An Optical Fiber Sensor Probe Using a PMMA/CPR Coated Bent Optical Fiber as a Transducer for Monitoring Trace Ammonia  [PDF]

Abstract: Ammonia sensors have broad spectrum of applications for industrial process control as well as for environ-mental monitoring. An optical fiber ammonia sensor probe has been developed by using a bent optical fiber having dual poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/chlorophenol red (CPR) coatings as a transducer. This sen-sor probe was tested for monitoring trace ammonia in gas samples using air as sample matrix. The reaction of ammonia with CPR causes a color change of the reagent, which was detected by using fiber optic evanes-cent wave absorption spectrometry as a sensing signal. By adopting a dual layer coating structure, the sensor probe has faster response compared to a sensor using a broadly accepted sensing reagent-immobilized poly-mer coating structure. The sensor developed in this work is sensitive, has a detection limit of 2.7 ppb NH3 in air, which is the most sensitive among the reported optical fiber ammonia sensors to the best knowledge of the authors. The sensor is also reversible and has a response time of 25 minutes. The features of high sensi-tivity, reversibility and reasonable response time make this sensor technique very attractive for air quality monitoring.
The Numerical Simulation of Gas Turbine Inlet-Volute Flow Field  [PDF]

Abstract:

The structural and aerodynamic performance of the air inlet volute has an important influence on the performance of the gas turbine. On one hand, it requires the airflow flowing through inlet volute as even as possible, in order to reduce the pressure loss, to avoid a decrease in the effective output power and an increase of the fuel consumption rate of the internal combustion engine which indicate the inefficiency of the entire power unit; On the other hand, it requires the size of the inlet volute to be as small as possible in order to save mounting space and production costs. The thesis builds the structure model and develops flow fields numerical simulation of several different sizes of the inlet volutes. Further, the unreasonable aerodynamic structure is improved according to the flow field characteristics and thereby, a better aerodynamic performance of the inlet volute is obtained.

Abstract: In this paper, we establish an $\epsilon$-regularity criterion for any weak solution $(u,d)$ to the nematic liquid crystal flow (1.1) such that $(u,\nabla d)\in L^p_tL^q_x$ for some $p\ge 2$ and $q\ge n$ satisfying the condition (1.2). As consequences, we prove the interior smoothness of any such a solution when $p>2$ and $q>n$. We also show that uniqueness holds for the class of weak solutions $(u,d)$ the Cauchy problem of the nematic liquid crystal flow (1.1) that satisfy $(u,\nabla d)\in L^p_tL^q_x$ for some $p>2$ and $q>n$ satisfying (1.2).

Abstract: This paper reviewed the studies of Internet retailing management. It found that, in general, most of the pa-pers on the topic took focus on Internet retailing strategy and online merchandise management. Specifically, it drawn following conclusions: First, there were six major incentives for firms to adopt Internet retailing, including improving internal communication, improving operational efficiency, facing competition, enhanc-ing customer services, reaching out to a wider audience, and improving relations with suppliers. Second, cost of Internet trading and consumer preference were negatively, while status of Internet retailing strategy, tech-nology capability, Internet communication preference, Internet marketplace, and market development op-portunity were positively, affect firms to adopt Internet retailing. Third, market positioning, business model, estimation of the market size, Internet-based innovative application, and strong brand of website were the key factors for the success of an online retailing website. Fourth, cross-channel conflict might be reduced by reconstructing the business process or adjusting the pricing strategy, while Internet retailing inventory might be improved by firms’ zero inventory policy, in-stock inventory policy, and dynamic inventory policy. Fi-nally, a firm’s quality of logistics and delivery could be increased by high-value-package strategy and emer-gency transshipments. Implications of these conclusions were suggested。

Abstract: In the era of internet finance, the scholars and practitioners around the world are paying attention to how to enhance the competitiveness of commercial banks by choosing the appropriate growth pattern of business performance. This paper uses empirical research to discuss the growth model of business performance within 16 listed commercial banks in China by full-combination DEA-PCA model. We find that there are significant differences on the performance evaluation of each listed bank due to whether they consider internet factor or not. Furthermore, we apply PCA model which is based on the result of full-combination DEA model to classify the growth pattern of business performance into “Internet Business Oriented” which enhances performance by internet finance innovation and “Traditional Business Oriented” which maintains performance by traditional banking business. According to the performance of each listed bank in the PCA analysis chart, we classify these banks further into four groups: “Emphasis on internet business”, “Emphasis on traditional business”, “Emphasis on internet business with overburdened traditional business” and “Balance between internet business and traditional business”. Each group of banks has its own strength and weakness. At last, according to the characteristics of different bank groups, we put forward the corresponding efficiency strategy recommendations.

Abstract: Feasibility of dissolution and utilization of expanded polystyrene in cycloalkane solutions was investigated in this work. The dissolution process of expanded polystyrene in several cycloalkane solutions decalin, cyclohexane and methyl cyclohexane was studied. The effect of dissolution temperature, mechanical agitation, ultrasonic wave and stirring rate was studied under optimized conditions. Mass transfer coefficients were fitted. The results showed that the dissolution rate of expanded polystyrene in different cycloalkane solutions was ranked as decalin > methyl cyclohexane > cyclohexane; higher dissolution temperature and faster stirring rate could speed up the dissolution of expanded polystyrene; the effect of mechanical agitation was superior to ultrasonic condition; the solubility of top face was better than side face and under face.

Abstract: Over 50 years ago, banana export plantations in Panama were ruined by Fusarium wilt race 1 (Foc. R1) since the popular cultivar Gros Michel is susceptible to Foc. R1 [1]. Fortunately, the resistant cultivar Cavendish replaced Gros Michel as the world biggest commercial fruit after ten years’ research and development. Due to its good economic profit, banana industry develops very fast recently in China. Unfortunately, Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense tropical race 4 (TR4) brought disaster to Cavendish plantation since 1996. Most of traditional banana planting zones of Guangdong and Hainan provinces were infected by Foc. TR4 to the end of 2009. In order to fight against Foc. TR4, here we tried to investigate the cost-benefit and disease resistance of six banana cultivars (Cavendish Baxijiao, Dajiao, Guangfen No. 1, Fenzha No. 1, Gongjiao, Haigongjiao) planted in China Foc. Zones. Comparisons were conducted on their economic characteristics, cost, benefit, as well as the advantage and disadvantage and their application in rota-tion. Generally, supposing the investment of $ 4400/ha, the banana plantation attains a good economic profit as $ 2200/ha. Rotation of these cultivars can maintain the biodiversity as well as improve the sustainable development of banana industry.
Semileptonic $B_c$ decays and Charmonium distribution amplitude

Abstract: In this paper we study the semileptonic decays of the $B_c$ meson in the Light-Cone Sum Rule (LCSR) approach. The result for each channel depends on the corresponding distribution amplitude of the final meson. For the case of $B_c$ decaying into a pseudoscalar meson, to twist-3 accuracy only the leading twist distribution amplitude (DA) is involved if we start from a chiral current. If we choose a suitable chiral current in the vector meson case, the main twist-3 contributions are also eliminated and we can consider the leading twist contribution only. The leading twist distribution amplitudes of the charmonium and other heavy mesons are given by a model approach in the reasonable way. Employing this charmonium distribution amplitude we find the cross section $\sigma(e^+e^-\to J/\psi+\eta_c)\simeq22.8 {fb}$ which is consistent with Belle and BaBar's data. Based on this model, we calculate the form factors for various $B_c$ decay modes in the corresponding regions. Extrapolating the form factors to the whole kinetic regions, we get the decay widths and branching ratios for various $B_c$ decay modes including their $\tau$ modes when they are kinematically accessible.
