Heterocyclic Letters , 2013,
Abstract: A series of newly substituted isoxazoline derivatives (3a-g) have been synthesized by conventional as well as microwave assisted technology by the reaction of acetanilide, aromatic aldehydes (1a-g) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride in two steps by using K10 Montmorillonite clay as a catalyst. It was found that some compounds show the better yield with K-10 Montmorillonite catalyst under microwave irradiation than conventional synthesis. The newly synthesized products were characterized by IR, 1HNMR and 13CNMR.
Formulation design and optimization of taste-masked mouth-dissolving tablets of Tramadol hydrochloride
Patel K,Shete S,Belgamwar V,Tekade A
Asian Journal of Pharmaceutics , 2010,
Abstract: The aim of the present study was to mask the extremely bitter taste of Tramadol HCL, an opioid analgesic, and to formulate a tablet which can rapidly disintegrate in saliva (rapidly disintegrating tablet). The crucial aspect in the formulation of mouth-dissolving tablets is to mask the bitter taste and to minimize the disintegration time. Taste masking was done using sweetening agent and D-mannitol and taste-masked pellets were prepared by extrusion spheronization technique. Prepared pellets were tested for drug content, taste evaluation in oral cavity and molecular property. Pellet shows significant taste masking, confirmed by in vitro taste evaluation; therefore, it was selected for further study. Pellets were evaluated for density, angle of repose, Carr′s index, Hausner′s ratio and sphericity while tablets were evaluated for disintegration and in vitro dissolution. A 3 2 full factorial design and statistical models were applied to optimize the effect of two factors, i.e. superdisintegrant sodium starch glycolate and taste-masking agent (D-mannitol). In this study, response surface methodology was used for designing of the experiment, generation of mathematical models and optimization study. Taste evaluation of pellets in human volunteers revealed considerable taste masking with a degree of bitterness below threshold value (2.0) within 10 s, whereas Tramadol HCl was rated intensely bitter with a score of +4 for 10 s. The size of the pellets varied from 0.895 to 1.423 mm for different batch and found to be a spherical. Disintegration time of different formulations varied from 30 to 60 s. It was observed that the responses, i.e. disintegration time and sphericity were affected by both the factors. The statistical models were validated and can be successfully used to prepare optimized taste-masked mouth-dissolving tablets of Tramadol HCl with adequate disintegration and shape.
What Is Pharmacoepidemiology?
Pande V. V.,Parakh S. R.,Tekade A. R.,Polshettiwar S.A.
Pharmaceutical Reviews , 2007,
Abstract: All drugs have adverse effects. Pharmacoepidemilogy will never succeed in preventing them. It can only detect them, hopefully early, and thereby educate health care providers and public, which will lead to better medication use. The net results of increased activity in Pharmacoepidemiology will be better for industry and Academia but most importantly, for public’s health. Pharmacoepidemilogy can minimize its adverse public health impact by detecting it early. At the same time, it can improve the use of drugs that have genuine role, protecting against the loss of useful of useful drugs. The past few decades have demonstrated the utility of this field. They also have pointed out some of its problems. With luck, the next few years will see the utility accentuated and the problems ameliorated. The harm that drugs can cause has led to the development of the field of Pharmacoepidemiology
A Review Of Chikungunya
Bincy Thomas,A.R.Tekade,Pande V.V
Pharmaceutical Reviews , 2007,
Abstract: Vaccines and new drugs against chikungunya are urgently needed. Chikungunya is generally not fatal. However, in 2005-2007, many deaths have been associated with chikungunya worldwide and still it is continuing. Currently there is no vaccine and fully satisfied drugs to treat all symptoms of chikungunya.Treatment are just symptomatic and in many cases improper use of NSAIDS leads to more complications. Every year 1000s are getting infected and many are dying. So it is high time to turn health organisation’s concentration to find a solution for this health issue.IntroductionThe word chikungunya meaning "that which bends up", which is derived from its arthritic symptoms. It is the hottest topic of discussion among public today, so is necessary to know the causes, symptoms, treatment and preventive measures of this viral fever. Usually chikungunya virus or CHIKV is spread by mosquito bites from Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, Aedes albopictus (Tiger mosquito), Aedes luteocephalus, or A. taylori.. There is no reported case of human-human transmission of CHIKV. The outbreak of infection and studies about it reveals that people living near to forest and water stores are more prone to this viral desease, since these areas provide better environment for mosquito breeding.High fever and arthritic pain, especially severe pain on extremes is characteristic of chikungunya fever. In allopathic, treatment is based on the symptoms and no preventive drugs are available. Siddha system claims some medicines for both treatment and prevention, but is not scientifically proven. By taking proper precaution against mosquito bites by using insecticides, repellents and other measures, transmission of CHIKV can be prevented to greater extent.
Significance Of Gene Therapy In Psoriasis
Pande V.V.,Chandorkar J.G,Tekade A.R,Dubey Sonal
Pharmaceutical Reviews , 2007,
Abstract: The replacement gene therapy of a particular disease is powerful tool to treat a genetic disorder by giving patient functional gene in place of defective gene. Primary candidate for replacement gene therapy are hereditary disease like Adenosine Deaminase (ADA) deficiency. The disorder result from a mutation in gene that code for the enzyme ADA. Gene Therapy has proved to be simpler in theory than it is in practice. Getting replacement genes into appropriate cells inserting them into proper site within the genome of those cells and getting them to function and response normal physiological signal. This results into need to investigate gene to treat various genetic disorders. We can get sequence of gene or chromosome searching gene responsible for the particular disease and blasting gene sequence of crude drug which is used clinically to treat that particular disease. In this literature the Psoriasis hereditary disorder is considered for study and gene sequence of Lithospermum crude drug is used. After alignment of gene sequence of psoriasis with the gene sequence of lithospermum it is found that 63% score index is obtained. It is generally consider that score index from 50% to 70% is good for gene therapy of a particular disease.
Pharmacogenomics: Impact on Drug Response and Applications to Infectious Diseases Management
Pande V. V.,Shastri K. V,Tekade A. R.,Chandorkar J.G.
Pharmaceutical Reviews , 2007,
Abstract: The impact of pharmacogenomics on theprevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectious diseases isdiscussed. The application of pharmacogenomics to infectious diseasesrequires consideration of the genomes of both the pathogen and the host. The pathogen’s genome may be used for antigenidentification, to identify infecting organisms, and to determineantimicrobial resistance. Diagnostic tool development and vaccinedesign can be aided by knowing which portions of a pathogen areimportant antigenic determinants. The unique genetic makeup of apathogen can facilitate its identification as an augmentation to thetraditional culture. Important genes conferring resistance toantibiotics can be detected and this information can be used to choose appropriate antibiotic therapy. Thegenome of the host may reveal susceptibility genes and new drug targetsthat may be used in the treatment of infectious diseases. Thus far, polymorphisms in genes of the host immune system have been associatedwith susceptibility to infections and response to treatment. Examplesof these findings will be described. Pharmacogenomics has the potentialto revolutionize the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of infectiousdiseases.

Pharmaceutical Reviews , 2008,
Abstract: The words ‘religion’ & ‘spiritualism’ in a layman’s conception means some basic, age-old cultures and customs which acts as a binding force in a community. Religion is derived from the term "religo" which means "good faith," "ritual," and other similar meanings.Or it may have come The English word "religion" is derived from the Middle English "religioun" which came from the from the Old French "religion." It may have been originally derived from the Latin word Latin "relig re" which means "to tie fast." Religion organizes the collective spiritual experiences of a group of people into a system of beliefs and practices’. Religiosity’ refers to the extent and degree of adherence of an individual towards the core value and beliefs of a religion. ’Spirituality’ on the other hand means ‘breathe’. Spiritual is a much deeper aspect of religion. Spiritualism is more scientific and dynamic and its scope is much wider than religion .Spiritualism is concerned with metaphysical issues like the reason and purpose of life, transcendence from the mundane world, divine justice etc. Though on a holistic approach there may exist fundamental difference between religion and spirituality but spirituality is more or less regarded the same as that of religion because though the path of a formal religion may differ from spirituality, their aim coincide with each other. In other words religion is the formalized approach to spiritualism.

Case Reports in Oncological Medicine , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/869409
Abstract: Soft tissue sarcomas represent less than 1% of all human neoplasms. One-third of malignant tumors that arise in the retroperitoneum are sarcomas and liposarcoma is the most common retroperitoneal sarcoma. More often than not, patients report late to the hospital due to the slow progress and few late symptoms. Thus, the tumor is known to grow to enormous sizes. Here, we report a case of giant retroperitoneal liposarcoma weighing more than 7 kgs.
