Exploring Learner to Content Interaction as a Success Factor in Online Courses
Tekeisha Denise Zimmerman
International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning , 2012,
Abstract: Interaction plays a critical role in the learning process. For online course participants, interaction with the course content (learner-content interaction) is especially important because it can contribute to successful learning outcomes and course completion. This study aims to examine the relationship between learner-content interaction and course grade to determine if this interaction type is a contributing success factor. Data related to student interaction with course content, including time spent reviewing online course materials, such as module PowerPoint presentations and course videos and time spent completing weekly quizzes, were collected for students in three sections of an online course (N = 139). The data were then correlated against grades achieved in the course to determine if there was any relationship. Findings indicate statistically significant relationships between the amount of time the learner spent with the content and weekly quiz grades (r = .-72). The study concludes that learners who spent more time interacting with course content achieve higher grades than those who spent less time with the content.
Rethinking Human Resource Strategies: A Shift in the Treatment of Contingent Workers
Tekeisha Zimmerman,Mariya Gavrilova-Aguilar,Princess Cullum
International Journal of Business and Management , 2013, DOI: 10.5539/ijbm.v8n7p28
Abstract: Contingent workers fulfill valuable organizational needs and have functioned as knowledge resources for organizations. Despite their contributions, the literature suggests that a difference in treatment exists between contingent and standard workers in terms of onboarding, pay for performance, and training and development practices within organizations. This paper presents an empirically testable framework that argues for a shift in HR strategies that will allow for equality in treatment between standard and contingent workers within organizations.

El gesto y la mirada // The gesture and the look
Daniel Zimmerman
Affectio Societatis , 2012,
// Based on different references taken from literature, films, and pictorial creation, we intend to interrogate the dimension of the gesture. As conditions as movement offered to the look will allow us to point out the corresponding place for the object in the subjective structure.

Las coordenadas del paso al acto
Zimmerman Daniel
Abstract This paper examines, as from the punctuation of the novel Billy Budd, sailor, by Herman Melville, the structure of the passage to the act, in order to set the points of reference for a proper clinical approach. Keywords: passage to the act, anxiety, jouissance, act.
Abstract Freud recognized in literary fiction an invaluable instrument in the search for clinical truth. Stemming from his pioneering developments, the psychoanalytic method is capable of attempting links with literature, always subordinated to the ultimate instance of the text. Keywords: fiction, Freud, letter, Volodya.
The Singularity: A Crucial Phase in Divine Self-Actualization?
Michael Zimmerman
Cosmos and History : the Journal of Natural and Social Philosophy , 2008,
Abstract: Ray Kurzweil and others have posited that the confluence of nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, robotics, and genetic engineering will soon produce posthuman beings that will far surpass us in power and intelligence. Just as black holes constitute a ldquo;singularityrdquo; from which no information can escape, posthumans will constitute a ldquo;singularity:rdquo; whose aims and capacities lie beyond our ken. I argue that technological posthumanists, whether wittingly or unwittingly, draw upon the long-standing Christian discourse of ldquo;theosis, rdquo; according to which humans are capable of being God or god-like. From St. Paul and Luther to Hegel and Kurzweil, the idea of human self-deification plays a prominent role. Hegel in particular emphasizes that God becomes wholly actualized only in the process by which humanity achieves absolute consciousness. Kurzweil agrees that God becomes fully actual only through historical processes that illuminate and thus transform the entire universe. The difference is that for Kurzweil and many other posthumanists, our offspringmdash;the posthumansmdash;will carry out this extraordinary process. What will happen to Home sapiens in the meantime is a daunting question.br /br /
The Whitney Extension Theorem for $C^1$, horizontal curves in $\mathbb{H}^n$
Scott Zimmerman
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: For a real valued function defined on a compact set $K \subset \mathbb{R}^m$, the classical Whitney Extension Theorem from 1934 gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a $C^k$ extension to $\mathbb{R}^m$. In this paper, we prove a version of the Whitney Extension Theorem in the case of $C^1$, horizontal extensions for mappings defined on compact subsets of $\mathbb{R}$ taking values in the Heisenberg Group $\mathbb{H}^n$.
Detecting Deficiencies: An Optimal Group Testing Algorithm
Seth Zimmerman
Statistics , 2014,
Abstract: The use of group testing to locate all instances of disease in a large population of blood samples was first considered seventy years ago. Since then, several methods have been used to approximate the minimum expected number of tests. The procedure presented here, in contrast to all previous ones, takes a constructive rather than a top-down approach. As far as could be verified, it offers the first proven solution to the problem of finding the minimum expected number of tests with a predetermined procedure. Computer results indicate that the algorithm has a Fibonacci-based pattern.
