Abstract: the results of ceramic analysis from 12 archaeological sites related to the early historical period(xvi century) are exposed. these sites are located near the andean mountains in ninth and tenth regions, provinces of cautín and valdivia, chile (ix & xth region of chile). the ceramic analysis was oriented to identify, describe and classify the indigenous and european pottery traditions, in order to understand the process of cultural contact between the mapuche local populations and spaniards. finally, the interpretation of the archaeological data is supplemented by historical records for the early contact period

The results of ceramic analysis from 12 archaeological sites related to the early historical period(XVI century) are exposed. Abstract: two pottery sets from san martín de los andes, neuquén, in argentina, which show evident prints of leaves in negative on their external surfaces are described in this paper/article. this feature/characteristic mentioned above allows us to analize similar findings obtained from wooded lacustrine environment located on the western slope of the cordillera de los andes. besides, we may also focus on territorial issues related to groups settled on both slopes of the mountain range who developed a pottery technology described as pitrén complex.

This paper describes an experimental approach developed in order to determine if the surface modifications known as negative-leaf imprints found on archaeological pottery from recently excavated sites at San Martin de los Andes, Argentina well-documented throughout South Central Chile were the result of an artistic choice or an inadvertent by-product of the firing process. Our results support the first hypothesis over the second. Thus we conclude that these negative-leaf imprints represents a stylistic tool developed by the Southern Andean pottery artists and the manufacturing technique as a type of "reserve".

Abstract: the purpose of this study was to identify if there were differences in perceived fear in 9 to 12 year old boys and girls that live in mexico city. qualitative information was obtained which was used to build a likert type scale responded by 300 children. a factor analysis determined the existence of four factors: fear of the unknown, fear of animals, fear at school, and fear of danger and death. statistical differences were found in all factors, girls obtaining higher mean values. the highest mean values were observed in fear of danger and death, both among boys and girls, possibly because of the insecurity situation that surrounds life in this country.

Abstract: the present study obtained data on the frequency of posttraumatic stress disorder (ptsd) symptoms from a national sample of mexican journalists. the main objective of this exploratory and transversal study was to assess ptsd symptoms, and identify differences by gender (male/female), assignment (journalists who cover drug trafficking news/other journalists), and professional activity (reporter/ photographer). the ptsd checklist-civilian version (pcl-c), and a questionnaire on sociodemographic data were used. the instruments were applied in a national context of war on drugs, in which acts of extreme violence like mass murders, beheadings and skinning are present. results indicate that 35% of the journalists had ptsd symptoms. however, rates of ptsd symptoms in reporters who cover drug war news were significantly higher than in journalists who cover other assignments (p=.03).

Abstract: the caleta coloso duplex is a brittle strike-slip structure developed along the atacama fault system during the early cretaceous. a hydrothermal vein system existing within the duplex documents the nature of the link between fluid transport and progressive structural development. the dominantly nw-striking vein system occurs near or at the damage zone of the duplex fault zones. veins can be classified according to their composition and crosscutting relationships into early chlorite veins, intermediate epidotic-quartz veins and late calcite-limonite veins. some of them exhibit minerals with their long axes oriented orthogonally or obliquely with respect to the vein walls (extension veins and oblique-extension veins), whereas others show mineral fibers that are parallel to striae of the hosting faults (fault-veins). the latter show kinematic indicators that are compatible with those of the faults, suggesting they were synkinematic with strike-slip duplex development. the vein microstructure suggests that they form from fluid-filled open fractures under subhydrosthatic pressures suggesting that mineral precipitation was triggered by pressure drops at shallow crustal levels (<4 km) consistent with the suction pump mechanism. 40ar/39ar and k-ar ages between 119 and 141 ma are interpreted as the approximate time window within which the duplex and veins were developed.

Abstract: diet and caloric sufficiency in the migrant indigenous population of the altos region of chiapas, méxico. the population that has migrated from rural zones to urban areas is subject to changes in their dietary patterns and is considered a vulnerable population group in terms of food security. this article describes the diet of the immigrant indigenous population in the city of san cristóbal de las casas, analyzing the factors that contribute to adequate calorie consumption in 143 families. this is a cross-sectional study based on a structured interview in which information was obtained related to socio-economic variables, the variety and types of foods in the home, and adequate calorie consumption per capita based on requirements according to age and sex. using nonparametric statistical tests, the relationship between the population?s income level and the number of calories available was determined. results show a significant association between the income level of the population and the number of calories available in homes; however, there is not a significant association between the amount of time a family has lived in the city and the type and variety of foods available to and consumed by these families. results show that 91.3% of these families ingest the suggested calorie consumption; the population with the lowest income levels represents a lower percentage of this indicator, and also showed significant deficiencies in proteins and nutrients such as calcium and vitamin a. the implications of rural-urban migration by indigenous populations in relation to diet quality are discussed
