Anais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0001-37652012005000019
Abstract: microfossils present in quaternary micrites from serra da bodoquena, mato grosso do sul state, brazil, are here described for the first time. the studied taxa are: a) ostracods: candona sp., candonopsis sp., cyclocypris sp., cypria sp., cypridopsis sp., notodromas sp., ilyocypris sp., cyprideis sp., wolburgiopsis cf. chinamuertensis (musacchio 1970), darwinula sp. and 5 morphotypes; b) microgastropod acrobis sp., and c) characeae remains and gyrogonites chara sp.. the presence of these microfossils suggests clear-water shallow lacustrine paleoenvironments and the presence of aquatic vegetation. similarities between microfossils and the living taxa suggest possible holocene ages for these deposits, which is in accordance with previous c14 dates.
Male infertility in spinal cord trauma

Abstract: every year there are 10 thousand new cases of patients victimized by spinal cord trauma (sct) in the united states and it is estimated that there are 7 thousand new cases in brazil. eighty percent of patients are fertile males. infertility in this patient group is due to 3 main factors resulting from spinal cord lesions: erectile dysfunction, ejaculatory disorder and low sperm counts. erectile dysfunction has been successfully treated with oral and injectable medications, use of vacuum devices and penile prosthesis implants. the technological improvement in penile vibratory stimulation devices (pvs) and rectal probe electro-ejaculation (rpe) has made such procedures safer and accessible to patients with ejaculatory dysfunction. despite the normal number of spermatozoa found in semen of spinal cord-injured patients, their motility is abnormal. this change does not seem to be related to changes in scrotal thermal regulation, frequency of ejaculation or duration of spinal cord damage but to factors related to the seminal plasma. despite the poor seminal quality, increasingly more men with sct have become fathers through techniques ranging from simple homologous insemination to sophisticated assisted reproduction techniques such as intracytoplasmic sperm injection (icsi).

ECCOM , 2010,
Abstract: This article aims to apply the concept of storytelling, defined by author Christian Salmon as a kind of narrative format that seeks thoughts and will power and profit of the person uses. Relate this concept to the advertising company Natura, is used as a corpus analysis of three advertisements of the company, which were conveyed in different media means. Our objective was to demonstrate the existence of storytelling in all ads analyzed.

Abstract: For water to become suitable for human consumption in most water treatment plants this occurs by making use of the chlorination process where the organic matter is destroyed by the action of chlorine. Chlorine is a disinfectant that at low concentrations meets requirements such as not being toxic to humans and inactivating microorganisms. The reaction of chlorine with organic compounds results in chlorination byproducts, many potentially harmful to human health, such as trihalomethanes, haloacetic acids, among others. The present work aimed to collect and analyze samples of treated water from reservoirs from public schools in the city of Maringá, Brazil. Analyses of haloacetic acids (HAA5: monochloroacetic acid, dichloroacetic acid, trichloroacetic acid, bromoacetic acid and dibromoacetic acid), natural organic compounds and free residual chlorine were performed (the latter analysis, in loco). The water collection points were chosen in order to maximize the concentration of haloacetic acids that characterize network distant points from treatment station and also samples near the water treatment plant. With the results, the formation of haloacetic acids between the entrance water of the school and the water of the reservoir of the collection points were compared, where higher values were obtained in the reservoirs. Furthermore, the haloacetic acid levels of water supplied to the population close to the treatment station and distant points of the treatment station were compared, resulting in larger values at the distant points. The value of 0.170 mg/L in haloacetic acid (the maximum value allowed by the legislation is 0.080 mg/L) was obtained at a point distant in the network from the treatment plant. The Consolidation Ordinance n.5/2017, current legislation for treated water in Brazil, was used in relation to the maximum allowable values for free residual chlorine and haloacetic acids.

Abstract: the authors report a case of nasal furuncle that progressed to septic bilateral and asymmetric thrombosis of cavernous, transverse, sigmoid sinus and internal jugular vein, associated with bacterial meningitis, in a previously healthy patient. in spite of the extensive thrombosis, the patient presented a good evolution, after an aggressive clinical treatment with antibiotics, corticosteroids and anticoagulants. however, there remained paresis of the vi nerve on the left and partial lesion of the homolateral optic nerve.
