Abstract: vertical condylar asymmetry (vca) is considered a risk factor for the development of a temporomandibular disorder (tmd). vca is determined by comparing the vertical condylar height between the left and right condyle. several techniques have been developed to evaluate this asymmetry, and the most common among them are developed by kjellberg et al. (1994) and habets et al. (1988). the objective of this study was to evaluate the similarity of the habets' and kjellberg's methods with regard to these results and analyze the vca results of the temporomandibular joint in patients with signs and symptoms of tmd. we analyzed 48 patients between 12 and 65 years of age. in each patient, the percentage of condylar symmetry according to the kjellberg's and habets' indexes was established and related to sex, age, and signs and symptoms of tmd at admission compared with patients who are symmetrical and asymmetrical. finally, we compared the results of two indexes. according to habets' index, 70.8% of patients were classified as asymmetric, compared with kjellberg index where it was only 54.2%. no statistically significant difference was found between the severity of signs and symptoms of tmd and sex, age, habets' index, and kjellberg's index. we also found no statistically significant difference between patient age and kjellberg index, but between age and habets' index, younger patients were symmetrical. we conclude that it is conceivable that the presence of vca is not a risk factor for tmd development.

Abstract: objective: determine the agreement between visual detection, conventional radiology and digital radiology methods in the diagnosis of interproximal and occlusal caries in the posterior teeth of a group of patients with low caries prevalence. materials and methods: visual, conventional radiographic and digital radiographic (digora?, soredex, sweden) caries diagnosis was performed in a group of patients (n=30) of both sexes with ages ranging from 15 to 65 years (x = 34 years). agreement was estimated by the linear weighted kappa index. results: kappa = 0.17 was obtained between the visual examination and the conventional radiographic examination and kappa = 0.16 between the visual examination and the radiovisiography. between conventional and digital radiography the kappa indexes were 0.81 overall, 0.87 in the dentine and 0.66 in the enamel. compared to visual examination, 3.23 times more caries lesions were diagnosed with digital radiology and 2.88 times more with conventional radiography. 94% of the new caries detected were interproximal. conclusions: the use of radiographic techniques, whether conventional or digital, increases the number of caries diagnosed in comparison with conventional clinical examination. the two radiographic techniques show high agreement in lesion diagnosis.

Grasas y Aceites , 2003,
Abstract: The purpose of this study was to prepare a dressing using blanched Argentinian peanuts, that looks like mayonnaise and that has a patterns of a healthy nourishment. The general composition of the product, as well as the fatty acid composition and stability to oxidation were determined and compared to standard commercial mayonnaise and sunflower oil. A consumer test was performed on the product. The results showed a better nutritional quality of the peanut mayonnaise, due to a lower fat and caloric contents and a higher mono-unsaturated proportion of fatty acids than the other dressings. This product contains fiber and vitamin E, it lacks cholesterol and is low in sodium. The stability to lipid oxidation was similar to that of standard commercial mayonnaise and sunflower oil. Concerning sensorial aspects, the product was well accepted by 71.7 % of the consumer panelists. It responds to healthy-food guidelines and can be used for various purposes.
