Prevalencia de diabetes en una población adulta de Madrid (Espa?a): studio MADRIC (MADrid RIesgo Cardiovascular)

Abstract: objective: to estimate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glycemia in an adult population living in madrid (spain). methods: in this cross-sectional, population-based survey, we studied 1,344 adults aged 31-70 years, randomly selected from the population living in 14 primary care districts of the madrid region. all participants underwent a clinical evaluation that included a clinical interview, physical examination and fasting blood analysis (glycemia, cholesterol and triglyceride levels). the participants were considered to be diabetic if they had been previously diagnosed with diabetes by their general physician or had a fasting glycemia > 126mg/dl without a previous diabetes diagnosis. impaired fasting glycemia was defined as fasting glycemia between 100mg/dl and 125mg/dl in non-diabetic participants. results: the sex- and age-adjusted prevalence figures for diabetes and impaired fasting glucose were 6.6% (95% ci: 5.9-8.7) and 14.1% (95% ci: 12.1-15.8), respectively. a substantial proportion of diabetic patients [17.2% (95% ci: 10.9-23.5)] had not been previously diagnosed. the variables independently associated with diabetes were age, male gender, abdominal obesity and hypertension. conclusions: our prevalence figure for diabetes is similar to those reported in other spanish regions. the high frequency of impaired fasting glucose is worrisome, particularly when combined with obesity, as this association confers a high risk for developing diabetes mellitus.

Abstract: The strong political and cultural investment in the printed word that took place within the ArgentineJewish cultural world throughout the twentieth century was particularly intense and rich in the arc of theideological left. Thus, based on a lengthy work of record and systematization of Jewish periodicals printedin Buenos Aires along the twentieth century, the article focuses on the analysis of the left-wing periodicalspublished between 1900 and 1953. In this regard, it proposes a mapping of the diversity of enterprises, andfrom it a first outline of periodization from which it is possible to reach the general features of the emergencyand the socio-historical transformations of a specific area of Jewish left-wing publications. In this sense,the text describes the contours of a dense universe of production, circulation and consumption of symbolicgoods structured on two languages and consisting of a diverse set of cultural and political actors locatedin the country and abroad. The objectification of this space through a cartographic approximation like theone propposed here opens an area of research problems and hypothesis not yet explored.

Abstract: Apartir de los sucesos acaecidos en Venezuela el 11 de Abril del presente a o, con el fallido golpe de Estado, el país se ha precipitado en una crisis de institucionalidad y gobernabilidad que parece no tener una solución a corto plazo. En esto no sólo viene influyendo el activismo político de los nuevos actores y movimientos sociales, muy desmarcados de los partidos políticos tradicionales, que han asumidos roles y protagonismo muy personales; sino también, toda una caracterización de lo que se entiende por sociedad civil, por parte del gobierno y los opositores, como el espacio de convivencia ciudadana donde debe dársele respuesta a la conflictividad y la lucha de intereses. Pareciera que de la correcta interpretación de este concepto dependiera el diálogo y la posterior reconciliación de un país fracturado por la violencia política.

Abstract: this essay dwells on the value and sense of a certain relationship with ignorance when locating philosophy in educational land. its main purpose is not historiographical nor epistemological: it does not try to know or to determine what is ignorance, but only to consider a place for ignorance between those who teach and those who learn in order to open some established assumptions in the domain of philosophical practice with children. in a broader sense, it considers the place of knowledge and ignorance in the teaching of philosophy.
Vocational Choice as a source of stress

Abstract: in many cases of vocational choice the young people show stress symptoms. these do not appear in those students that are able to decide easily which career to chose. we inform here about the comparison of two representative samples of extreme cases. we used three psychometric instruments: the test of conflicts of personality (cortada, & kohan, 1998), the scale eae to evaluate stress (fernández seara, & milgo robles, 1992), and an adaptation of the coping responses inventory (moos, 1993). the general results showed significant differences between the two samples. probably the adolescents who have problems in their vocational choice, only show once more their basic insecurity, and their overt manifestation are the stress symptoms.

Abstract: the interest of man for himself could be traced in the words at the delphos temple in greece "gnwsi se auton". but in classic greece (plato and aristotle), as well as in the middle age (saint thomas), the man was seen as a compound of body and soul in the context of onthology and methaphysics. only in the renaissance luis vives (1538-1947) said ?that it does not matter much what is the soul. instead what it matters to us is to know how it works?. in the renaissance the knowledge of the world gave birth to the natural sciences and also more value was given to the person and its subjectivity. scientific psychology starts, as everybody knows, at the wundt laboratory in leipzig in 1879 as an experimental science with herbart, weber, ebbinhaus, fechner and some others. there are two trends in scientific psychology: cognitive psychology and psychometrics. the interest of psychologists for the study of the mind started around 1950; this concept was rejected by behaviorists. cognitive psychology tries to find out in detail the mental processes that are used by man. however, cognitive psychology, as behaviorism, studies psychological constructs through observable behavior using experimental designs, establishing good control of the variables and using mathematical models such as multivariate analysis, exponential functions, statistical analysis for the verification of hypothesis, and so on. there are many fields studied by cognitive psychologists, sometimes using different ways to explain the same phenomena. for instance, the language and its evolution is analyzed in very different contexts by chomsky, piaget, vygotsky and brunner, but all of them are considered cognitivists. cognitive psychology may be defined as an objective science of the mind understood as a system of knowledge (rivière, 1991). sometimes in a restricted sense the metaphor of mind-computer is used. contributions to this point of view were made by boole (1815-1854) with the mathematical analysis of logic,
A Filosofia e seu ensino como phármakon

Abstract: this article goes back to socrates and plato to reach for elements that help us to think about the meaning and sense of teaching philosophy through the concept of pharmakon. in the first section, we present a characterization that socrates makes on philosophy, its conditions and on himself as a philosopher in phaedrus and in some other dialogues by plato; the second section offers details of plato's condemnation for writing in phaedrus, taking into consideration the criticism of j. derrida and g. deleuze to establish what is at stake in that censure; in the third section, the pedagogical and political effects of such condemnation are presented, and also how it places plato in a surprising opposite position in relation to his own teacher, socrates. finally, there are some conclusions of that combat and of its value for those who are now thinking the teaching of philosophy in brazil in the present moment.
