Squeezed Light and Entangled Images from Four-Wave-Mixing in Hot Rubidium Vapor
Raphael C Pooser,Vincent Boyer,Alberto M. Marino,Paul D. Lett
Physics , 2008, DOI: 10.1117/12.795474
Abstract: Entangled multi-spatial-mode fields have interesting applications in quantum information, such as parallel quantum information protocols, quantum computing, and quantum imaging. We study the use of a nondegenerate four-wave mixing process in rubidium vapor at 795 nm to demonstrate generation of quantum-entangled images. Owing to the lack of an optical resonator cavity, the four-wave mixing scheme generates inherently multi-spatial-mode output fields. We have verified the presence of entanglement between the multi-mode beams by analyzing the amplitude difference and the phase sum noise using a dual homodyne detection scheme, measuring more than 4 dB of squeezing in both cases. This paper will discuss the quantum properties of amplifiers based on four-wave-mixing, along with the multi mode properties of such devices.
Fluorescence detection at the atom shot noise limit for atom interferometry

Physics , 2014, DOI: 10.1088/1367-2630/16/9/093046
Abstract: Atom interferometers are promising tools for precision measurement with applications ranging from geophysical exploration to tests of the equivalence principle of general relativity, or the detection of gravitational waves. Their optimal sensitivity is ultimately limited by their detection noise. We review resonant and near-resonant methods to detect the atom number of the interferometer outputs and we theoretically analyze the relative influence of various scheme dependent noise sources and the technical challenges affecting the detection. We show that for the typical conditions under which an atom interferometer operates, simultaneous fluorescence detection with a CCD sensor is the optimal imaging scheme. We extract the laser beam parameters such as detuning, intensity, and duration, required for reaching the atom shot noise limit.
Character theory of infinite wreath products
Robert Boyer
International Journal of Mathematics and Mathematical Sciences , 2005, DOI: 10.1155/ijmms.2005.1365
Abstract: The representation theory of infinite wreath product groups is developed by means of the relationship between their group algebras and conjugacy classes with those of the infinite symmetric group. Further, since these groups are inductive limits of finite groups, their finite characters can be classified as limits of normalized irreducible characters of prelimit finite groups. This identification is called the “asymptotic character formula.” The K0-invariant of the group C∗-algebra is also determined.
Boyer, Robert;
Economía: teoría y práctica , 2011,
Abstract: post-keynesian and régulation research programs have in common to have constructed an alternative to standard economics whose inability to account for the stylized facts observed since the 1970s, and even more in the current crisis, is clear. a first convergence has been about the modeling of the economic post-war growth as a particular form of cumulative causation theory. a second one relates to the analysis of speculative financial booms that have been recurring since the nineties. the relative rarity of these convergences can be explained firstly by the fact that regulation approach is referring more to a marxist and kaleckian than typically keynesian tradition. secondly, these two research programs rely upon to different epistemological stances: a grand and universal theory one hand, a series of historically and spatially located analyses on the other. the depth of the crisis in mainstream economics implicit epistemology, its founding concepts and methods opens a space for collaboration between post-keynesians and regulationists. the article suggests four avenues for such a cooperation: recognition of the role of institutions, and not just of economic policy, in offsetting market failures, systematic review of the empirical relevance of the various classes of models and not only of their theoretical coherence, enrichment of typically keynesian mechanisms in order to reflect the multiple interdependencies found in contemporary economies, and finally association to any long-term growth model of the various factors that may destabilize it, according to a process endometabolism, typical of a capitalist economy. the adverse evolution of academic institutions, both at the national and global level, is perhaps the main obstacle to the implementation of such an intellectually challenging research agenda.
ARCHIPELIA.
Abstract: from the importance given to geography in the context of "spatial turn", certain aesthetic and poetic theories from different geographic, disciplinary, and cultural backgrounds will be explored, with the aim of constructing a "geoaesthetic" notion. in particular, the poetic of the landscape of edouard glissant moves us to name the new place "archipelia".
Post-Keynesian and régulation research programs have in common to have constructed an alternative to standard economics whose inability to account for the stylized facts observed since the 1970s, and even more in the current crisis, is clear. A first convergence has been about the modeling of the economic post-war growth as a particular form of cumulative causation theory. Biopolítica y filosofía feminista
Amalia Boyer
Revista de Estudios Sociales , 2012,
Abstract: Foucault recognizes diverse forms of political rationality that articulate in a specific way the procedures aimed at resolving the issue of "how to govern", distinguishing between societies of sovereignty, discipline and security. Biopower emerges in the transition from disciplinary societies to societies of security as the articulation of two technologies: the anatomopolitics and biopolitics. Sex is the hinge that links the two axis along which the political technology of life is developed. It is related to the disciplining of the body (the domestication, intensification and distribution of its strengths) and with the regulation of the population. Sex translates the "political energy" as well as "the biological vigor" of a society. Nonetheless, Foucalt insists on leaving sex and desire aside in favor of the issue of the role of pleasures. These arguments by Foucault have been problema-tized by various feminist theorists. On the one hand, they denounce the masculine character of his rhetoric, the androcentrism of his perspective and the pessimism of his vision. On the other hand, they help inspire new analyses of the technologies of the body which make visible the specific gender differences, as well as the possibility to build new political projects in support of the emancipation of women.
Introduction to the special issue

The introductory article of this thematic issue offers a brief history of regulationist research on Latin America from the early 80's to 2011. The related works have extended and enriched the concepts and methods initially elaborated for mature industrial countries. Rentier regimes are orthogonal to the Fordist regimes, the nature of international integration largely determines the dynamics of domestic institutional forms, the large size of informal work makes problematic the institutionalization of the wage labor nexus, the social insurance systems are idiosyncratic, finally weak States make difficult institutional change. Even though they share most of these features Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico are exploring largely original trajectories, which result not only of differences in natural endowments, but also of specific political alliances and the related institutionalized compromises, implicit or explicit. The polity becomes dominant during structural crises, as evidenced by Argentina after 2001. This

Capitalism Strikes Back: Why and What Consequences for Social Sciences?
Robert Boyer
Revue de la Régulation : Capitalisme, Institutions, Pouvoirs , 2007,
Abstract: This article addresses a twofold issue: why the word capitalism has become more and more frequently used during the last decade? How could socio-economic researches contribute to understanding of the contemporary transformations of the various brands of capitalism? First, it is argued that the concept of capitalism is not equivalent to the concept of market economy since it also refers to the study of social relations and dynamic patterns of evolution. Second, the 90s were probably a turning point in the analysis of contemporary societies since the built-in propensity of capitalism to innovate and ability to propel structural change and promote globalization, are easy to recognize. Third, given the multifaceted aspects of capitalism, all social sciences (legal studies, economic history, political sciences, sociology, economic theory, technical change analysis…) do shed some light upon this complex and evolving regime. The bulk of the paper then surveys both the contribution and weaknesses of economic sociology and new political economy and proposes a research agenda in which their respective programs provide a complementary analysis of contemporary structural transformations of capitalism. Regulation theory is part of such a research agenda and could itself benefit from such a joint venture.
