RSSI Enhanced Microkernel-Based LBS Design  [PDF]

Geographical Information System (GIS) always plays an integral role in LBS systems. But it comes with technology problems, such as less flexible, low efficiency, no redundancy of existing geographic information of application configuration which has high entry cost. At same time, indoors positioning is attracting more and more attention from research domain where GPS-like systems do not work. By RSSI location fingerprint data that sampling from the actual WSN environment, this article analyzed RF signal propagation characteristics in indoor from the point of view of the indoor positioning, and analyzed some factors that may affect the positioning error, which provided a theoretical basis for the positioning algorithm design and positioning system deployment. The aim of this paper is also to present a lightweight, efficient and scalable microkernel plug-in geospatial information application system and its implementation method for GIS in LBS design and practice. In this paper a software model called Resource loading manager (RLM) is designed. Through the RLM efficient allocation of geographic information resources and security management could be achieved.

Abstract: By contrasting the traditional way in which GIS was completed that comes with less flexible, low efficiency, and lack redundancy which cause high entry cost, the fast development of microkernel plug-in technology provides the lightweight, efficient and scalable solution to Geographical Information System (GIS). This paper is to reveal the potential of microkernel plug-in geospatial information processing technology in GIS design and practice, with the acceptance and usage of function model called Resource loading manager(RLM) for GIS applications, which provides a possible solution to overcome the GIS’s high cost issue. After the short review of microkernel plug-in technology, the possibility of GIS design with microkernel is analyzed. This paper also introduced the composition of the whole system and the design of GIS service platform based on middle-ware in detail.
Cloud-Based Spatial Information Service Architecture within LBS  [PDF]

Location Based Services (LBS) have become a popular technology to retrieve information about the surroundings of a mobile user which results in ubiquitous demand of spatial information service with diverse needs of different types of users. The aim of this paper is to reveal the potential of cloud-based spatial information service architecture that plays an integral role in LBS design and practice. This paper analyzes the characteristics of the spatial information of cloud services, such as data access transparency, spatial analysis parallelization, service capabilities flexible, information services standardization, service aggregation visualization, re-development flexible. This paper provides a possible solution to overcome the LBS service issues. In this paper, the short review of LBS and Cloud computing are given first and then the possibility of LBS design with cloud computing are analyzed. At last, cloud-based spatial information service architecture is proposed.
Help Less or Help More —Perceived Intergroup Threat and Out-Group Helping

Abstract: The present research investigated the relationship between intergroup threat and prosocial actions toward out-group members. We proposed that intergroup threat not only results in direct negative intergroup attitudes and behavior, but also promotes an indirect reduction in out-group helping. Study 1 (N = 54) was conducted in a realistic setting, whereas Study 2 (N = 92) employed an experimental context. Willingness to help (help intent) and monetary donation (help behavior) was compared between the threatening out-group and the non-threatening out-group. The results showed that when intergroup threat was experienced, more help was offered to the non-threatening out-group than the threatening out-group. The findings suggest that perceived intergroup threat attenuates prosocial behavior toward out-group members.
Traditional Chinese Medicine for Senile Dementia

Abstract: Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has a 3000 years' history of human use. A literature survey addressing traditional evidence from human studies was done, with key result that top 10 TCM herb ingredients including Poria cocos, Radix polygalae, Radix glycyrrhizae, Radix angelica sinensis, and Radix rehmanniae were prioritized for highest potential benefit to dementia intervention, related to the highest frequency of use in 236 formulae collected from 29 ancient Pharmacopoeias, ancient formula books, or historical archives on ancient renowned TCM doctors, over the past 10 centuries. Based on the history of use, there was strong clinical support that Radix polygalae is memory improving. Pharmacological investigation also indicated that all the five ingredients mentioned above can elicit memory-improving effects in vivo and in vitro via multiple mechanisms of action, covering estrogen-like, cholinergic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiapoptotic, neurogenetic, and anti-Aβ activities. Furthermore, 11 active principles were identified, including sinapic acid, tenuifolin, isoliquiritigenin, liquiritigenin, glabridin, ferulic acid, Z-ligustilide, N-methyl-beta-carboline-3-carboxamide, coniferyl ferulate and 11-angeloylsenkyunolide F, and catalpol. It can be concluded that TCM has a potential for complementary and alternative role in treating senile dementia. The scientific evidence is being continuously mined to back up the traditional medical wisdom.
Genome-Wide Analysis of the Cyclin Gene Family in Tomato

Abstract: Cyclins play important roles in cell division and cell expansion. They also interact with cyclin-dependent kinases to control cell cycle progression in plants. Our genome-wide analysis identified 52 expressed cyclin genes in tomato. Phylogenetic analysis of the deduced amino sequences of tomato and Arabidopsis cyclin genes divided them into 10 types, A-, B-, C-, D-, H-, L-, T-, U-, SDS- and J18. Pfam analysis indicated that most tomato cyclins contain a cyclin-N domain. C-, H- and J18 types only contain a cyclin-C domain, and U-type cyclins contain another potential cyclin domain. All of the cyclin genes are distributed throughout the tomato genome except for chromosome 8, and 30 of them were found to be segmentally duplicated; they are found on the duplicate segments of chromosome 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 11 and 12, suggesting that tomato cyclin genes experienced a mass of segmental duplication. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis indicates that the expression patterns of tomato cyclin genes were significantly different in vegetative and reproductive stages. Transcription of most cyclin genes can be enhanced or repressed by exogenous application of gibberellin, which implies that gibberellin maybe a direct regulator of cyclin genes. The study presented here may be useful as a guide for further functional research on tomato cyclins.
Two Modified QUICK Schemes for Advection-Diffusion Equation of Pollutants on Unstructured Grids  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, two modified QUICK schemes, namely Q-QUICK and UQ-QUICK, for improving the preci-sion of convective flux approximation are verified in advection-diffusion equation of pollutants on unstruc-tured grids. The constructed auxiliary nodes for Q-QUICK/UQ-QUICK are composed of two neighboring nodes plus the next upwind node, the later node is generated from intersection of the line of current neighboring nodes and their corresponding interfaces. 2D unsteady advection-diffusion equation of pollut-ants is conducted for their verifications on unstructured grids. The numerical results show that Q-QUICK and UQ-QUICK have similar computational accuracy to the central difference scheme and similar numerical stability to upwind difference scheme after applying the deferred correction method. In addition, their corre-sponding CPU times are approximately equivalent to those of traditional difference schemes and their abili-ties for adapting high grid deformation are robust.
