Reconfigurable Digital Circuits Based on Chip Expander with Integrated Temperature Regulation  [PDF]

This article is dealing with a development of custom chip expander platform with the possibility of accurate temperature control and integration of additional silicon-based features. Such platform may serve as a useful tool which facilitates the burdens connected with measurement and analysis tasks of experimental semiconductor structures. The devised solution provides the functionality of carrier substrate (Al2O3 compound) with CTE compatibility to the experimental silicon chip and is fully customizable with respect to a particular chip. It also allows achieving an easy fan-out of small-diameter chip terminals into a larger, more convenient area and placement of chip specimens conveniently into space-constrained chamber of the AFM microscopes, probe stations, etc. Real application of the developed chip expander platform is demonstrated in context of digital reconfigurable circuits based on polymorphic electronics. In this case the chip expander with attached polymorphic chip REPOMO is thermally stabilized at an ambient temperature level up to approximately 135C and its sensitivity to this phenomenon is demonstrated.

Abstract: This paper covers the circuit modification of the power part of the inverter with auxiliary resonant poles utilising configuration of switches realised with routinely produced IGBT modules. Covered is also the control optimisation which goal is the minimisation of switching of the auxiliary resonant pole. Presented results were gained on a prototype of an inverter laboratory sample.

Abstract: β-glucans belong to a group of biologically active natural compounds called biological response modifiers. These substances represent highly conserved structural components of cell walls in fungi, yeast, grain and seaweed. Despite almost 160 years of intensive research, the exact mechanisms of their action remain unsolved. The significant role of glucans in cancer treatment, infection immunity, stress reduction and restoration of damaged bone marrow has already been established. The present review focuses on the various less known but potentially significant roles glucans might play in medicine. In summary, glucan might represent the most important natural immunomodulator.

Abstract: The paper deals with sti systems of dierential equa-tions. To solve this sort of system numerically is a diulttask. In spite of the fact that we come across sti systemsquite often in the common practice, a very interesting andpromissing numerical method of solving systems of ordi-nary dierential equations (ODE) based on Taylor serieshas appeared. The question was how to harness the said"Modern Taylor Series Method" (MTSM) for solving ofsti systems.The potential of the Taylor series has been exposed bymany practical experiments and a way of detection andexplicit solution of large systems of ODE has been found.Detailed analysis of stability and convergence of explicitand implicit Taylor series is presented and a new algo-rithm using implicit Taylor series based on recurrent cal-culation of Taylor series terms and Newton iteration me-thod (ITMRN) is described. The new method reducingstiness in system based on nding new equivalent systemof ODE without stiness" is introduced.
Procathepsin D in cancer development

Abstract: Over thirty years of research showed that procathepsin D is overexpressed and secreted by cells of several tumor types including lung, breast and prostate cancer. After secretion, it exhibits growth factor –like mitogenic activity. Subsequent in vivo and in vitro studies strongly support the hypothesis that the mitogenic effects are mediated via its activation peptide. Another potential cancer-related role of procathepsin D is the effect on resistance of cancer cell to chemotherapeutic drugs. The purpose of this review is to summarize the two major roles of procathepsin D in cancer development.
Efficient Evaluation of Multiple-Output Boolean Functions in Embedded Software or Firmware

Abstract: The paper addresses software and firmware implementation of multiple-output Boolean functions based on cascades of Look-Up Tables (LUTs). A LUT cascade is described as a means of compact representation of a large class of sparse Boolean functions, evaluation of which then reduces to multiple indirect memory accesses. The method is compared to a technique of direct PLA emulation and is illustrated on examples. A specialized micro-engine is proposed for even faster evaluation than is possible with universal microprocessors. The presented method is flexible in making trade-offs between performance and memory footprint and may be useful for embedded applications where the processing speed is not critical. Evaluation may run on various CPUs and DSP cores or slightly faster on FPGA-based micro-programmed controllers.
Possible use of fuzzy logic in database

Failure of Fermi-Liquid Theory at Strong Coupling

Abstract: We investigate quantitatively the effects of strong electron-electron coupling onto the dynamics of lattice electrons. To that purpose the self-consistent version of the bubble-chain approximation at zero temperature and half filling of the Anderson (Hubbard) model is used. Special attention is paid to a critical region of an electron-hole correlation function shaping the transition from weak to strong interaction. We find an analytic solution with Fermi-liquid properties on the weak-coupling side of the critical region around the two-particle pole. It is shown that Fermi-liquid theory does not lead to a consistent behavior of the self-consistent solution on the strong-coupling side of the critical region.

Abstract: Single-band Hubbard model at criticality of the metal-insulator transition is studied using approximations derived from parquet theory. It is argued that only the electron-hole and interaction two-particle channels in the parquet algebra are relevant. A scheme is proposed how to reduce the parquet equations to a manageable form the complexity of which is comparable with single-channel approximations such as the renormalized RPA. The newly derived approximation, however, contains dynamical vertex corrections, remains self-consistent at the two-particle level and allows only for integrable singularities. A qualitatively new approach for studying two-particle singularities at zero temperature is obtained.
