Abstract: this study investigated biological, psychological and sociocultural aspects that interact in middle-aged women in order to better understand their feelings and experiences. the advent of the menopause - characterized by the end of the menstruation and by psychic and physical manifestations - imposes fundamental questions that, on the limit, may elicit depressive symptoms. hormonal changes are implicated in the aging process, that point to the finitude. a feeling of not being themselves makes many women experience difficulties with losses inherent to this life period.

Carvalho, Isalena Santos;Coelho, Vera Lúcia Decnop;
Estudos de Psicologia (Natal) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-294X2005000200010
Abstract: the present study investigated depressive symptoms in mature women, based on significant events in their life history. clinical interviews were carried out with nine women diagnosed with depression. the data analysis showed that participants had experienced parents' loss or abandonment, humiliations, ill-treatment, and were financially deprived during their childhood. such events had a profound impact on their physical and mental health. as adults, some women have lost their children prematurely. there are also cases of marital violence. depressive complaints seem to be related to low self-esteem images concerning their role as mothers and wives, with feelings of guilt and failure. the study, points out the need of clinical care related to the history of mature women facing depressive symptoms. it is also suggested a discussion of gender category in the field of mental health, in order to review historical and cultural concepts of women's life cycle.

Carvalho, Isalena Santos;Coelho, Vera Lúcia Decnop;
Psico-USF , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-82712006000100013
Abstract: in literature, feminine maturity tends to be characterized by menopause, departure of children from home, care or loss of aged parents and questioning about life choices. another question associated is the possibility of depressive symptoms occurrence. in that perspective, this article aims at identifying events of maturity possibly related to feminine depression. nine women with depression diagnosis, attended in a public hospital in brasília, took part in a group of psychological intervention. the analysis of the encounters suggests that losses associated to their aging process, such as occurrence of physical limitations, modifications in their auto-image and in the interpersonal relations specific of maturity, as well as the fear of future familiar dependency, have contributed to the symptoms related above. the difficulty of elaborating new life projects, with depreciation of the personal value was another factor possibly related. it is necessary to evaluate challenges faced by women in maturity for an understanding of the depressive complaint and the development of intervention proposals.

Psicologia: Ciência e Profiss?o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-98932011000100002
Abstract: the present study, based on the life cycle epigenetic model and lifespan psychology, was designed to (1) understand aspects of the aging process from eight elders’ life stories, (2) investigate the way selective optimization with compensation strategies and vital involvement aspects appear in old age as well as (3) the contributions of generativity and social participation to the aging process. the subjects participated in a semi-structured interview. a qualitative analysis of the data pointed out the influence of several factors on the construction of a successful aging such as generativity, social participation and relationship with their children and grandchildren. factors such as stagnation and lack of social involvement seem to contribute to the development of psychopathology symptoms.

Mori, Maria Elizabeth;Coelho, Vera Lúcia Decnop;Estrella, Renata da Costa Netto;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006000900013
Abstract: this study focused on psychological care for middle-aged women in public health services in the federal district (brasilia), brazil. the article discusses women's health and more specifically menopause and its place in brazilian public health policies. the survey confirmed the lack of psychological support for menopausal women. in most cases only outpatient medical care was offered. no psychologist had been designated in any of the units surveyed to assist these women. the study concludes that this period of women's life has failed to receive psychological care in brazil, thus neglecting the principles of the unified national health system. menopausal women deserve comprehensive health care, including attention to conflicts related to biological, psychological, and socio-cultural dimensions of aging, thus contributing to the process of working through maturity.

Abstract: It was studied the dynamics of deforestation and burning that occur around (buffer zone) the protected area of Rio Ronuro, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The objective of the research is to support the implementation of a management system appropriate to the reality of protected area. The data of the dynamics of deforestation were obtained for the Secretary of Environment of Mato Grosso (SEMA/MT). The polygons of deforestation for the years 2005 and 2007 were developed through visual interpretation of Landsat 5 TM. Already data from sources of heat registered in the buffer zone the Rio Ronuro, are from National Institute for Space Research of Brazil (INPE). As the two variables (fire and deforestation), more attention should be directed to properties located in the northwest edge of protected area. The program of monitoring and protection should prioritize activities in environmental education targeted, primarily to residents of the region. Shares of regular and systematic monitoring should occur in addition.Key-words: deforestation, burning, buffer zone, Rio Ronuro protected area.
Detec??o imunoistoquímica das oncoproteínas p21ras, c-myc E p53 no carcinoma hepatocelular e no tecido hepático n?o-neoplásico

Abstract: background: genetic and epigenetic alterations have been described in animal hepatocarcinogenesis models but need to be studied in human being. aims: to assess the immunoreactivity of p21ras, c-myc and p53 oncoproteins in hepatocellular carcinoma and non neoplastic tissue. association of the immunoreactivity of these markers with histological grades and patterns, hepatitis b and c were additionally studied. methods: detection of oncoproteins p21ras, c-myc and p53 was performed immunohistochemically in hepatocellular carcinoma (47 cases) and surrounding non neoplastic liver tissue (40 cases). results: oncoproteins p21ras, c-myc and p53 were detected in 44,7%, 53,2% and 36,2% of the hepatocellular carcinoma cases, respectively. the p21ras and c-myc immunoreactivity has shown a significant association. however there was no association of p21ras, c-myc and p53 detection with hepatitis b and c virus infections, histological grades and patterns. the same significant association between p21ras and c-myc was observed in non-neoplastic tissue with cirrhosis when compared with tissue without it. the p53 immunoreactivity was negative in all non-neoplastic liver tissue samples. conclusions: the immunoreactivity detection of p21ras, c-myc and p53 corroborates previous evidence of their detection in hepatocellular carcinoma that suggest the participation of these proteins in human hepatocarcinogenesis. the significant association between p21ras and c-myc oncoproteins in hepatocellular carcinoma and in cirrhosis can point to an interaction between them mainly, in hepatocarcinogenesis that occurs through cirrhosis.
