Alimentos e Nutri??o , 2009,
Adherence and perceptions regarding simulation training in undergraduate health Sciences
Elias, Fernando Perpétuo;Schmidt, André;Pazin-Filho, Antonio;
Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Médica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-55022010000400010
Abstract: background: simulation techniques are spreading rapidly in medicine. suc h resources are increasingly concentrated in simulation laboratories. the msrp-usp is structuring such a laboratory and is interested in the prevalence of individual initiatives that could be centralized there. the msrp-usp currently has five full-curriculum courses in the health sciences: medicine, speech therapy, physical therapy, nutrition, and occupational therapy, all consisting of core disciplines. goal: to determine the prevalence of simulation techniques in the regular courses at msrp-usp. methods: coordinators of disciplines in the various courses were interviewed using a specifically designed semi-structured questionnaire, and all the collected data were stored in a dedicated database. the disciplines were grouped according to whether they used (gi) or did not use (gii) simulation resources. results and discussion: 256 disciplines were analyzed, of which only 18.3% used simulation techniques, varying according to course: medicine (24.7.3%), occupational therapy (23.0%), nutrition (15.9%), physical therapy (9.8%), and speech therapy (9.1%). computer simulation programs predominated (42.5%) in all five courses. the resources were provided mainly by msrp-usp (56.3%), with additional funding coming from other sources based on individual initiatives. the same pattern was observed for maintenance. there was great interest in centralizing the resources in the new simulation laboratory in order to facilitate maintenance, but there was concern about training and access to the material. conclusions: 1) the msrp-usp simulation resources show low complexity and are mainly limited to computer programs; 2) use of simulation varies according to course, and is most prevalent in medicine; 3) resources are scattered across several locations, and their acquisition and maintenance depend on individual initiatives rather than central coordination or curricular guidelines

The objective of this study was to evaluate heterosis, heterobeltiosis and standard heterosis for eight characteristics of irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.) hybrids derivated from crosses among two A lines and 17 restorers lines. Field trials were conducted in Goinira, Goiás, Brazil. The experimental design was a completely randomized block with three replications. Results indicate a wide genetic divergence for grain yield on the restorers lines. All hybrids showed positive heterosis for grain yield and those presenting the highest values also demonstrated positive heterosis for different yield components. These data indicate that grain yield heterosis is a result of the interaction among heterosis observed for yield components. For tillers and panicles per square meter, the positive and negative values observed were similar in number and magnitude, for the three types of heterosis studied. Panicle length and 100 grain weight were the traits that contributed the most to yield heterosis. All hybrids presented shorter growth duration than the parents. Since the parents had short stature, plant height was not significantly changed in the hybrid offspring. Hybridizat

Abstract: Our aim was to assess serum OPG and soluble RANKL (sRANKL) levels as well as sRANKL/OPG ratio in female SLE patients and compare it with female controls.We have evaluated 103 SLE patients and 114 healthy controls, all Caucasian females. All participants underwent a clinical and laboratory evaluation. sRANKL and OPG were quantified in serum by ELISA based methods. sRANKL, OPG and sRANKL/OPG ratio levels were compared between SLE patients and age, sex and race matched healthy controls. For SLE patients, a multivariate analysis was performed, to find the possible predictors of the changes in sRANKL, OPG and sRANKL/OPG ratio levels.Although sRANKL levels did not differ between the two groups, serum OPG was lower in SLE patients (P < 0.001). This led to an increased sRANKL/OPG ratio (P = 0.010) in the patients' group.The multivariate analysis was performed considering age and other clinical and laboratorial potential confounders for these variations in the SLE patients group. We have showed that age (P = 0.001) and levels of anti-Sm antibodies (P = 0.016) were independent predictors of sRANKL/OPG ratio variations in SLE patients. No relationship with therapy or disease activity measured by SLEDAI2K was found.These results are suggestive of increased osteoclastic stimuli driven by the SLE disease mechanisms.Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, multisystemic disease of unknown etiology characterized by chronic inflammation and damage to various organs and systems due to the production of autoreactive cells and antibodies [1-3].SLE patients have lower bone mineral density (BMD) when compared with healthy individuals and are at increased risk of fracture [4-7]. Although corticosteroid exposure is a major contributor to bone loss in SLE [4,5,8]. disease activity and associated co-morbidities may contribute to this process [5,8]. In addition, vitamin D deficiency is a common finding among SLE patients, further contributing to impaired bone health [5].Bone remodelin

Abstract: to evaluate the short period climatic variations impact over amazonic mangrove ecosystem, studies were carried out on the northeast coast of para state. sediments, surficial and interstitial waters were collected and examinated throughout salinity, ph and eh (mv) measurements; mineralogical determination using x-ray diffraction and electronic microscopy. chemical analysis of dissolved sulfides, sulfate and chloride, among others were made in samples collected seasonally, under spring and neap tides conditions. the seasonal chloride variations in the interstitial waters shows 20 g/l during the dry season and less of 10 g/l in the season; the concentration in surficial are higher at neap tides (rainy season) and spring tide (dry season). the dissolved sulfides were found only at 10 cm, indicating sediment exposure to the atmospheric oxygen advectives fluxes. the dissolved iron rates increases between 0-10 cm and the ph tends to neutrality. the saturation of interstitial waters at dry season is indicated by evaporitic minerals: gypsum and halite. the pluviometric variations are responsible by gradual changes in the nutrient and physical chemical properties of surficial and interstitial waters, into the saline equilibrium control at coastal waters, in the salinization and desalinization of sediments and the distribution of mangrove vegetation at the estuary. the prolonged exposure of sediments during the dry season and the morphological characteristics contribute to the total or partial oxidation of surficial sediments, modifying the mineralogy of sediments and the physical chemical characteristics of interstitial waters.
