Innovar , 2008,
Abstract: the present article was aimed at going deeper into the concept of perceived value. by adopting a multidimensional structure we tried to contrast which of the two models (reflexive or formative) best suited the concept of perceived value. we also analysed whether the concepts obtained from the reflexive and formative scales were equivalent and, therefore, whether there were significant differences between them. the segment consisting of industrial clients for electricity and natural gas in the spanish liberalised energy market was subjected to empirical analysis.

Cuadernos de Gestión , 2001,
Abstract: An important issue was raised for discussion trough the last decade regarding the meaning of brand equity. Different forms of analysis and estimation criteria have been applied, and that is the reason for the current ambiguity on its meaning. In this article, we present a theoretical frame were several forms of study and criteria for brand equity estimation are empirically analysed. Using six different brands of training shoes, seven estimation variables are empirically analysed in accordance with the opinions given by a sample of users for these different brands. By means of this analysis, it is our aim to contribute to a better knowledge on he concept of brand equity.

Abstract: The jumbo squid Dosidicus gigas plays an important role in marine food webs both as predator and prey. We investigated the ontogenetic and spatiotemporal variability of the diet composition of jumbo squid in the northern Humboldt Current system. For that purpose we applied several statistical methods to an extensive dataset of 3,618 jumbo squid non empty stomachs collected off Peru from 2004 to 2011. A total of 55 prey taxa was identified that we aggregated into eleven groups. Our results evidenced a large variability in prey composition as already observed in other systems. However, our data do not support the hypothesis that jumbo squids select the most abundant or energetic taxon in a prey assemblage, neglecting the other available prey. Indeed, multinomial model predictions showed that stomach fullness increased with the number of prey taxa, while most stomachs with low contents contained one or two prey taxa only. Our results therefore question the common hypothesis that predators seek locally dense aggregations of monospecific prey. In addition D. gigas consumes very few anchovy Engraulis ringens in Peru, whereas a tremendous biomass of anchovy is potentially available. It seems that D. gigas cannot reach the oxygen unsaturated waters very close to the coast, where the bulk of anchovy occurs. Indeed, even if jumbo squid can forage in hypoxic deep waters during the day, surface normoxic waters are then required to recover its maintenance respiration (or energy?). Oxygen concentration could thus limit the co-occurrence of both species and then preclude predator-prey interactions. Finally we propose a conceptual model illustrating the opportunistic foraging behaviour of jumbo squid impacted by ontogenetic migration and potentially constrained by oxygen saturation in surface waters.

Medicina Oral, Patología Oral y Cirugía Bucal (Internet) , 2006,
Abstract: the lichen planus is a mucocutaneous disease with unknown etiology and auto-immune pathogenia. there have been three variants of lichen planus: the reticular, the plaque-like and the atrophic-erosive lesions. it?s a chronic disease with acute relapses that generally affects more frecuently to women from the fourties. the diagnostic is based on the clinic identification of the lesions joined with the histopathologic study (basal cells hidropic degeneration, linfoplasmocitic infiltration and absence of displasy signs). the great number of therapeutic options are explained for its high prevalency (0.5-2%), its recurrence and its risk for malignant transformation. we present a case of oral erosive lichen planus, refractory to numerous treatments, mainly corticosteroids. during 15 days the lesion responded to the administration of a 0.1% tacrolimus in topic application. this article tries to show the new indication of tacrolimus, a calcineurin inhibitor immunosuppressor, that it is effective in the erosive lesions treatment.
Fractal metrology for biogeosystems analysis

Abstract: The solid-pore distribution pattern plays an important role in soil functioning being related with the main physical, chemical and biological multiscale and multitemporal processes. In the present research, this pattern is extracted from the digital images of three soils (Chernozem, Solonetz and "Chocolate'' Clay) and compared in terms of roughness of the gray-intensity distribution (the measurand) quantified by several measurement techniques. Special attention was paid to the uncertainty of each of them and to the measurement function which best fits to the experimental results. Some of the applied techniques are known as classical in the fractal context (box-counting, rescaling-range and wavelets analyses, etc.) while the others have been recently developed by our Group. The combination of all these techniques, coming from Fractal Geometry, Metrology, Informatics, Probability Theory and Statistics is termed in this paper Fractal Metrology (FM). We show the usefulness of FM through a case study of soil physical and chemical degradation applying the selected toolbox to describe and compare the main structural attributes of three porous media with contrasting structure but similar clay mineralogy dominated by montmorillonites.

ABOUT THE INTEGRATION OF B-LEARNING IN EPP TO REINFORCE LEARNER AUTONOMY
Irina Argüelles álvarez
Revista de Lingüística y Lenguas Aplicadas , 2009, DOI: 10.4995/rlyla.2009.730
Abstract: This article builds on one particular initiative that has been developed for over a year and brings blearning to the English for Professional Purposes classroom within a learner-centred context. The first section is dedicated to the description of the conditions that have framed the experience. Then the steps taken to adapt the materials of the subject "Professional Communication" to the b-learning environment MOODLE are addressed. This part also examines the evolution of the subject towards autonomous language learning goals and a negotiated syllabus design more suitable for b-learning. The third part of the paper outlines the results from the actual learning in the virtual environment of a pilot group of students. Qualitative data concerning the benefits of MOODLE within an autonomous learning context are presented. To conclude, it is suggested that prior analysis of each particular teaching situation is very important to decide whether MOODLE will in fact fulfil previous expectations.
The double helix revisited: a paradox of science and a paradigm of human behaviour
Abstract: In the modern history of Science, few breakthroughs have caused an impact comparative to the Double Helix, the three-dimensional structure of DNA proposed by Watson & Crick in 1953, an event whose 50th anniversary was widely celebrated in the non-specialist media, three years ago. Although the discovery had little transcendence at the time, it has unquestionably been of great importance ever since. The Double Helix has underlined the true biological value of nucleic acids compared with proteins, demonstrating that genes are not amorphous entities but have a specific chemical composition and adopt an ordered spatial folding pattern. Elucidation of this key configuration made it possible to establish a direct relationship between the structure and the function of macromolecules, a relationship which is not so clear in the case of proteins. During these last fifty years much has been written and argued about the circumstances surrounding the discovery and about the behaviour and attitudes of many of the protagonists. Besides Watson & Crick, other scientists, whose contribution has not been adequately recognised, played an important part in solving the Double Helix mystery. This article contains some ethical and scientific reflections which revise some of these essential contributions and throws light on the role played in history by these comparatively unknown soldiers of science. The Double Helix story is undoubtedly a manifestation of the human side of science and many scientists believe that the available evidence taken as a whole permits an alternative story to be written.
