American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2014.49054
Abstract: This study was carried out to ascertain the “Oro” traditional communication system and modes employed in conflicts resolution. Interviewing key persons, considered in the opinion of these researchers to be custodians of the culture of “Oro” people and thus acknowledgeable in the traditional trends, as well as prominent indigenes of the area, was considered an appropriate instrument for gathering data. In addition, a lot of secondary data were consulted to establish a common link between the past, present and what constitutes “Traditional Communication System” among a people. It was discovered that the communicative significance of the eight (8) selected modes— Ogbin, Olughu, Oduk Eni, Ndo, Nkang, Obio Utong, Mmong and Ukpong—were still credible and efficacious in transmitting important and strategic messages to the “Oro” people. Ogbin, for instance, still serves as an injunction and is effective in restraining parties in a conflict. Olughu is still employed to establish truth in maters in serious contention, though sparingly due to its dire consequences. The younger generations are not well versed in traditional communication symbols but still adhere when so informed. Therefore, this study espouses trado-modern system of communication to meet the demand of information dissemination retrieval as a critical resource in 21st century.

Open Journal of Safety Science and Technology (OJSST) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojsst.2015.53009
Abstract: Over the years, issues on safety culture and policies in maritime industry have received widespread research attention. Some maritime firms have even gone further to anchor their safety policies on learned corporate culture. However, whether these policies are fully embraced and complied with by seamen is a different kettle of fish altogether. This study therefore, examines safety culture, policies and practices in Nigerian maritime industry with a view to ascertaining: the extent of freight men’ awareness and compliance to safety policies, identifying hindrances to conformity with safety policies and practices, and determining intervention options that management of Exxon-Mobil could use to foster safety compliance. The study adopts a survey approach, with structured questionnaire, and gathering primary data from seamen onboard. The findings reveal that workers are aware of the various safety policies and practices put in place by management, but adherence is impeded by several factors-inadequate staff strength, crew fatigue, and poor wages. Others include contract labour, inadequate safety training, complacency, and high risk tolerance. Surprisingly, improper handover and supervisory interference were not potent enough to hinder compliance with safety regulations at sea.

Agricultural Journal , 2013, DOI: 10.3923/aj.2012.374.381
Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyze palm oil prices in Ini local government area of Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. In consideration of palm oil price stability, trend analysis, seasonality, cyclical and irregular elements of price volatility was determined. Data were obtained through structured questionnaires administered to 160 randomly selected palm oil marketers. The Time Series Model, measurement of instability factor and index of dynamic price analysis was used. The result revealed that the instability factor was 0.097% and index dynamic price was 58.49% which shows that palm oil prices were relatively stable during the time of study. The study concluded that there was no incentive to store palm oil as prices are relatively constant over time. Therefore, the study recommended that the marketers should not store palm oil for future sales rather marketers should speculate palm oil trading through prices differential by geographical market locations and not by time difference.

Higher Education Studies , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/hes.v1n2p121
Abstract: This study was embarked upon with a view to examining the need for peace in the management of tertiary institutions towards enhancing academic performance in south-south Nigeria. Three hypotheses and one research question guided the study. One thousand, two hundred and nineteen (1219) academic and non-academic staff were selected for the study. A 31 item researcher developed questionnaire was used to collect data from the sampled staff in their respective institutions. Population t-test and mean scores were used to analyze data collected. Findings show that peace was advocated but there were serious inadequacies in the implementation and enforcement process of peace. Proposed peace was scarcely enforced to the detriment of academic performance. The manner and approach to existing peace management does not actually address the issue of peace building. Based on the findings, recommendations were made which included among others, that conflict resolution and peace education courses should be introduced in the school curriculum.

Abstract: Introduction: A study on the current status of parasitic intestinal helminthes and the efficacy of anthelmintic drug was carried out among primary school pupils at Community Primary School Ogurugu, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State. Objectives: The research was conducted in order to determine the prevalence of human intestinal helminthes among primary school pupils, and also to determine the prevalence in relation to age and sex, and to check the efficacy of anthelmintic drug (Levamisole) on the worms, in Ogurugu Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area, Enugu State, Nigeria. Methods: A total of 242 faecal samples were collected randomly from the school children and analyzed using standard parasitological procedures. Results: Data obtained showed an overall prevalence of 143 (59.1%) out of 242 samples and that the efficacy of anthelmintic drug Ergamisole? (Levamisole R12564; Unicure Pvt.ltd India) 50 mg in reducing the worm burden was 99 (82.5%) in 120 samples treated. Age related prevalence and efficacy of anthelmintic varied across the sample groups. There was no significant difference in sex related infections in the sample group (P > 0.5). The efficacy of the drug reduces with the increase in age. Also the efficacy of Levamisole drug in reducing the worm burden were hookworm 59 (89.5%), Ascaris 24 (85.7%), Trichuris 26 (78.6%) while Taenia and Strongyloides showed drug resistance. This indicates that a single dose of the medication is not enough for total elimination of these endo parasites. Conclusion: The study revealed that poor hygienic practices as well as unsanitary conditions were responsible for high prevalence recorded in the area, and advocated health education through primary health care and mass deworming of primary school children as control measures.

Applied Physics Research , 2011, DOI: 10.5539/apr.v3n1p47
Abstract: The thermodynamics properties of a quantum harmonic oscillator and four level oscillator systems are evaluated. These results lead to the exact value for the entropy of the system which corresponds to the second law of thermodynamics. We also show the numerical results for the harmonic and four level oscillators and it is in good agreement with the one obtained before in the literature.
