Multiple Sequence Alignments as Tools for Protein Structure and Function Prediction
Alfonso Valencia
Comparative and Functional Genomics , 2003, DOI: 10.1002/cfg.313
Abstract: Multiple sequence alignments have much to offer to the understanding of protein structure, evolution and function. We are developing approaches to use this information in predicting protein-binding specificity, intra-protein and protein-protein interactions, and in reconstructing protein interaction networks.
DEL ANáLISIS CRíTICO DEL DISCURSO Y LAS IDEOLOGíAS
Valencia,Carlos;
Forma y Función , 2011,
Abstract: as a social practice, discourse allows for the concrete expression of the opinions and beliefs that a person or group may have regarding a fact, a situation, or another social group. this makes discourse an effective mechanism for socialization, which can be used to reproduce and endorse ideologies, understood as concepts that include a social and a subjective dimension. therefore, while values or ideals are systems of beliefs expressed in tradition, they are also cognitive structures that build individual thought and action patterns. it is precisely this subjective dimension that grants discourse greater power and symbolic efficacy, since the meaning of human experiences is determined by social interactions, which are ultimately communicative acts that take place in the symbolic world of language. thus, discourse and ideology are intimately linked.
LéXICO DEL COLOR EN SANTIAGO DE CHILE
VALENCIA,ALBA;
RLA. Revista de lingüística teórica y aplicada , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-48832010000200007
Abstract: this work attempts to ascertain the structure of the vocabulary for color terms from a sample of santiaguinos, stratified by age, gender and sociocultural level. the methodology utilized is centers of interest and calculus of the lexical availability index of the proyecto panhispánico de disponibilidad léxica. linguistic categorization for color has been examined by linguists, anthropologists, etnolinguists and psycholinguists. the present analysis utilizes the outcomes of these studies. the goal of this paper, besides the quantity and quality of the elicited color terms, is to establish the associative ressources exploited by the subjects to respond to a given stimulus.

Probing new physics with tau-leptons at the LHC
Valencia, German
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2013,
Abstract: We discuss new physics that can show up in the $\tau^+\tau^-$ production process at the LHC but not in the dimuon or the dielectron channels. We consider three different generic possibilities: a new resonance in the Drell-Yan process in the form of a non-universal $Z^\prime$; a new non-resonant contribution to $q\bar{q}\to \tau^+\tau^-$ in the form of leptoquarks; and contributions from gluon fusion due to effective lepton gluonic couplings. We emphasize the use of the charge asymmetry both to discover new physics and to distinguish between different possibilities
CP violation in top-quark pair production and decay
Valencia, German
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2013,
Abstract: As the LHC becomes a top-quark factory and enters the era of precision measurements it presents us with a unique opportunity to search for new sources of CP violation. I discuss T-odd triple product correlations and the special role they play in the search for CP violation in top physics. I motivate the searches by discussing two examples of new physics that induce these CP violating observables at the LHC.
La Misión Kemmerer y los intereses financieros británicos en Colombia durante la década de 1920
Jorge Valencia
Lecturas de Economía , 1987,
Abstract: In 1923 the Colombian government employed a norteamerican Mission to study the countries monetary, banking and fiscal matters. The Mission entrusted with this task was the Kemmerer Mission, headed by Edwin W. Kemmerer.This paper examines the Mission's results, in relation to British interests in Colombia, during the twenties. It aims to investigate if The Mission’s recommendations modify British financial interests in Colombia and, particularly, what was the British reduction to the engagement of a North American Mission? Were the existing British banks, in Colombia, affected by the changes in banking and monetary legislation, introduced as a result of this Mission? To this effect, the author analyses the main features regarding the Colombian economy, during the 1920 decade; the specific aspects of Kemmerer's proposed reform; the country's foreign debt, during this period and the diplomatic climate, which encompassed the relationships between Britain and Colombia and North America and Colombia.
