Estudos Avan?ados , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142010000200021
Abstract: viola (brazilian five-course guitar) is an instrument that was brought to brazil by the first people, pioneers and jesuits. it was used as a tool for the cathequesis. this instrument was transformed correspondently with the new land's development at the hands of bandeirantes (pathfinders), tropeiros (responsible for the transport of goods on donkeys) and popular singers. along with the configuration of the popular culture in brazil, viola became the speaker of the people of some regions, such as the south-east. this article deals a little with its origin and its relations with the brazilian people throughout the years.

This paper is part of a doctorate research made at Laborarte/UNICAMP from which the main focus is the story of artistic life of Denise Stutz, Brazilian dancer, and her way of acting since the 1970 until today. The specific aproach of this work refers to the period of questioning the dance and her experience in drama and performance, in a moment of esthetical and existential crisis. This research puts together voice and body in their sensitive aspects adopting as a methodological procedure in the qualitative research, the transcriation of her oral narratives and the movement analysis integrated to the analysis of the spectacle of reference works in the way of the dancer. Sewing aesthetic reflections experienced and played we may confirm the power of the art of dancing as a way of perception, transformation and creation of oneself, and this dance as a language of the body-subject pronounced in the world and for the world around.
Críticas e possibilidades da educa??o e da escola na contemporaneidade: li??es de Theodor Adorno para o currículo
Vilela, Rita Amelia Teixeira;
Educa??o em Revista , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-46982007000100012
Abstract: the text presents the sociological dimension of the thought of theodor adorno and his critical analyses pointed to the school and to the educational system, highlighting how it is up-to-date. it also comes back to the discussion of adorno about education for the emancipation and it shows that the challenge pointed by him for the education to be capable of creating the foundations for the construction of a society free from barbarism continues to be present. transferred to the challenges that lay ahead for education, in the present scenery of the global new liberalism and its contradictions, the appropriation of the potential of the epistemology of adorno becomes fundamental in the debate about the relation between the school and the society in the contemporary world, showing how his knowledge reinforces postures that, in the present, demand from the school an important role in the construction of new pedagogical relations for the production of new forms of citizenship looking to construct a world in which it is possible to live with justice and dignity.
Eliezer Schneider: um esbo?o biográfico
Jacó-Vilela, Ana Maria;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X1999000200009
Abstract: this article presents the professional trajectory of eliezer schneider, one of the first brazilians with academic training in psychology. graduated in law, in 1939, by national college of law of the old university of brazil (nowadays federal university of rio de janeiro), he applied to a position at the institute of psychology of that university, being hired in 1941. few years later, he got the master degree by university of iowa (usa), with a thesis about the emergentist theories of personality, under the supervision of gustavo bergman. due to his experience at that university, schneider kept his interest in behaviorism alive, perhaps not so for its methodology but for its emphasis in environmental situations as determinants of human behavior. his interest in psychology, according to his own report, began with law studies - how to understand the criminal, how to characterize his/her unliability? however, his main contribution relates to the training of a whole generation of social psychology teachers, who have learned, with him, to extend our sight beyond the paradigm of individualism and intimacy that identifies our psychology.
Risk factors for unpleasant paresthesiae induced by paresthesiae - producing deep brain stimulation
Vilela Filho, Osvaldo;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 1996, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X1996000100010
Abstract: paresthesiae-producing deep brain stimulation (stimulation of ventrocaudal nucleus - vc, medial lemniscus - ml or internal capsule - ic) is one of the few procedures to treat the steady element of neural injury pain (nip) currently available. reviewing the first 60 patients with nip submitted to deep brain stimulation (dbs) from 1978 to 1991 at the division of neurosurgery, toronto hospital, university of toronto, we observed that 6 patients complained of unpleasant paresthesiae with paresthesiae-producing dbs, preventing permanent electrode implantation in all of them. such patients accounted for 15% of the failures (6 out of 40 failures) in our series. in an attempt to improve patient selection, we reviewed our patients considering a number of parameters in order to determine risk factors for unpleasant paresthesiae elicited by paresthesiae-producing dbs. the results showed that this response happenned only in patients with brain central pain complaining of evoked pain, secondary to a supratentorial lesion. age, sex, duration of pain, quality of the steady pain, size of the causative lesion and site (vc,ml,ic) and type (micro or macroelectrode) of surgical exploration were not important factors. unpleasant paresthesiae in response to dorsal column stimulation, restricted thalamic lesion on computed tomography and the occurrence of associated intermittent pain were considered major risk factors in this subset of patients and the presence of cold allodynia or hyperpathia in isolation and the absence of sensory loss were considered minor risk factors. it is our hope that the criteria here established will improve patient selection and so, the overall results of dbs.
Thalamic ventrobasal stimulation for pain relief: probable mechanisms, pathways and neurotransmitters
Vilela Filho, Osvaldo;
Arquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria , 1994, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-282X1994000400022
Abstract: thalamic ventrobasal (vb) stimulation, first performed by mazars, in 1961, is a valuable means for treating central and deafferentation pain. the way it acts to achieve pain relief, however, is still a matter of controversy. in this paper, the author examines previously proposed hypotheses and suggests that vb stimulation induces pain relief by activation of a multisynaptyic inhibitory pathway to the medial thalamus, in which the dopaminergic nigrostriatal system exerts an important role and by modulation of abnormal activity in vb itself. the multisynaptic pathway involved, as well as the neurotransmitters, are suggested: vb stimulation excites somatosensory cortex through the glutaminergic thalamocortical pathway, which in turn, sends excitatory glutaminergic axons to the motor cortex. the sensorymotor cortex originates the excitatory glutaminergic corticostriatal pathway to the anterior putamen. the anterior putamen sends excitatory peptidergic (substance p) pathways to the globus pallidus interims (striatopallidal pathway) and to the substantia nigra reticulata (striatonigral pathway). the globus pallidus interims inhibits the medial thalamus through the pallidothalamic gabaergic pathway. the substantia nigra reticulata sends inhibitory gabaergic projections to the medial thalamus (nigrothalamic pathway) and excites the substantia nigra compacta. the substantia nigra compacta projects excitatory dopaminergic axons to the striatal neurons (nigrostriatal pathway) with output to the globus pallidus internus and substantia nigra reticulata and so on. data to support this hypothesis are provided by an extensive review of the literature.
Evaluation of the fluence to dose conversion coefficients for high energy neutrons using a voxel phantom coupled with the GEANT4 code
Paganini, S.;Vilela, E.;
Brazilian Journal of Physics , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-97332005000500026
Abstract: crews working on present-day jet aircraft are a large occupationally exposed group with a relatively high average effective dose from galactic cosmic radiation. crews of future high-speed commercial flying at higher altitudes would be even more exposed. to help reduce the significant uncertainties in calculations of such exposures, the male adult voxels phantom max, developed in the nuclear energy department of pernambuco federal university in brazil, has been coupled with the monte carlo simulation code geant4. this toolkit, distributed and upgraded from the international scientific community of cern/switzerland, simulates thermal to ultrahigh energy neutrons transport and interactions in the matter. the high energy neutrons are pointed as the component that contribute about 70% of the neutron effective dose that represent the 35% to 60% total dose at aircraft altitude. in this research calculations of conversion coefficients from fluence to effective dose are performed for neutrons of energies from 100 mev up to 1 gev, irradiating max with mono-energetic beams in the mode anterior-posterior. an alternative methodology is developed too, using the atmospheric neutrons spectrum simulated with geant4 code at aircraft altitude instead of the traditional method that uses mono-energetic beams. to obtain the neutrons spectrum 1.5×105 extensive atmospheric showers are simulated by cosmic rays interactions with atmospherics atoms. the main characteristics of the spectrum are in agreement with literature confirming the validity of geant4. for 100 mev energy the conversion coefficient calculated with spectrum shows a decrease of 8%, pointing out the importance of the environment influence.
Desigualdade e discrimina??o de imigrantes internacionais no mercado de trabalho brasileiro
Vilela, Elaine Meire;
Dados , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0011-52582011000100003
Abstract: this study investigates the presence of discrimination in the brazilian work market between foreign immigrants and brazilians, all men, ranging from 25 to 60 years of age. the foreign immigrants, who were korean, chinese, argentine, bolivian, chilean, paraguayan, peruvian, and uruguayan nationals, were compared to native brazilians. the data came from the brazilian national census, 2000. the findings were: 1) immigrant status is associated with higher class position and income; 2) ethnic/national origin has an impact on the individual's position in the work market; 3) immigrants' situation in the work market is heterogeneous; and iv) a situation of occupational and wage advantage does not mean that the individual does not suffer negative discrimination in the work market.
Psicoterapia breve psicodinamica preventiva: pesquisa exploratória de resultados e acompanhamento
Santeiro, Tales Vilela;
Psicologia em Estudo , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-73722008000400014
Abstract: systematic studies on psychotherapy processes, even of a prevention kind, are scarce in brazilian clinic-schools. current proposal focuses brief psychodynamic psychotherapy (bpp) conducted by students in a clinic-school context. depression, anxiety degrees and neuroticism in first-year volunteer students of the psychology undergraduate course (n=6) are evaluated at the start, end and six months after bpp ending (follow-up). depression and anxiety beck scales (bdi/bai) and the emotional/neuroticism adjustment were employed. the weekly sessions, a total of 10, were recorded in audio and observed in a room provided with unidirectional mirror. as a rule, changes, occurring in analyzed variables, were more evident from the start to the 10th session and when bdi and bai scales were used as measurements. eventual gains at the end have not always been kept in follow-up.
