thomas Grinter,Craig Roberts
Engineering Journal , 2011, DOI: 10.4186/ej.2011.15.1.43
Abstract: Cadastral surveying is concerned with the process of gathering evidence in the form of position information that is used to define the location of objects or land boundaries for the purposes of identifying ownership and/or the value of land parcels. The advent of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS), such as the Global Positioning System (GPS), has revolutionised the way 3-dimensional positions are determined and GPS surveying techniques, particularly Real Time Kinematic (RTK), are increasingly being adopted by cadastral surveyors. This paper presents a methodology for using RTK GPS observations to improve the existing cadastral survey control infrastructure, based on an extensive survey carried out in New South Wales, Australia. It is shown that accuracies (RMS) of 11 mm in the horizontal and 34 mm in the vertical component (1?) can be achieved for this dataset. Calculated bearings and distances agree very well with the official values derived from the state’s survey control database, easily meeting accuracy specifications and survey regulation requirements. 55% of the unestablished marks surveyed were able to be upgraded to cadastral survey control quality. Enhancements in the GPS survey design would have enabled an even higher percentage of marks to be classified as established, showing that the RTK GPS technique is well suited to improving survey control infrastructure for cadastral surveyors.
The Development of a Data-Centred Conceptual Reference Model for Strategic GRC-Management  [PDF]
Volker Nissen, Wolfgang Marekfia
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2014.72007

Until now there are only few ideas for an integrated governance, risk and compliance (GRC) management available with these referring to the management process of GRC only. In literature, mainly specific questions at a detailed level, like the automation of different controls, are discussed in the GRC context. To be in the position to entirely realise benefit potentials (e.g. improvement of processes), it is necessary to have an integrated GRC-Management focusing on the strategic business objectives. Starting from the requirements, this article deals with general guidelines for strategic GRC-Management showing which aspects have to be considered in terms of an integral approach. On this basis, a data-centred reference model explicates the structural connections of GRC-related data, and lays the basis for the implementation in practice.

Portraying the Social Dimensions of Consulting with Structuration Theory  [PDF]
Christian Mauerer, Volker Nissen
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2014.72010

In this paper, we argue that the consultant-client relationship is of central importance for consulting engagements. The paper therefore outlines the social dimensions that are inherent in the consulting system due to its characteristics that create social complexity. To gain further insights into the social interaction scheme and dynamics of consulting projects, a conceptualization based on an appropriate theoretical model is required. We propose to utilize the Structuration Theory for the compilation of the social context of consulting, as this provides a framework for incorporating the social determinants, focuses on actions of human-beings, and additionally allows the identification of interrelated dependencies of structure and actions.

Inclusive measurements on diffractive processes in ep collisions
Janssen, Xavier;,;,;
Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332007000500035
Abstract: measurements from the h1 and zeus collaborations of the diffractive deep-inelastic scattering process, ep ? exy, where y is a proton or a low mass proton excitation, are presented for photon virtualities in the range 2.2 < q2 < 1600 gev2 and squared four-momentum transfer at the proton vertex satisfying | t | < 1 gev2. diffractive parton distribution functions and their uncertainties are determined from a next-to-leading order dglap qcd analysis. combining measurements of the inclusive diffractive deep-inelastic scattering process with an analysis of diffractive dijet production allows a very sensitive determination of both quark and gluon distributions.
Instruction in self-questioning as a literary reading strategy: An exploration of empirical research.
Janssen, T.
L1 Educational Studies in Language and Literature , 2002,
Abstract: In this article I examine self-questioning as a means of enhancing students’ understanding of texts, especially literary texts. Theoretical trends underlying self-questioning in reading are outlined. Next, research on the effects of self-questioning instruction is explored. Results indicate that students can be trained to ask questions during reading and that such training may lead to significant gains in reading comprehension and recall. Qualitative research indicates what approaches might be effective in the literature classroom.
A curious abnormally developed embryo of the pill millipede Glomeris marginata (Villers, 1789)
Ralf Janssen
ZooKeys , 2013, DOI: 10.3897/zookeys.276.4767
Abstract: This paper reports on an abnormally developed embryo (ADE) of the common pill millipede Glomeris marginata. This ADE represents a modified case of Duplicitas posterior, in which two posterior ends are present, but only one anterior end. While the major posterior germ band of the embryo appears almost normally developed, the minor posterior germ band is heavily malformed, has no clear correlation to the single head, little or no ventral tissue, and a minute amount of yolk. The anterior end of the minor germ band is fused to the ventral side of the major germ band between the first and second trunk segment. At least one appendage of the second trunk segment appears to be shared by the two germ bands. Morphology and position of the minor germ band suggest that the ADE may be the result of an incorrectly established single cumulus [the later posterior segment addition zone (SAZ)]. This differs from earlier reports on D. posterior type ADEs in G. marginata that are likely the result of the early formation of two separate cumuli.

Les peintures mates d’Antoine Wiertz (1806-1865)
Karine Janssen
CeROArt : Conservation, Exposition, Restauration d'Objets d'Art , 2012,
Faced with the works of Antoine Wiertz, a question arises: Is the washed-out and mat appearance of some of his paintings an artistic intent, or a consequence of alteration. Painted with a technique developed by the artist to achieve a matt appearance, these works are in fact subject to a slow degradation process. Based on the artist’s writings, his particular painting process was reproduced and analysed scientifically. This study concludes that the appearance of those artworks is not a result of the artist’s intent but caused by the combined action of various changes inherent to the painter’s technique.
