Examination of Three Case Studies of Caring for Psychiatric Patients on a Medical Surgical Unit  [PDF]
Victoria Siegel
Open Journal of Nursing (OJN) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojn.2014.413096
Abstract:
Medical surgical nurses frequently care for patients with psychiatric disorders as one in four people have a diagnosed psychiatric disorder. Since these nurses specialize in medical surgical nursing, they often feel they lack the expertise to care for patients with co-morbid psychiatric problems. This article presents three case studies and delineates nursing care strategies which could assist the medical-surgical nurses in caring for this population.
The Body Mass Index (BMI) and TV Viewing in a Co-Integration Framework  [PDF]
Anastasia Victoria Lazaridi
Sociology Mind (SM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2012.23037
Abstract: Many techniques are met in the literature, trying to investigate the effect of TV watching hours on BMI. However, we haven’t traced any empirical study with co-integration analysis, as it is applied here. With this in mind, we present in this paper the proper methodology, based on the co-integration analysis for a detailed justification of the effect of TV viewing hours together with some minor changes in life style of participants on BMI. Apart from finding and testing an acceptable co-integration relation, we further formulated an error correction model to determine the coefficient of adjustment. All findings, which are fully justified, are presented in details in the relevant sections. It should be pointed out, that we haven’t met this type of analysis in the relevant literature.
Technology Policy Implementation Road: Exploring Firms’ Technology Readiness in a Mandatory Vertical Diffusion Environment  [PDF]
Victoria E. Erosa
Journal of Service Science and Management (JSSM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/jssm.2013.65A003
Abstract:

Technology Transfer and Technology Diffusion body of knowledge emerge from the research interest to explore the demand side of technology transfer by identifying the firm’s technology readiness to operate a new technology—product and process—in the context of the transfer of technology from a single source to multiple receivers/users—termed vertical diffusion—, where the adoption is by mandate. Demarcating the e-Invoice document as technology transfer object, this paper presents results of quantitative study performed with data collected from a 137 small retail firms, oriented to identify their technology readiness in terms of technology infrastructure and skills to operate under the electronic invoice legal procedure, as well as their perceived barriers for the diffusion. Results of factor analysis reveal insufficient information among all the participant firms, reflecting poor communication from the technology source, low awareness for the software solution available and of the competences/skills required to operate it as well as a passive attitude from the adopter who leans in a third party option to face the mandate.

International Public Opinion on China’s Climate Change Policies  [PDF]
Valerie Victoria Benguiat y Gomez
Chinese Studies (ChnStd) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/chnstd.2013.24027
Abstract: With the emergence of a global public sphere and the revolution of global media, international public opinion has gained an intrinsic importance for effective multilateral cooperation. Global governance initiatives are subject to international public opinion, and climate change is the single most important global governance issue of our time. Tackling climate change requires a fundamental transformation of the global economy, with an emphasis on sustainable development. Due to its political and economic weight, China can push forward UN climate change negotiations, and can do so without compromising its national development goals (China’s National Climate Change Programme, 2007). China’s national policies are beyond what is required from developing nations, but international public opinion often perceives a different message. This paper holds that a national branding strategy will help convey China’s current efforts, allowing a better understanding among nations in order to break the climate change negotiations deadlock. This research merged perception analysis and public opinion surveys with mass media qualitative and quantitative analysis to gain a full insight into what the international climate change decision-makers, opinion-leaders and general public think about China’s position at the UNFCCC negotiations. As seen in the findings of the present research, the climate of opinion is unfavorable to China. Overall, the results show that China is perceived as a negative influence in the negotiations. China’s climate change efforts are being overlooked by international public opinion. But the reason lies in China’s current discourse, where climate change and the environment are always downplayed by the right to develop (D’Hooghe, 2011). According to China’s 12th Five Year Plan, the new path for the country is marked by its commitment to achieve growth through low carbon development, with a strong focus on addressing climate change and energy challenges (Shealy & Dorian, 2007). The results of this study show that the positive intentions and actions of the Chinese government aren’t being accurately perceived by public opinion. The empirical findings in this study provide a new understanding of one specific part of the overall image that the world has about China. Whilst this study did not confirm unequivocally that international public opinion directly determines the outcomes of international negotiations and foreign policy, it did partially substantiate the concept that there’s a correlation between China’s public declarations and actions, the

El trabajo de formación de "la clase alta" argentina: Un abordaje desde la antropología social
Gessaghi,Victoria;
Intersecciones en antropolog?-a , 2012,
Abstract: this paper describes "the making of the upper class." by analyzing the life trajectories of 63 members of "traditional families" between 80 and 30 years old it describes how, in their struggle to establish themselves as a privileged group, the "great families" produce differences that arise from their "traditional names," their connection with "the land," and their connection with "national history". the article presents the constant work involved in the making of the "upper class," which implies keeping the family together through family stories that seek to integrate the interests of each of its members. the role of conflict within families is described in order to show their productive part in the "construction of the traditional family." finally, the limits imposed on the creation of this social group by the egalitarian configuration of argentinean society are analyzed. the work contributes to the analysis of the uses of certain metaphors of kinship as vectors of legitimacy in the access to certain social positions and highlights the importance of including family relationships in the analysis of capitalism.
Consumos alimentarios sustentables en argentina: Una estimación de la disposición a pagar por alimentos orgánicos frescos y procesados por consumidores de la ciudad de Buenos Aires
Lacaze,Victoria;
Agroalimentaria , 2009,
Abstract: throughout these last years, organic agriculture has undergone an important expansion due, among other things, to a higher interest of consumers that involves food quality concerns and has been influenced by mass media diffusion. the objective of this paper is to calculate consumers′ willingness-to-pay for different organic food products. the estimations were made for consumers of medium-high or high socioeconomic level who live in buenos aires city. it is predictable that those argentinean consumers would be willing to pay higher prices to purchase organic products instead of conventional ones, because the first are perceived as free of harmful substances, healthier and of exclusive quality. data derive from a food consumer survey conducted in buenos aires city, argentina, in april 2005. binomial logit models were estimated for four selected products: leafy vegetables, whole wheat flour, fresh chicken and aromatics. the intention to buy each of the selected organic products is mainly explained by the habitual consumption of organic products; respondents′ desires of organics regular availability in the domestic market and respondents′ assessment of food labels information. also health risks perceptions linked to pesticide and hormone content in conventional leafy vegetables and fresh chicken, respectively, are mentioned as well.

Victoria,Jorge;
Argos , 2006,
Abstract: in this paper the author addresses a topic linked to the haitian revolution and the loss of the spanish part of santo domingo?s island at the hands of france. the help that the black rebels of saint-domingue lent to the hispanic cause in that conflict after an alliance for mutual interests has been scarcely studied, as well as what passed with those allies after the peace agreement. the negroes went sends to havana and from there forwarded in groups to diverse parts of the caribbean and cadiz. the article analyzes the group of auxiliaries sent to trinidad, where they were rejected by the governor. it is suggested that this measure was caused by the fact that the island had more in common with ancien régime france than with its metropolis.
