Abstract: we describe different methods to prepare postmortem human or animal eyes used at the center for research in ocular therapeutics and biodevices at the storm eye institute, medical university of south carolina, charleston, sc, usa. these techniques have been utilized for performing different surgical procedures (phacoemulsification, extracapsular cataract extraction, etc.), and for training of surgeons in-transition. performing these techniques in the wet-laboratory contributed to improve surgical skills to perform the critical steps of the phacoemulsification surgery. pathological evaluation of pseudophakic postmortem human eyes using the miyake-apple posterior view and histology was helpful to analyze postoperative complications of cataract surgery (anterior capsule opacification and posterior capsule opacification) secondary to postoperative proliferation of lens epithelial cells into the capsular bag. modifications in the surgical techniques and/or lens design may be helpful to reduce these postoperative complications. implantation of various aphakic and phakic intraocular lenses in postmortem human eyes as well as animal eyes was helpful to analyze the sizing and fitting of new lens designs within the eye.

Abstract: this research suggests a contribution in the implementation of forecasting models. the proposed model is developed with the aim to fit the projection of demand to surroundings of firms, and this is based on three considerations that cause that in many cases the forecasts of the demand are different from reality, such as: 1) one of the problems most difficult to model in the forecasts is the uncertainty related to the information available; 2) the methods traditionally used by firms for the projection of demand mainly are based on past behavior of the market (historical demand); and 3) these methods do not consider in their analysis the factors that are influencing so that the observed behaviour occurs. therefore, the proposed model is based on the implementation of fuzzy logic, integrating the main variables that affect the behavior of market demand, and which are not considered in the classical statistical methods. the model was applied to a bottling of carbonated beverages, and with the adjustment of the projection of demand a more reliable forecast was obtained.

Revista Colombiana de Reumatología , 2009,
Abstract: the idiopathic inflammatory myopathies are the largest group of acquired myopathies. on the basis of clinical, histopathological, immunological and demographic features, they can be differentiated into three distinct subsets: dermatomyositis, polymyositis and inclusion-body myositis. pulmonary involvement is increasingly recognized to be a serious complication and a common cause of morbidity and mortality in these diseases. there are three categories of pulmonary complications in inflammatory myositis: aspiration pneumonia, hypoventilation, and interstitial lung disease. respiratory failure caused by hypoventilation is considered to be an uncommon complication of inflammatory myositis which occurs in patients with severe generalized muscle weakness and inflammation of inspiratory and expiratory respiratory muscles. diaphragm weakness is frequent and probably overlooked in inflammatory myopathies. we report the case of a woman with inflammatory myopathy in whom the findings of the diaphragm muscles electromyography demonstrated inflammatory involvement of this muscle.

Abstract: in the present study, seasonal variation in ovulatory activity of nubian, alpine and criollo x nubian goats in the semiarid region of central-northern mexico (22° 14' n) was examined. the study was conducted under natural photoperiod and climate conditions during a whole year. eight female goats per breed were grouped separately and exposed to visual, olfactory and audible signals of bucks. blood samples were obtained twice per week and serum progesterone concentrations were determined. all goats presented a clear pattern of seasonal ovulatory activity based on serum progesterone profiles. length of the ovulatory activity period did not differ between genotypes (p >0.10), and had an average duration of 4.3 months. nevertheless criollo x nubian goats presented greater individual variation in dates of onset and end as well as length of this period (p <0.05). results indicate that female goats of genotypes which differ in latitude of origin, express a similar restricted pattern of seasonal ovulatory activity when subjected to small annual changes in phtoperiod, adequate nutrition and incomplete socio-sexual stimulus.
ANáLISIS DEL COMPORTAMIENTO DE COMPRA EN UN CONTEXTO EXPERIMENTAL SIMULADO
Echeverry Gómez,Iván; Sandoval Escobar,Marithza;
BUYING BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS IN A SIMULATED EXPERIMENTAL CONTEXT
Iván Echeverry Gómez,Marithza Sandoval Escobar
Suma Psicológica , 2011,
Abstract: The aim of this study was to identify the effects of the consumption scenario(Foxall, 2007) and the level of informational reinforcement (Foxall, 2005) on theprobability of buying behavior. The study involved 56 people between 18 to 20years of age selected through intentional sampling. We designed a web applicationthat emulated conditions of purchase in a virtual store. Functional analysiswas performed using a logit model of LR (logistic regression) to calculate individualand group effects of independient variables. Results indicate that there aresignificant differences in predictions performed with bivariate and multivariatelogit models of the effects of consumption scenario and informational reinforcementon the probability of buying behavior. These effects can be interpreted in thecontext of an operant perspective of symbolic behavior.
MONJAS Y MAESTRAS EN MEDELLíN 1920-1957: DOS FORMAS DE MATERNIDAD
Bibiana Escobar García,Juan Felipe Garcés Gómez
Ratio Juris , 2012,

Gómez V.,Mauricio;
Innovar , 2004,
Abstract: international business organisation accounting regulation has been directed from an approach which should be evaluated in the light of accounting and control theory. various criteria adopted in such regulation allow implementing objectives and functions for financial information in markets straying from subsequent and indispensable organisational financial accounting ends, such as productivity. this is problematic, due to financial accounting being the structural basis for a company?s technical-instrumental rationality and is the backbone of other accounting and control systems such as costs and budgets. control processes and logic making the financial accounting system viable are thus displaced in a regulatory approach, implying adopting a weak conception and structure of corporate government. this document approaches such questions contrasting the international regulatory approach?s strengths and weaknesses from the conceptual basis of the financial accounting subsystem.
