Carbon Capture and Storage and the UNFCCC: Recommendations to Address Trans-Boundary Issues  [PDF]
Viviane Romeiro, Virginia Parente
Low Carbon Economy (LCE) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/lce.2012.323017
Abstract: This paper is mainly focused on the eligibility of trans-boundary Carbon Dioxide Capture and Storage (CCS) as a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project activity and it aims to explore a broad range of CCS transboundary issues whereby the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and national governments could take into consideration. Much work is still to be done by the CCS community (including the Institute) to ensure that the implementation of CCS under the CDM is both environmentally effective and commercially attractive. The recommendations focus on technical issues, with the aim of helping Parties evaluate a robust strategy for CCS as part of international negotiations and establish CCS best practice criteria for governments and the international process, thereby enhancing transparency and ensuring that CCS deployment is safe and effective. When considering CDM projects activities with a transboundary component, it is recommend that the rules of the main international treaties related to CCS be considered by the UNFCCC, especially the London Protocol guidelines for risk assessment and management and the 2006 IPCC Guidelines. Additionally, national governments should apply the rules and guidelines as delineated under the relevant existing international treaties and CCS national regulations.
A constru??o de um mito: Ant?nio de Albuquerque e o levante emboaba
Romeiro, Adriana;
Tempo , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-77042010000200007
Abstract: this article examines the construction of the image of peacemaker hero ant?nio de albuquerque, governor of the captaincy of rio de janeiro and then the captaincy of s?o paulo and minas do ouro, considered responsible for the pacification of the war of emboabas. described by cláudio manuel da costa as a hero endowed with virtues like courage and wisdom, such image would then spread to historical studies, influencing the narratives on the war of emboabas in particular, and the albuquerque administration in general.

The Entropy Law and the Impossibility of Perpetual Economic Growth  [PDF]
Henrique N. Sá Earp, Ademar R. Romeiro
Open Journal of Applied Sciences (OJAppS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojapps.2015.510063
Abstract: Every production-recycling iteration accumulates an inevitable proportion of its matter-energy in the environment, lest the production process itself will be a system in perpetual motion, violating the second law of Thermodynamics. Such high-entropy matter depletes finite stocks of ecosystem services provided by the ecosphere, hence is incompatible with the long-term growth in the material scale of the economic process. Moreover, the complex natural systems governing such stocks respond to depletion by possibly sudden environmental transitions, thus hindering markets' very ability to adapt to the new equilibrium conditions. Consequently, uncertainty of critical resilience thresholds constrains material economic growth.
Uma abordagem centrada no usuário para o projeto de máquinas agrícolas de tra??o animal
Romeiro Filho, Eduardo;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2012000100007
Abstract: this paper presents a study conducted as a part of the design of an animal traction sewing machine using principles related to usability, ergonomics, and antropotechnology focusing on design for sustainability (dfs) and product development suitable for the base of the pyramid (bop). the present study provided information for a series of design changes in the equipment in order to improve working conditions in small family farming properties. from this approach to the analysis of an existing implement, ways of adjusting the product are suggested, and a proposal for a novel animal traction sowing machine is presented.
Desenvolvimento sustentável: uma perspectiva econ?mico-ecológica
Romeiro, Ademar Ribeiro;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142012000100006
Abstract: this paper offers a definition of sustainable development in an ecological economics perspective. for this it begins with a historical analysis of the sustainable development concept from its origins as ecodevelopment to its present formulation as green economy. it follows an assessment of the weak sustainability concept premises which allows for the neoclassical environmental economics not to take into full account the natural reality in its environmental policies proposals. the analysis of the ecological economics theoretical foundations, in turn, has made it possible to conceive a strictly ecological definition of sustainability, a necessary condition for the sustainable development definition proposed. finally, the paper deals with the problem of slowing down the economy to zero growth without causing a crisis and the problem of changing the consumption expectations in consumption societies. a definition of sustainable development is then proposed.
Tempo dos deuses, tempo dos homens: mito e história no político de Plat?o
Oliveira, Richard Romeiro;
Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2003000100004
Abstract: the present article interprets the great cosmic myth in plato?s stateman by showing that the representation of human historicity, allegorically elaborated in it, illustrates and anticipates, in a symbolic register, some of the theoretical solutions put forth by the dialogue in its conclusion, concerning the relations between the best regime and history.
Load Static Models for Conservation Voltage Reduction in the Presence of Harmonics  [PDF]
William Douglas Caetano, Patrícia Romeiro da Silva Jota
Energy and Power Engineering (EPE) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/epe.2016.82006
Abstract: The Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) is a technique that aims to achieve the decrease of power consumption as a result of voltage reduction. The customer is supplied with the lowest possible voltage level compatible with the stipulated level by the regulatory agency. International Standards ANSI C84.1-2006 and IEEE std 1250-1995 specify the range of supply voltage to electronics equipment from 0.9 to 1.05 pu of nominal voltage. To analyse the CVR effect in distribution systems with different load characteristics (residential, commercial, industrial or a combination of these), mathematical load models are used. Typically, these equipment/load models are used to analyse load aggregation without any consideration of its nonlinearity characteristics. Aiming to analyse the nonlinear characteristics and its consequences, this paper presents a discussion of the neglected variables as well as the results of a set of measurements of nonlinear loads. Different mathematical models are applied to obtain them for each load. Using these models the load aggregation is evaluated. It is presented that although the models show adequate results for individual loads, the same does not occur for aggregated models if the harmonic contribution is not considered. Consequently, to apply the load model in CVR it is necessary to consider the harmonics presence and the model has to be done using only the fundamental frequency data. The discussion about the causes is done and the models are compared with the measurements.
The impact of the maternal’s periodontal status on the detection of periodontal pathogens in newborn children =O impacto da condi o periodontal materna na detec o de patógenos periodontais em recém-nascidos
