Abstract: the law n. 10.639-2003 and it's directives approval, which had changed the law of directives and basis for brazilian education, assumes a set of substantial changes that has begun to alter the educational public policies in the country. the obligatoriness of ethnic-racial education, as well as afro-brazilian and african historical and cultural studies in basic education, is a result of the acknowledgement of both racial discrimination and racism as constitutive elements of our social development, as it allows unveiling the african contributions to our brazilian identity far beyond slavery. the black identity, as a product of cultural multiplicity's political erasure of the people who landed in the country, give place to the prefix afro as a new identification and recreation possibility for the brazilians who descend from the africans. this identity can be analyzed trough the diaspora concept.
Presen?a de mosquitos (Diptera: Culicidae) em piscin?es na zona leste de S?o Paulo

Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86822011000400020
Abstract: introduction: alterations in the environment contribute to changes in weather patterns, which cause an increase in rainfall, which causes flooding. flooding has been addressed by building reservoirs, called piscin?es, to contain the excess rain. in this report, we evaluated the culicidae fauna of epidemiological importance in the reservoirs of cagua?u and inhumas. methods: monthly collections were performed in both reservoirs, which are situated in the eastern section of the city of s?o paulo. monthly collections of culicidae were undertaken using the entomological scoop method and a battery aspirator during the period between march 2006 and february 2007. descriptive statistical and simple linear regression analyses of the data were carried out. results: a total of 8,917 culicidae mosquitoes were collected. the majority of the insects captured were of culex (culex) quinquefasciatus, representing 98.9% of the specimens identified in the inhumas and 95.2% of those identified in cagua?u. in the cagua?u reservoir, the greatest frequency of immature mosquitoes was observed in the spillway (61%). in the inhumas reservoir, the greatest occurrence of immature culicidae was detected in the channel (42.6%). the linear regression analysis showed that 87% of the larvae in the third and fourth stages and 60% of the pupae were collected during periods of rainfall. in the inhumas reservoir, 36% of the larvae and 18% of the pupae were collected during periods of rainfall. conclusions: culex quinquefasciatus, a vector for agents of filariasis and arbovirus diseases and a nuisance to the human population, was frequent in both environments. methods of control of the species in the studied dams are necessary to reduce their epidemiological potential.

Abstract: understanding ecological processes, especially the structural and floristic changes in natural ecosystems, is essential before conserving and/or restoring these areas. the aim of this study was to assess the changes that occurred in the woody plant community from 2003 to 2008. sixty permanent plots of 10 x 10 m were established, in which all individuals with diameter at breast height > 5 cm were sampled. a total of 1,140 ind. ha-1 were recorded in 2003 (basal area 24.35 m2 ha-1) and 1,071 ind. ha-1 in 2008 (basal area of 22.04 m2 ha-1). the recruitment (2.76% year-1) did not compensate mortality (3.95% year-1) and the basal area gain (0.54% year-1) did not exceed the loss (3.77% year-1). because of this unbalance, the half-life (17.3 years) was lower than the doubling time (29.9 years), resulting in low stability (12.6 yrs) and replacement (23.6 yrs) in relation to other seasonal forests. the parameters of community and species dynamics suggest that the forest is undergoing changes characterized mainly by the density and biomass reduction of trees, which may be related to an increase in lianas, an early rebuilding phase of the forest silvigenetic cycle or even the severe drought that occurred in the region in 2005.

Bragantia , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87051995000200012
Abstract: to estimate the tolerance of three onion (allium cepa l.) cultivars (baia periforme super precoce, granex ouro and texas grano 502 prr), cultivated under direct drilled system, to ioxynil and oxyfluorfen, and the efficiency of these herbicides in weed control a trial was installed in vi?osa, state of minas gerais, brazil. three rates of each herbicide (0.125, 0.250, 0.372 kg/ha and 0.096, 0.192, 0.288 kg/ha) were applied 27 days after drilling, in a nested factorial design with four replications. ioxynil was more selective than oxyfluorfen, specially at higher rates. the lowest rate of ioxynil did not provide effective control of most weeds present. baia periforme super precoce cultivar was more tolerant in relation to texas grano 502 prr. the susceptibility of texas grano 502 prr to oxyfluorfen was expressed by significant decreases in final onion plant population and bulb yield.

Sociedade & Natureza , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1982-45132010000100006
Abstract: the vegetation cover and water resources in cerrado must be preserved, but what we notice is that most of minas gerais' cerrado has suffered intense deforestation of its vegetation cover and increasing pollution of its water sources. therefore, this research aims to show the use of geotechnologies to the natural resources mapping of river basin paranaiba in cerrado area of minas gerais (between 16°13' - 20°12' s and 46°03' - 50°56'w), in order to assist the management and conservation of these resources. the mapping of the vegetation cover and land use shows that only 28.56% of the study area is still covered by vegetation. the index map of water quality shows that most of the verified indexes vary from medium (50

Acta Scientiarum : Agronomy , 2006,
Wild poinsettia (Euphorbia heterophylla) is one the most importantweeds in soybean fields in the state of Paraná, not only for its dissemination, but also due to its natural difficulty of controlling features by herbicides and to occurrence of resistant biotypes. Facing those problems, an evaluation of the field and greenhouse trials was carried out in order to check the efficacy of postemergencesequential application of flumicloracpentil to control this weed. Sequential applications of flumicloracpentil were more efficientthan a single application, promoting, at least, 86% of weed control on the 24th day after the second application of the sequential treatments. All the evaluated combinations of flumiclorac rates once sprayed at two true leaves stage, promoted adequate control of E. heterophylla. Comparing the greenhouse and the field results, it was concluded that, under field conditions, the canopy provided by the crop helps to improve the weed final control.
