Veliz,Fernando;
Signo y Pensamiento , 2006,
Abstract: chilean cinema is a discursive field of the audiovisual industry, still in development stage. its history is loaded with vagueness and multiple beginnings that often break at the outset. it is a kind of cinema committed to social issues, which at the same time is not foreign to alienation and censorship from above. it is an artsy type that aspires to seem industrial. chilean cinema narrates from the third world, while 98% of the country's internal consumption (at peak times) pertains to us productions. in other words, it has formed through the absolute self-management of its symbolic capital. it is a cinema that is raising its new breed of directors through books and cult movies, directors that seek to understand their role in this industry that today, with the passing of time, holds audiences captive. it is a cinema that at times walks next to the state, and on occasions solitude becomes its only companion. lastly, it is a type of cinema founded on its creativity, its self-discovery, and the penchant for transcending its own vocation - understanding, little by little, that its aggregate value lies with its local histories.

Revista chilena de literatura , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22952009000200009
Abstract: the present work proposes to demonstrate the existence of an intertextuality between the poem " vocales para hilda " of gonzalo rojas and the sonnets " voyelles " and "el dolor de las cinco vocales " of arthur rimbaud and césar vallejo respectively. to achieve this purpose a bibliographic recollection and a critical review of the texts has been done, and a register of the intertextual data present in the poem (phonic, grammatical, and semantic level) was also establihed. the results demostrated the presence ofthe above mentioned intertextual relationship, that is why it may be assumed that gonzalo rojas' text is not only a love poem; it also establishes a dialogue with the already mentioned rimbaud and vallejo, which means thispoem has a much wider potential meaning.

Abstract: Vulnerability constitutes an integral system that arises as a consequence of the interaction between a series of factors and characteristics which maybe internal or external. The result of this interaction is the blocking or the inability of the analyzed object to respond appropriately to the presence of certain events with the consequent damage and/or the interruption of its functions. Hence, this project makes reference to the physical vulnerability that specifically analyzes the localization of human establishments and the faulty design of the physical structures. Vulnerability is evaluated for all categories of events which are likely to affect the analyzed object independent of the established conditions of the design. This same process determines: the degree of loss or damage caused by natural and/or technological events up to a certain category at a specific time; the hazard to human and the material losses. The interruption of the economic activities and the normal operation of the society are also analyzed, which are aspects known by functional vulnerability. This project applies the method of finite elements to obtain the quantitative evaluation of the vulnerability of telecommunication towers under the effects of hurricanes.
Reduction of Boolean Networks
Alan Veliz-Cuba
Quantitative Biology , 2009,
Abstract: Boolean networks have been successfully used in modelling gene regulatory networks. In this paper we propose a reduction method that reduces the complexity of a Boolean network but keeps dynamical properties and topological features and hence it makes the analysis easier; as a result, it allows for a better understanding of the role of network topology on the dynamics. In particular, we use the reduction method to study steady states of Boolean models.

Abstract: this study reveals the diversity, and the bathimetric and latitudinal distribution of the snails of the trochidae family members in northern chile, throughout the analysis of all trochidae gastropods entailed in intertidal and subtidal (from the `camarón naylon' fishery) samples collected during 1996 and 1999 between arica (ca 18o s) and los vilos (ca 31o s). the trochidae family in northern chile have four genus: tegula and diloma that are distributed on intertidal and shallow subtidal habitats, and calliostoma and bathybembix which occurr at dephts greather than 200 m. tegula have 6 species: t. quadricostata, t. luctuosa, t. ignota, t. atra, t. tridentata, and t. euryomphala are distributed on intertidal and shallow subtidal habitats. diloma is a monospecific genus, whereas d. nigerrima is an intertidal species. the genus calliostoma have two species c. chilena and c. delli occurring between 200 and 750 m depth and the bathybembix with two species, b. humboldti and b. macdonaldi, distributed between 200 and 1480 m depth. the bathimetric distribution of trochidae shows a strong correlation with food strategy: diloma and tegula are herbivores, while bathybembix species are deposit feeders and calliostoma are carnivores

Diloma y Tegula son herbívoros, las especies del género Bathybembix son alimentadoras de depósito y las de Calliostoma son carnívoras This study reveals the diversity, and the bathimetric and latitudinal distribution of the snails of the Trochidae family members in northern Chile, throughout the analysis of all Trochidae gastropods entailed in intertidal and subtidal (from the `camarón naylon' fishery) samples collected during 1996 and 1999 between Arica (ca 18o S) and Los Vilos (ca 31o S).
