Response of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) to Water Stress and Phosphorus Fertilization

Abstract: This study was conducted in the experimental college of agriculture and forestry, in Maputo-Mozambique, in order to evaluate the response of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp.) to irrigation and phosphorus and test the hypothesis that high levels of phosphorus improves the tolerance of plants to water stress. We used a variety IT 18 of cowpea, short cycle and ended. The experiment was subdivided into building plots complete block design with five repetitions, the irrigation factor was fixed at the main plot with two levels (with irrigation and without irrigation) and phosphorus factor in sub-plots with 3 levels (0, 20 and 40 kg ha-1 of phosphorus). The fertilization strongly influenced the yield and the number of pods per plant in both irrigation conditions. The effect of fertilizing phosphorus was higher under irrigation. The interaction was significant only for grain yield and number of pods, which means that the effect of phosphorus in these two variables has not been the same for the two levels of irrigation, high levels of phosphate fertilizer (P2O5) have improved the tolerance of cowpea when not irrigated.
Sound Wave as a Particular Case of the Gravitational Wave  [PDF]

Abstract: It is demonstrated that the universally accepted system of gas-dynamic (hydrodynamic) equations is applicable only to homogeneous (isentropic) media and requires advancement to get applicable to non-homogeneous media. A generalized equation of gravitational wave for adiabatic and ideal media is obtained from advanced system. From this equation, in turn, is obtained an equation of acoustic wave, which is plane and different form the known equation in that the phase speed of the wave in the Earth atmosphere obviously depends on altitude, i.e. C = C (z, T) instead of accepted C = C (T). Thus, acoustic wave is a short-period gravitational wave in which gravitational effects are revealed at altitudes z > 2.3 × 103 m, which leads to amplification of refraction of sound. The sphere of applicability of the equation is determined and it is demonstrated that it is true only up to the upper boundary of the troposphere ( z ≤ 11 - 12km.) above which anomalous processes develop in the atmosphere.
Exploration of the Connection Between Porcine Necrotic Ear Syndrome and PCV2 Infection

Abstract: This study provides an overview of current knowledge relating to porcine necrotic ear syndrome (or ear tip necrosis) associated with PCV2 infection. It is believed that Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2) may be involved in etiology of porcine necrotic ear syndrome. PCV2 is the primary causative agent for Porcine Circovirus Associated Diseases (PCVAD). In cases when clinical signs of PCVAD (mainly PMWS) are present on a farm, the porcine necrotic ear syndrome is more often. Initially, the lesions of ear tip necrosis appeared at the margin of the pinna(e) as a superficial vesicular dermatitis associated with superficial auricular trauma. These lesions are characterized by systemic necrotizing vasculitis accompanied by epidermal necrosis/ulceration and dermal haemorrhage. The purpose of this study is to investigate the connection between clinical signs of porcine necrotic ear syndrome and of PCV2.
Evaluation of Sow Longevity in a PRRSV Infected Swine Herd after the Use of an Inactivated PRRSV Vaccine

Abstract: In PRRSV-infected farms occurs increase of female culling rate, mainly due to reproductive problems and culling of young females. This has significant economic importance as the low female culling rate is an important management factor. In the present study in a farrow-to-finish farm with 1,100 sows, all gilts and sows were vaccinated with a PRRS-inactivated vaccine PROGRESSIS /Merial SAS, France) for a period of 18 months. For each gilt and sow, reproductive data were collected starting from 1 year prior until 18 months after the start of vaccination. Culling rate and the causes of culling (reproductive failure, death, old age, locomotor problems and other) were recorded. Blood samples from non-vaccinated animals were collected prior and after the start of vaccination. The purpose of this field study was to evaluate the sow longevity in a PRRSV-infected farm after their long-term vaccination with an inactivated PRRSV vaccine. The results indicated that the vaccination lead to a significant reduction (p<0.001) of culling rate due to reproductive failure 1.5 years after the start of vaccination and an increase of old age (sows with completion of 8 reproductive cycles) (p<0.001) totally 1.5 years after the start of vaccination. Eventually, culling rates due to deaths (p = 0.066), locomotor problems (p = 0.264) and other causes (p = 0.894) did not significant differ per semester and totally prior and after the start of vaccination. In conclusion, the long-term vaccination of breeding stock with an inactivated PRRSV vaccine can lead to decrease of culling rate due to reproductive failure and improvement of the sow longevity.

Abstract: The migration of a grain boundary system with ridges of the first order is studied. A theory of steady-state motion of a grain boundary (GB) half-loop with facets and ridges is presented. The shape and properties of a moving grain boundary which contains additional structural elements (curved segments, facets and ridges of first order) are addressed. The major kinetic parameters (mobility and its activation enthalpy) of the “high-temperature” and “low-temperature” grain boundary ridge of first order with curved segments were measured.

Abstract: Basic causes of failures on objects of economy are recognized: poor quality of design and ex-ploration, building and construction works and work on operation of buildings and constructions. The risk magnitude including the expectation value of the damage in relation to cost of object’s building is accepted as the criterion function of the object’s safety. The analysis of approach concerning safety of economy’s objects which is taking into account the factors forming criterion function is given. Limit-ing deformations which are the border of the risk are accepted as critical parameters of the object’s condition. / Основными причинами аварий на объектах экономики приняты: низкое качество проект-но-изыскательских, строительных работ и работы по эксплуатации зданий и сооружений. За целевую функцию обеспечения безопасности объектов принята величина риска, включающая математическое ожидание ущерба по отношению к стоимости строительства объекта. Дан анализ подхода к обеспечению безопасности объектов экономики с учетом факторов, форми-рующих целевую функцию. В качестве критических параметров состояния объектов приняты предельные деформации, являющиеся границей риска.
