We are overcoming a development model that privileges the privatization of short-and mid-term profits and the socialization of long-term losses. This kind of development has been indicated as economically unsustainable on the long term even for the minority that benefits from it. This article analyzes organizational decision-making processes that try to overcome the utilitarian economic rationality and incorporate other models promoting ecodevelopment. It presents an exploratory study of projects that claim to promote sustainable tourism and entrepreneurial social responsibility. Even though there could be more mistakes than successes, these projects have incorporated both concepts. One must consider that, in a time of paradigmatic changes as we live today, one must not analyze new experiences too closely because there is the risk of disregarding elements that could bring new concepts or that are still under construction.

Abstract: the objective of this work it was verify the abundance, richness, and the anuran composition in plots of vegetation of different succession stages in a forest and the matrix that surrounds it, of acre (10o04's, 67o37'w). the sampling was carried out between august 2005 and april 2006 in twelve plots located in three different sites in the forest. in each site four kinds of environments were chosen: primary forest (wood), secondary forest (capoeira), periphery (matrix) and secondary forest (succession). a total of twenty-seven species distributed in seven families was found. greater abundance was registered in the plots of matrix two and capoeira three and the least in succession one. the richness was greater in matrix two, with the greater number of exclusive species. the abundance of anurans correlated significantly, with the average circumference at the breast height of the trees of the plots. the richness however correlated only marginally, with this structural feature. the larger richness in plots of capoeira and matrix can be explained partially by the existence of temporary ponds and more structural heterogeneity is able constitute intermediary stages in a gradient of perturbation and this can increase the biodiversity. thus environments with intermediary levels of disturbance are important for the conservation of the diversity of anuran amphibians.

Abstract: This study was developed at Universidade do Planalto Catarinense—UNIPLAC, an university established since 1954, located in the city of Lages State of Santa Catarina, southern Brazil. The city of Lages has approximately 160,000 inhabitants. In 1997, the Planalto Catarinense University (UNIPLAC) created the Scientific Exhibition (Mostra Científica), intended to disclose scientific works brought about by their faculty, researchers and students. The goal is to identify UNIPLAC’s scientific output from 1997 to 2012 in the Scientific Exhibition. A survey of existing reports on the exhibition was executed. 3237 scientific works have been published since the creation of the event in 1997 until 2012. Initially, the Scientific Exhibition was intended for the presentation of degree requirement works and was extended to works of research and extension developed within UNIPLAC and other institutions. There was a considerable increase in the number of works presented along the years of Scientific Exhibition, and therefore there was also a greater integration between the university and the community. The exhibition motivates students to submit their ideas, writings and findings. The young scholar shows greater motivation towards his studies. Academic exchange operates in several ways: between teachers and students of an institution and towards colleagues from other institutions. The scientific and technological advancements of a nation depend on the quality of its researchers, on the awareness of its science and the interaction between industry and science.

Acta Crystallographica Section E , 2011, DOI: 10.1107/s1600536811046605
Abstract: In the title compound, C15H13N3O3S, the C—S—N(H)—N linkage is non-planar, the torsion angle being 65.12 (13)° and the S atom showing a tetrahedral environment. The compound has two almost planar fragments linked to the S atom: the isatin-derivative fragment [(C8H5NO)N—N(H)–] and the tolyl fragment [C7H7–] have maximum deviations from the mean plane through the non-H atoms of 0.0813 (13) and 0.0094 (16) , respectively, and make an interplanar angle of 80.48 (3)°. In the crystal, molecules are connected into inversion dimers via pairs of N—H...O hydrogen bonds. Additionally, the molecular structure is stabilized by an intramolecular N—H...O hydrogen bond.

Anuário do Instituto de Geociências , 2010,
Abstract: The aim of this study was to identify possible zonation patterns and assess the environmental impact on the Potengi River Estuary, Rio Grande do Norte State, through the distribution of benthic foraminifera associated to bacterial activity and abiotic parameters. Six sediment samples were collected from locations that presented clear signs of pollution. The environment was predominantly anaerobic and fermentation occurred at all sites. Forty-two species of foraminifera were identified. The dominant species were Ammonia tepida and Arenoparrella mexicana, which are known to be opportunistic, and able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions. CCA analyses showed that salinity and organic matter, followed by bacterial carbon, were more strongly linked to organism distribution in the Potengi River Estuary. Dissolved oxygen concentration, temperature and total organic matter were higher at the estuary mouth than at the other sites, creating favorable conditions for foraminiferal growth and allowing the faunistic succession on the upper estuary. As foraminifera assemblages when associated to environmental parameters can be used as efficient proxies for environmental diagnosis, these results suggest that the Potengi Estuary is under great stress from the surrounding urban development.

Abstract: Transcription factors of the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) family control important processes in all eukaryotes. In plants, bZIPs are master regulators of many central developmental and physiological processes, including morphogenesis, seed formation, abiotic and biotic stress responses. Modulation of the expression patterns of bZIP genes and changes in their activity often contribute to the activation of various signaling pathways and regulatory networks of different physiological processes. However, most advances in the study of plant bZIP transcription factors are related to their involvement in abiotic stress and development. In contrast, there are few examples of functional research with regard to biotic stress, particularly in the defense against pathogens. In this review, we summarize the recent progress revealing the role of bZIP transcription factors in the biotic stress responses of several plant species, from Arabidopsis to cotton. Moreover, we summarize the interacting partners of bZIP proteins in molecular responses during pathogen attack and the key components of the signal transduction pathways with which they physically interact during plant defense responses. Lastly, we focus on the recent advances regarding research on the functional role of bZIPs in major agricultural cultivars and examine the studies performed in this field.
