Prognostic significance of Cdx2 immunohistochemical expression in gastric cancer: a meta-analysis of published literatures

Abstract: Cdx2 is a homeobox domain-containing transcription factor that is important in the development and differentiation of the intestinal cells, and served as a potential biomarker of tumor progression in early intestinal-type gastric cancer. However, its prognostic value and significance in gastric cancer remain controversial. A meta-analysis based on published studies was performed to obtain an accurate evaluation of the association between the presence of Cdx2-positive in clinical samples and clinical outcome. A total of 13 eligible retrospective cohort studies with 1513 patients were included. Cdx2-positive cases were significantly associated with higher male-to-female ratio (RR=1.27, 95% CI: 1.17–1.38, P<0.00001 fixed-effect), lower (I+II) clinical stage (RR=1.63, 95% CI: 1.42–1.87, P<0.00001 fixed-effect), better histologic differentiation (RR=1.54, 95% CI: 1.34-1.76, P<0.00001 fixed-effect), and lower rate of vascular invasion (RR=1.23, 95% CI: 1.08-1.41, P=0.002 fixed-effect) and lymph node metastasis (RR=1.52, 95% CI: 1.33-1.73, P<0.00001 fixed-effect), as well as higher 5-year survival rate (HR=2.22, 95% CI: 1.78-2.75, P<0.00001 fixed-effect). However, the presence of Cdx2 was not associated with tumor size. In summary, Cdx2 is a prognostic factor in gastric cancer, which acts as a marker of good outcome in patients with gastric cancer. Further clinical studies are needed to confirm the role of Cdx2 in clinical practice.

Abstract: Atoms and molecules are important conceptual entities we invented to understand the physical world around us. The key to their usefulness lies in the organization of nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom into a single dynamical variable whose time evolution we can better imagine. The use of such effective variables in place of the true microscopic variables is possible because of the separation between nuclear/electronic and atomic/molecular time scales. Where separation of time scales occurs, identification of analogous objects in financial markets can help advance our understanding of their dynamics. To detect separated time scales and identify their associated effective degrees of freedom in financial markets, we devised a two-stage statistical clustering scheme to analyze the price movements of stocks in several equity markets. Through this two-time-scale clustering analysis, we discovered a hierarchy of levels of self-organization in real financial markets. We call these statistically robust self-organized dynamical structures financial atoms, financial molecules, and financial supermolecules. In general, the detailed compositions of these dynamical structures cannot be deduced based on raw financial intuition alone, and must be explained in terms of the underlying portfolios, and investment strategies of market players. More interestingly, we find that major market events such as the Chinese Correction and the Subprime Crisis leave many tell-tale signs within the correlational structures of financial molecules.
Serum levels of preS antigen (HBpreSAg) in chronic hepatitis B virus infected patients

Abstract: A new assay of double antibody sandwich ELISA was established to detect preS antigens. Sera of 104 HBeAg-negative and 50 HBeAg-positive chronic hepatitis B patients have been studied and 23 HBeAg-positive patients were enrolled in a treatment follow-up study. 70% of the HBeAg-positive patients and 47% of the HBeAg-negative patients showed HBpreSAg positive. Particularly, in the HBeAg-negative patients, 30 out of 47 HBpreSAg positive patients showed no evidence of viral replication based on HBV DNA copies. A comparison with HBV DNA copies demonstrated that the overall accuracy of the HBpreSAg test could reach 72% for active HBV replication. HBpreSAg changes were well correlated with changes of HBsAg, HBV DNA and ALT levels during the course of IFN-α treatment and follow-up. HBeAg positive patients responded well to treatment when reduction of HBpreSAg levels was more pronounced.Our results suggested that HBpreSAg could be detected effectively, and well correlated with HBsAg and HBV DNA copies. The reduction of HBpreSAg levels in conjunction with the HBV DNA copies appears to be an improved predictor of treatment outcome.Hepatitis B virus (HBV) disease continues to be an important health problem worldwide. Estimated 360 million people are chronically infected by HBV and new chronic cases continue to accumulate [1]. Long-term treatment with interferon and/or nucleoside analog drugs will be required for these patients [2-4]. It is therefore valuable to have clinical indicators that support the optimal treatment of HBV infection. In addition, drug resistant mutants and genotypic variants should also be monitored.Chronic HBV patients are classified in three states: inactive HBsAg carrier-state, HBeAg-positive, and HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B. The inactive HBsAg carrier-state is characterized by the presence of HBsAg and anti-HBe, normal aminotransferase (ALT) level and low or undetectable level of HBV DNA in serum, indicating that HBV replication may be suppressed

Abstract: Material flow analysis(MFA) can quantify the relationships of material movement to resource utilization and to environmental effect in economic system by tracing the processes of input,storage and output of some substance in economic-environmental system,and it also can offer scientific basis for optimal management of resource and environment.This paper chose Liaoning Province,a representative of old industrial bases,as the research object.Firstly,by analyzing the indicators of material flow analysis,the paper determined the trends of Direct Material Input(DMI),Domestic Processed Output(DPO) and Total Material Requirement(TMR) between 1990 and 2008.Secondly,the Data Envelopment Analysis method(DEA) was used to measure the main indicators' efficiencies of material flow account respectively and the urgent tasks to dematerialize in Liaoning Province were clarified.Finally,research of testing the developing process of dematerialization in Liaoning Province was made.Some conclusions can be drawn as follows.(1) There was a dematerializing trend during the economic development,but the damage of DMI to environment was distinct.(2) The general efficiencies of DMI and DPO showed an upgrading performance while their average efficiencies were still low,which meant the DMI was saturated and the environment was destroyed with economic development.(3) The rebound effect of dematerialization was increasing as DMI was expanding and environmental stress was intensified.Fluctuations of dematerialization effect influenced the DMI and DPO of the corresponding years.(4) In 1990-2008,Liaoning Province reduced 22.88 million tons of DMI,and 5.82 million tons of DPO.Potential input dematerialization index was higher than potential waste dematerialization index,reflecting the rise of DMI would increase wastewater discharge.The dematerialization gaps of material input and waste were both greater than 0,which implied the potential of input dematerialization and waste dematerialization had been fulfilled to some degree,but more efforts should be done.

Abstract: 采用高效液相色谱法测定以10mg/kg体重剂量静脉注射和口服给药后史氏鲟血浆中达氟沙星的浓度。该法采用C18色谱柱,流动相为乙腈-水相(15∶85),荧光激发波长和发射波长分别为280nm和450nm,样品用甲醇沉淀蛋白,离心取上清液进样。达氟沙星在0.005—1.0μg/mL范围内线性关系良好,本方法的最低检测限为0.005μg/mL。健康鱼单剂量静注达氟沙星(10mg/kg),其药时数据符合无吸收的三室开放模型,方程为C=5.830-5.582t 4.162-1.157t 0.852-0.029t,主要动力学参数如下:t1/2α0.552h;t1/2β22.186h;AUC34.226mg/(L.h);V 10.922L/kg;Vb10.144L/kg;ke 10.317h.Ah感染组的V1减小至0.290L/kg,静注感染组鱼体内达氟沙星的消除没有显著的改变。健康口服组数据结果符合一级吸收二室开放模型,血药浓度和时间方程为C=1.278e-0.073t 0.177e-0.089t-1.455e-0.329t。药动学常数分别为:t1/2ka9.491h,t1/2β78.267h,Tmax6.284h,Cmax0.791mg/mL;α0.073h。但Ah感染改变达氟沙星口服给药后在史氏鲟体内的吸收、分布和消除。分布速率常数降低为0.050/h。消除减慢,消除半哀期延长为93.988h,达峰时间延长为至9.060h,峰浓度降低为0.585mg/mL。口服达氟沙星水溶液,健康及感染组史氏鲟对达氟沙星生物利用度分别为96.503%和94.435%。本实验结果表明达氟沙星在健康史氏鲟体内分布广泛、吸收较完全。感染Ah对达氟沙星在史氏鲟体内的吸收、分布及消除规律均有不同程度的影响,其中口服给药的影响更为显著。达氟沙星可用于史氏鲟感染Ah的治疗。
Numerical Analysis of Flow Field in Generator End-Winding Region

Abstract: Cooling in an end-winding region of a high-powered, large-sized generator still remains a challenge today because of a number of factors: a larger number of parts/components with irregular geometries, complexity in cooling flow paths, flow splitting and mixing, and interactions between rotor-induced rotating flows and nonrotating flows from stationary sections. One of the key challenges is to model cooling flows passing through armature bars, which are made up of bundles of strands of insulated copper wires and are bent oppositely to cross each other. This work succeeded in modeling a complex generator end-winding region with great efforts to simplify the model by treating the armature bar region as a porous medium. The flow and pressure fields at the end-winding region were investigated numerically using an axial symmetric computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model. Based on the analysis, the cooling flow rate at each flow branch (rotor-stator gap, rotor subslot, outside space block, and small ventilation holes to the heat exchanger) was determined, and the high-pressure gradient zones were identified. The CFD results have been successfully used to optimize the flow path configuration for improving the generator operation performance, and the control of the cooling flow, as well as minimizing windage losses and flow-introduced noises.
Numerical Analysis of Rotating Pumping Flows in Inter-Coil Rotor Cavities and Short Cooling Grooves of a Generator

Abstract: An important characteristic of wall rotating-driven flows is the tendency of fluid with high angular momentum to be flung radially outward. For a generator, the rotor rotating-driven flow, usually referred to as the rotating pumping flow, plays an important role in rotor winding cooling. In this study, three-dimensional numerical analyzes are presented for turbulent pumping flow in the inter-coil rotor cavity and short cooling grooves of a generator. Calculations of the flow field and the mass flux distribution through the grooves were carried out in a sequence of four related cases Under an isothermal condition: (a) pumping flow, which is the self-generated flow resulted from the rotor pumping action; (b) mixing flow, which is the combination of the ventilating flow and pumping flow, under a constant density condition; (c) mixing flow, with density modeled by the ideal gas law; and (d) mixing flow, with different pressure differentials applied on the system. The comparisons of the results from these cases can provide useful information regarding the impacts of the ventilating flow, gas density, and system pressure differential on the mass flux distribution in the short cooling grooves. Results show that the pumping effect is strong enough to generate the cooling flow for rotor winding cooling. Therefore, for small- or mid-size generators ventilation fans may be eliminated. It also suggests that increasing the chimney dimension can improve the distribution uniformity of mass flux through the cooling grooves.

Abstract: A total of 1,000 Chinese blood donors were typed for human platelet antigens (HPA) using a sequence specific primers -polymerase chain reaction (PCR-SSP) based HPA genotyping method. An individual with a rare HPA-10w(a+b+) genotype was found. In order to confirm the typing results, a fragment of HPA-10 gene was amplified by PCR and then sequenced. Sequencing data showed that a single G to A substitution at nucleotide 263 occurred, resulting in amino acid change from Arg(CGA) to Gln(CAA) at position 62 of GPa protein. The substitution generated antigenic specificity HPA-10bw. The detection of an HPA-10bw allele in the Chinese population suggests that this rare allele should be considered in platelet alloimmunization, such as neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT), post-transfusion thrombocytopenic purpura (PTP) and post-transfusion refractoriness to platelets (PTR).
Interdecadal Variability in Surface Solar Radiation over Northwest China and Its Possible Cause

Abstract: The present study investigates the interdecadal variability of seasonal mean surface solar radiation over Northwest China using station observations from 1961–2003. Spring and summer surface solar radiation over Northwest China was lower in the late 1970s through 1990s than in the 1960s through the mid-1970s, and fall and winter surface solar radiation displayed similar patterns. These results indicate that the decrease in spring and summer surface solar radiation may be associated with increased cloud cover over Northwest China. Rainfall anomalies were closely related to the low-cloud cover over Northwest China and with the Northern Hemisphere circumglobal teleconnection in spring, summer, and winter.
