Abstract: The insurance domain is one of the most complex and extensive areas of the market. However this field is very risk exposed especially in this period of economic instability. One of the most non-performant insurance products at this time is the credit insurance. Due to inability to pay and increasing bad loans, insurance companies have decided to remove these products from their portfolio. We believe that the signs that led to this situation have been very visible for a long time, but the insurance market players refused to give too much importance to them because they based their operations on the artificial strength of the whole system. In this paper we want to show how things have evolved on the credit insurance market as compared to the general insurance market, and if the present situation could have been anticipated and avoided.

Abstract: Is Romania affected by the country risk? Country risk, especially the score given by the rating companies is meant to lead to economic growth or recession. Is it possible for only one grade to have that much impact upon the economy? The truth is that such
Outward FDI and the Investment Development Path in Romania
Revista Romana de Economie , 2010,
Abstract: :Our study characterizes the outward FDI phenomenon in Romania in the light of Dunning s Investment Development Path theory, based on the relationship between a country s development level and its net international investment position, that has previously been applied to most CEE countries except for ours. A series of indicators are used, concluding that, nowadays, Romania is situated in the second stage of IDP. More, we found that the IDP paradigm is generally applicable to Romania; the specific feature consists in bigger growth rates of FDI inflows than of GDP in the first stages of IDP. Some policy implications are drawn.

Abstract: Technical progress is a key factor in economic growth, mainly due to its productivity enhancement. It is a fact that most innovation and new technologies are created in developed countries. International trade and FDI are the main channels for technology transfer. Our objective is to determine the role of FDI in technical progress. In this paper, we start with two questions: is there evidence of significant contribution of technical progress to economic growth? And if there is, what is the role of FDI in technical progress? Using a production function approach, we estimate the TFP and we regress it on the stock of FDI, in a panel framework. We find evidence of positive correlation.
The State and the Economy – Theoretical Aspects and Empirical Evidence for the EU

Theoretical and Applied Economics , 2011,
Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the determinants of state intervention upon the social and economic life, and to grasp their implications in terms of public policy. The study starts with an over time update of the main theoretical contributions. Some indicators that quantify the extent of state intervention throughout public revenues are analyzed on the EU member countries’ sample. Empirical analysis is aimed to establish the relevance held by the main determinants of state intervention in budgetary revenues for the EU countries (1995-2007). Perspectives on state interference during the actual crisis are drawn from the significant determinants of the interference policy.

Abstract: The purpose of the paper is to analyze the determinants of State intervention upon the social and economic life, and to grasp their implications in terms of public policy. The problem of State interventionism is a current one, and over time it has been under the influence of certain factors such as interstate differences, economic and social crises, political governance of the country, regional policy and globalization. The challenges that the current economic crisis brings in terms of State interventionism, are also presented. Some indicators that quantify the extent of State intervention through public expenditures are analyzed for the EU member countries (1995-2010) in order to capture the general trends in their evolution and the peculiarities of their structure. The empirical analysis, based on a panel econometric model, aims to establish the relevance held by the main determinants for the degree of State intervention in budgetary expenditure, for the EU countries. The possibilities for an increasing State interference during the crisis, related with the withdrawal of the State once the crisis would be overcome, are valued with reference to the significant determinants of the interference policy derived from empirical analysis.
The Morphosyntactic Behavior of Speech Verbs in Romance Languages. A Diachronic View

Studii de Stiinta si Cultura , 2011,
Abstract: The verbs of speech – first considered a distinct category in the classifications of Latin grammars – have been very little studied over time, as scientific works focused mainly on their functions, as revealed in discursive techniques. The class of verba dicendi is usually discussed together with the verbs of will and affection, given the fact that these classes of verbs have certain common aspects in terms of their behavior towards the syntactic rules of consecutio temporum or of the use of non-predicative moods to complete a verbal regent. The analysis of the evolution of these verbs of saying and their transition into modern Romance languages allows us to detect certain morphosyntactic changes, the most important being the limitation or even the elimination of the infinitive constructs. As a defining feature of verba dicendi stands their ability to introduce direct speech.

Applied Medical Informatics , 2012,
Abstract: Purpose: To measure changes in muscle power from before to 6 months after total knee arthroplasty and to compare outcomes with those from a control group of healthy adults. Material and Methods: 26 patients who underwent a total knee replacement were compared with 12 healthy age-matched adults in a prospective cohort study. Patients’ assessment was performed preoperatively, as well as at 1, 2 and 6 months postoperatively, by the isokinetic method. Healthy adults were assessed once by the same method. Isokinetic evaluation of knee extensor and flexor muscles was performed using a Gimnex Iso 2 dynamometer. After a warm-up protocol, measurements were done at angular velocities of 90 and 180°/sec. Results: Compared to healthy adults, patients performed significantly worse at all evaluation times, for both extensors and flexors of the knee, except for the 6-month evaluation at 180°/sec. One month postoperatively losses from preoperative levels were registered in patients, but without statistically significance, except for extension at 180°/sec. At 6 months postoperatively patients surpassed the preoperative levels, with statistical significance at 180°/sec. Conclusions: Power is an important parameter to follow after TKA, in parallel with peak torque. Increasing muscle power should be one of the central issues to address during postoperative rehabilitation.

Applied Medical Informatics , 2010,
Abstract: Purpose: Studying the effectiveness of chondroprotective agents for patients with primary knee arthritis or primary generalized osteoarthritis, according to the American College of Rheumatology 2000 criteria. Material and Methods: comparative study, the groups were constituted out of 25 patients in the study group and 15 patients in the control group. The patients were evaluated with the WOMAC test, Lequesne, cross-linked C-terminal (CTX) telopeptide of type I collagen on inclusion, at 6 and 12 months and through bilateral- knee radiography, using the Kellgren-Lawrence classification on inclusion and 12 months later. Patients from the study group received a chondroprotectiv agent orally for 12 months. Results: WOMAC score was improved in the study group at 6 and 12 months -4.1 (CI -6.1 to -2.1) and -5.9 (CI -8 to -3.8) compared to the control group 1.5 (CI -0.7 to 3.7) and 2 (CI -0.2 to 4.2), with a statistical significance p=0.02. There has also been an amelioration of the Lequesne score in the study group at 6 and 12 months -3.8 (CI -6.3 to -1.3) and -6.2 (CI -9.1 to -3.3), and the control group 1.3 (CI -1.5 to 4.1) to 6 months and 1.9 (CI -0.8 to 4.6) to 12 months, with a statistical significance p=0.03. No adverse reactions were registered. Conclusions: The chondroprotective agent was effective in improving the function of patients with osteoarthritis, the studied marker cannot be used to monitor the treatment effectiveness, and the radiological modifications in the knee are statistically insignificant after 12 months of monitoring.
