Final de la vida y notas en bioética médica
Vitulia Ivone
Derecho PUCP , 2012,
Abstract: End of life and changes in medical bioethics The issue of the end of life includes —necessarily— an analysis of human dignity in its social and legal dimension as a parameter and value of the cultural history of countries and societies. The vagueness of this term has created, in particular, many difficulties in the effort to define its boundaries. In particular, the use of human dignity to understand the dynamics of the end of life faces the issue of medical paternalism and theory of informed consent in the doctor-patient relationship.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and malnutrition: why are we not winning this battle?
Ferreira, Ivone Martins;
Jornal de Pneumologia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-35862003000200011
Abstract: objectives: to review the mechanisms involved in the origin of malnutrition in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd), and to make a systematic review of randomized controlled studies, to clarify the contribution of nutritional supplementation in patients with stable copd. method: a systematic review of articles published in the field of nutrition, in any language and from several sources, including medline, embase, cinahl, and the cochrane registry on copd, as well as studies presented at congresses in the us and europe. results: studies on nutritional supplementation for more than two weeks showed a very small effect, not reaching statistical significance. a linear regression study found that old age, relative anorexia, and high inflammatory response are associated with non-response to nutritional therapy. conclusion: currently, there is no evidence that nutritional supplementation is truly effective in patients with copd. factors associated with non-response suggest a relationship with the degree of inflammation, including high tnf-alpha levels. measuring inflammation markers may be useful to determine prognosis and adequate therapy. treatment with anti-inflammatory cytokines or cytokine inhibitors seems promising for the future.

Rabello, Ivone Daré;
Journal of Epilepsy and Clinical Neurophysiology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-26492008000400009
Abstract: introduction: this article is derived from the lecture given in september 9th 2008, during the celebration of the "latin american day of epilepsy", which was organized by the brazilian association of epilepsy, under the presidency of doctor laura guilhoto, and took place in the state congress of s?o paulo, at the franco montoro hall. methods: by presenting some aspects of machado de assis' life, the aim here is to understand the structure of brazilian society in the 19th century, as well as the critical unveiling strength of his work. results: the biography of the writer allows us to have a model of a man and an artist, who surpassed his imposed social and personal barriers in a specific historical circumstance, including the relative questions to his health. the effort and the fight of machado de assis are very significant, and we must always remember that until nowadays it is not "natural" to win preconceptions, to move socially or to get equal opportunities. conclusions: the achievements made by machado de assis during his life are exemplary. he has never surrogated, as the "rest of the consecrated personalities" do, which comfortably installed in the fame and surrounded by the conformism, always forget about the problems of the common people.

Patr?o,Ivone;
Análise Psicológica , 2005,
Abstract: this article deals with the consequences of cancer disease in the fields of sexuality (in the development of child and/or adolescent, and in regular life of adults) and (in)fertility. the way patients live all through the cancer process (diagnosis, treatments, regular vigilance) influences the way they cope with its additional consequences. sexuality and fertility are very important areas for the individual?s quality of life that can be damaged in presence of cancer. in children and adolescent it has an impact on their psychosexual development. in adults it impacts their psychosexual functioning, either in a transitory or permanent way. cancer consequences in terms of fertility are similar for those that experienced cancer in the childhood, adolescence, and adult life (with children or not). as time goes by and pregnancy does not happen, anxiety increases given the frustration of being unable to have a child.
