The television representation of African immigrants: invisibility, ignorance and uncertainty
AbstractThe television image of African immigrants is characterized by its infrequent occurrence, the lack of information about them, poor working conditions, their tendency to play the role of victims and a higher incidence of violations of the law regarding other groups. This data comes from examining the representation of immigrants in this media. The technique used was content analysis of a sample of the most watched programs, which included all television genres. The results for the Africans pointed a weak link with the workplace, which doesn't contribute to their valuing as necessary and useful citizens. The interest in knowledge of this group wasn't promoted, nor the notion that now forms part of society, due to low visibility and the limited information provided on them. Instead of highlighting their contributions, be emphasized their use on government assistance and their dependence, conveying the idea of the competition for resources and normalcy of their situation of inequality. Finally, its illegal actions, more commons than in the other groups, could be justifying these worst conditions of integration, freeing of responsibility to the host society.

PASOS : Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural , 2007,
Abstract: The tourist environment should be also analysed, apart from dynamism, considering complexity. The objective of this paper is then to analyse the existence of differences in perceiving environmental complexity during the years 2001 to 2003. The Rasch model (1960, 1980) is applied and the complexity is considered a latent variable. We used the information from a sample of decision makers of tourist firms in Canary Islands (Spain). The results confirm demand and competitors as the most complex variables. The relevant differences among years are those related to physical barriers, outer dependence and attitude towards firms

Journal of Microbiology & Biology Education , 2012, DOI: 10.1128/jmbe.v13i2.421
Abstract: Our environment is full of potential carcinogens such as UV light, industrial pollutants, pesticides, and food additives, among others. It is estimated that 90% of all carcinogens are also mutagens. The Ames test is one of the most common tests for mutagens. In this problem-based learning activity, undergraduate biology students used the Ames test to screen a substance they provided, to see if it could be considered a mutagen. The idea of surveying substances used in everyday life appealed to our students, and helped engage them in this activity.

Advances in Parkinson's Disease (APD) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/apd.2016.54009
Abstract: Purpose: Rapid eye movement sleep behavior disorder (RBD) and impulse control disorders (ICDs) are common in subjects with Parkinson’s disease. The association between these two conditions has been contradictory. The aim of this study is to analyze the association between these two non-motor symptoms. Methods: Consecutive subjects with Parkinson’s disease attending the Movement Disorders Outpatient Clinic were included. The presence of ICDs was assessed using the Questionnaire for Impulse Control Disorders Rating Scale. RBD was diagnosed by an overnight, single night polysomnography. Results: Fifty-five consecutive subjects with Parkinson’s disease were included. The prevalence of ICDs and related behaviors was 23.6% (ICD in 14.5% and related behaviors in 9.1%). RBD was diagnosed in 47.2% of the patients. No differences were found in the frequency of ICDs and related behaviors when comparing subjects with and without RBD (23% versus 24.1%, p = 0.926, respectively). Conclusion: No association between the presence of RBD and the frequency of ICDs in subjects with Parkinson’s disease was found.

Maderas. Ciencia y tecnología , 2013, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-221X2013005000006
Abstract: the anti-skid resistance of six coatings (alfa, beta, gamma, lambda, mu and theta) designed for outdoor wood flooring were tested in chestnut (castanea sativa mill.) and pine (pinus pinasterait.) using a portable skid resistance tester according to standard env 12633. film thickness, coating retention level, and presence of mineral particles were determined for each coating. furthermore, the liquid water absorption coefficient of chestnut was determined in accordance with standard une-en 1609, to relate all parameters. the highest value of skid resistance in both chestnut and pine was obtained with coating mu (49.75) and coating gamma (53.16), respectively. film thickness and coating retention level were consistently higher for pine than for chestnut. gamma presented the highest presence of minerals. for chestnut the absorption coefficient of liquid water in the tangential direction was 0.0056 ± 0.0010 kg·m-2·s-0.5, considerably lower than the value found for pine: 0.011 kg·m-2·s-0.5. the different performance of the system wood-coating, and consequently the anti-skid resistance, was attributed to the absorption properties of the different species.
Ruiz Madro?ero,Christhy Vanessa; Rodríguez Paéz,Jorge Enrique;
Ingeniería e Investigación , 2010,
Abstract: sodium aluminate, naalo2? xh2o, is an important comercial chemical used in water treatment, as a source of aluminium in the preparation of zeolites and other catalytic materials and as an additive in paper manufacturing. sodium aluminates were synthesised in this work by using the al(no3)3 ? 9h2o- naoh system's controlled precipitation method. using the controlled precipitation method enabled identifying the process's different stages from potentiometric titration of al(no3)3 ? 9h2o dissolved in water and using naoh as precipitating agent to ensure control and reproducibility and also identify final product characteristics. powders were characterised by infrared spectroscopy (ftir), x-ray diffraction (xrd) and gravimetric and differential thermal analysis (gdta). the results indicated that naalo2 crystallised well at 1,000°c (obtained as the main crystalline sodium aluminate phase) and that β-alumina treatment began to form at 1,500°c.
