RESULTADOS: Vinte e seis (86%) pacientes do GI e 10 (100%) do GII tiveram sucesso imediato (p= 0,5558).

Abstract: In this paper the robust capacitated international sourcing problem (RoCIS) is approached. It consists of selecting a subset of suppliers with finite capacity, from an available set of potential suppliers internationally located. This problem was introduced by González-Velarde and Laguna in [1], where they propose a deterministic solution based on tabu search memory strategies. In this work a structural and landscape analysis for the larger problem instances is reported, to try of explain the relative hardness observed when the improved tabu solution [11] is applied to solve the instances.

Abstract: this study was designed to determine the seroprevalence of herpes simplex virus type 2 (hsv-2) and to evaluate its association with age, sex as well as other demographic and behavioural factors in 150 human immunodeficiency virus (hiv) positive adults patients attending the general medical outpatient ward for routine care of niterói, state of rio de janeiro, brazil. serum samples were screened for hsv-2 antibodies using an indirect elisa. eighty-three patients were men (mean age: 38.8) and 67 were women (mean age: 35.4). the estimated prevalence of hsv-2 was 52% (95% ci: 44-60%) and it was higher among men (53%) than among women (50.7%). overall, the age of first sexual intercourse and past history of genital herpes were associated with hsv-2 seropositivity. analysis by gender disclosed significant association of number of lifetime sex partners only among men. although hsv-2 antibodies were frequent in the study group, genital herpes was reported by 21.8% of the hsv-2 positive subjects, indicating low awareness of the hsv-2 infection. these results may have public health importance for brazil as the high rate of hsv-2 infection may act as a cofactor of hiv transmission.

Abstract: purpose: to determine the clinical importance of a bi-directional line of block demonstration in the inferior vena cava-tricuspid annulus isthmus as an end-point for radiofrequency (rf) atrial flutter (fl) ablation. methods: forty consecutive patients (51±11 years) with type i fl were divided in 2 groups: gi (30 patients) anatomic, non-electrophysiologic isthmus ablation technique (interruption and non-induction fl criteria); and gii (10 patients) anatomic with electrophysiologic evaluation of bi-directional isthmus conduction. the isthmus activation was analyzed before and after anatomic rf ablation with a cateter exploring each side of the line of block, depending on the conduction evaluation (anterograde or retrograde). results: fl was interrupted and not reinduced in 26/30 (86.6%) gi patients and in 10 (100%) gii patients (p= 0.5558). during follow-up fl recurred in 30% of the patients in both groups. in gii, 6 patients with bi-directional block remained assymptomatic, whereas 3 patients with unidirectional block presented recurrence (p= 0.012). conclusion: electrophysiologic demonstration of bi-directional line of block in the isthmus is related to long-term success and should be the criterion for interruption of type i atrial fl rf ablation.

Abstract: We report on the short-time dynamics in colloidal mixtures made up of monomers and dimers highly confined between two glass-plates. At low concentrations, the experimental measurements of colloidal motion agree well with the solution of the Navier-Stokes equation at low Reynolds numbers, which takes into account the increase of the drag force on each particle due to wall-particle hydrodynamic forces. We find that the ratio of the short-time diffusion coefficients of the monomer and that of the center of mass of the dimer remains independent of both the total packing fraction and the dimer molar fraction up to concentrations near to the crystallization transition. The same physical scenario is observed for the ratio between the parallel and perpendicular components of the short-time diffusion coefficients of the dimer. This dynamical behavior is corroborated by means of Molecular Dynamics computer simulations that explicitly include the particle-particle hydrodynamic forces induced by the solvent. Thus, our results point out toward that the effects of the particle-particle hydrodynamic interactions on the diffusion coefficients are identical and, thus, factorable in both species.

Abstract: Fasciolosis is a parasitic disease of world distribution affecting mainly domestic ruminants. The control of this disease is carried out using chemical fasciolicides which, in some cases, have been observed to have environmental problem such us pollution resistance. An alternative is to investigate extracts from plants with anti-Fasciola hepatica effects, taking advantage of the great diversity of flora of our country. The aim of this paper is to identify, assess and elucidate the anti-Fasciola hepatica effect in vitro using antiparasitic extracts of some plants used in Mexican ethno botany. We collected, dried, processed and tested in vitro about 20 plants with their respective chemical elements (hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol), obtaining results of a total of 60 extracts tested. The in vitro evaluations were carried out for 3 days, and the efficacy of each extract was compared with an untreated control group. Each test was repeated 6 times with 13 extracts that showed greater fasciolocide activity. Results from these 13 extracts tested ranged from 80% to 100% activity and the plants tested were: Castela tortuosa (chaparro amargo), Achillea millefolium (plumajillo), Thymus vulgaris (thyme), Justicia spicigera (muicle), Limpia critridora (cedron), Populus alba (Alamo), Mentha piperita (mint), Chenopodium graveolens (epazote de zorrillo), Lippia graveolens (oregano), Artemisia mexicana (estafiate) and Artemisia absinthium (wormwood), which is the hexane variable which showed higher fasciolicide capacity; using a dose of 500 gr/Lt in all the trials. Further in vitro studies should be conducted to obtain the LD50 of each extract to be able to isolate the main active element found in the hexane variable.

Abstract: the disease known as 'permanente del tomate' produces the greatest damage in those regions where tomato plantings are established in the spring-summer season. the etiology of this disease has been related to non-cultured type bacteria and its transmission with the psillid bactericera (=paratrioza) cockerelli (sulc) (hemiptera: triozidae). the objective of this research was to discern the association between the psillid and the disease. the obtention of inoculum and the bioassay s for transmission were performed in entomological cages under greenhouse conditions. transmission from tomato plant to tomato plant was performed through grafting from plants that showed the characteristic symptoms of the disease in the field. tissue from diseased plants and from the psillid was analyzed by pcr, hybridization and sequenciation of cloned products. the reproduction of the disease symptoms was observed in tomato plants grafted and in plants exposed to b. cockerelli. bioassays of transmission of this pathogen by the insect were positive, and the acquisition periods were: 15 min, 2, 3 and 48 h for nymphs and 30 min, 2, 3, 8 and 48 h for adults, with transmission periods of 15 min, 2 and 24 h for adults and 24 h of incubation. the product of pcr of b cockerelli was cloned and partially sequenced and registered in the gene bank with the number dq355020, this sequence presented 99% similarity with accessions dq355018 and dq355019 obtained from diseased tomato plants with permanente del tomate, which confirms the association between the insect and the disease.
