Performance Evaluation of the Layered Space-Time Receiver Using the QR Detection Method

Abstract: The conventional V-BLAST detection is a single flow algorithm that consists of the two major operations: 1) the finding of the ordering index and 2) the nulling and symbol cancellation process. Thispaper focuses on the second operation and provides an alternative way for the nulling and symbol cancellation process using the QR decomposition to modify the V-BLAST algorithm for another way ofeffective detection. The decomposition of the channel matrix into the orthonormal matrix Q and the triangular matrix R have created a way of achieving symbol cancellation by means of backward substitution. Results are presented for various system configurations that demonstrate the performance of rearranging the channel matrix using the proposed method as compared to random ordering.

The prevalence of malnutrition is increasing in this population and is associated with a decline in: functional status, impaired muscle function, decreased bone mass, immune dysfunction, anemia, reduced cognitive function, poor wound healing, delayed recovery from surgery, higher hospital readmission rates, and mortality. Older people often have reduced appetite and energy expenditure, which, coupled with a decline in biological and physiological functions such as reduced lean body mass, changes in cytokine and hormonal level, and changes in fluid electrolyte regulation, delay gastric emptying and diminish senses of smell and taste. In addition pathologic changes of aging such as chronic diseases and psychological illness all play a role in the complex etiology of malnutrition in older people. Nutritional assessment is important to identify and treat patients at risk, the Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool being commonly used in clinical practice. Management requires a holistic approach, and underlying causes such as chronic illness, depression, medication and social isolation must be treated. Patients with physical or cognitive impairment require special care and attention. Oral supplements or enteral feeding should be considered in patients at high risk or in patients unable to meet daily requirements.

Anomalous Hardening of Submicron Porous Silver at High Strain Rates

Abstract: Microscratch hardness measurements were conducted on porous silver membranes using a sphero-conical Rockwell indenter over a strain rate range of 10-1-10+4 s-1. At high strain rates, the porous silver has a strain-rate sensitivity of hardness that is enhanced in comparison to its dense counterpart. The enhancement is found to increase for strain rates greater than 10+2 s-1 wherein strain rate exponents are measured as high as 0.25. The increase appears attributable to the free volume available for deformation within the porous structure. This result represents up to a five-fold increase in the exponent value in comparison to tensile tests conducted at strain rates less than 10-1 s-1.
Impacts of different cumulus physics over south Asia region with case study tropical cyclone Viyaru

Abstract: Tropical Cyclone Viyaru, formerly known as Cyclonic Storm Mahasen was a rapidly intensifying, category 01B storm that made landfall in Chittagong, Bangladesh on the 16th of May, 2013. In this study, the sensitivity of numerical simulations of tropical cyclone to cumulus physics parametrization is carried out with a view to determine the best cumulus physics option for prediction of the cyclones track, timing, and central pressure evolution in the Bay of Bengal. For this purpose, the tropical cyclone Viyaru has been simulated by WRF ARW in a nested domain with NCEP Global Final Analysis(FNL) data as initial and boundary conditions. The model domain consists of one parent domain and one nested domain. The resolution of the parent domain is 36 km while the nested domain has a resolution of 12 km. Five numerical simulations have been done with the same micro-physics scheme (WSM3), planetary boundary layer scheme,NOAH land surface scheme but different Cumulus Parametrization scheme. Four cumulus Parametrization schemes are KF, BMJ, GF and Tiedtke and one simulation was done without any cumulus physics scheme. The results of model simulations are compared with corresponding analysis or observation data. For best result data provided by Joint Typhoon Warning Center and NASA tropical cyclone center was used as observed for comparison. After the study it was found that tracks, intensity, wind speed, precipitation, and central pressure of the cyclone have sensitive result with different cumulus physics schemes.
Skin Detection of Animation Characters

Abstract: The increasing popularity of animes makes it vulnerable to unwanted usages like copyright violations and pornography. That is why, we need to develop a method to detect and recognize animation characters. Skin detection is one of the most important steps in this way. Though there are some methods to detect human skin color, but those methods do not work properly for anime characters. Anime skin varies greatly from human skin in color, texture, tone and in different kinds of lighting. They also vary greatly among themselves. Moreover, many other things (for example leather, shirt, hair etc.), which are not skin, can have color similar to skin. In this paper, we have proposed three methods that can identify an anime character skin more successfully as compared with Kovac, Swift, Saleh and Osman methods, which are primarily designed for human skin detection. Our methods are based on RGB values and their comparative relations.
Controlling and securing a Digital Home using Multiple Sensor Based Perception system Integrated with Mobile and Voice technology

Abstract: Fully controlled digital home had always been considered as a luxury of rich people because of excessive cost to install the system. It is now within the reach of mass people with lots of inexpensive cool features. In this paper we have designed and developed a very low cost, efficient and reliable Digital home system. Fully Controlled Digital Home is no more a Luxury. Our proposed system made it affordable. We built a low-cost feature-rich Digital Home System (DHS). Digital Home System is combination of automated services i.e. Electronic Device Controller, IR Security System, Web Desktop, Remote Video Surveillance System and Virtual Mobile by which we can control our home by avoiding old manual processes e.g. our physical presence at home is optional. The System provides some of the modern luxury & security features to us. Now we can control Light or fan or AC or any electronic devices in home by voice command, Blue-tooth, GPRS or Website. To control the system remotely, GPRS connectivity is added. We can also monitor our home from remote area by using Remote Video Surveillance System. For example if we are outside of home but we want to see what is happening in your home you can easily login to system and watch the live video of your home in our mobile device. Moreover, we can also access our PC and do the necessary tasks from any internet enabled computer in the world by using Web Desktop which is specially built for this purpose. Furthermore, if any unauthorized person wants to enter in our home the IR-Security System will inform us by sending SMS & store the image of that unauthorized person in our computer for further action and also generate a voice alarm ”Someone in the room”. So that ensures the security of our valuable things. Also we can identify and monitor the location of our valuable assets e.g. precious metals remotely. Finally, Virtual mobile application is a Universal mobile Driver by which we can exactly perform some same task e.g. Remote call, Phone book access, SMS read-write of our mobile device from our new invented computer’s virtual mobile. Water tank controller, automated entrance/exit gate, remote TV connection is also added in our digital home system.

Optimal Planning of Standalone Solar-Wind-Diesel Hybrid Energy System for a Coastal Area of Bangladesh

Abstract: For sustainable development of a country access to electricity in every moment is now the basic need for the current civilization. Power crisis is one of the major barriers for economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh lacks in fossil fuel reservation. Abundance of renewable energy sources in the form of solar energy, wind energy provides opportunities of renewable energy based hybrid energy system in the coastal areas of Bnagladesh. Energy generation by hybrid system reduces the generation cost and will help in balancing the cost of energy. Again a standalone renewable enegy incorporated hybrid energy system will reduce load demand from the grid and will be an eco-friendly energy system. This paper proposed a cost effective design of standalone solar-wind-diesel hybrid power system in a coastal area of Bangladesh. Considering different conditions for a coastal area design and simulation of the hybrid power system was performed. Detailed economic analysis and comparison with solar based and diesel based energy system clearly reveals that proposed hybrid power system was found a cost effective solution for coastal areas of bangladesh.
Antinociceptive and Anti-inflammatory Activity of the Ethanolic Extract of Cymbidium aloifolium (L.)

Abstract: The ethanol leaf extract of Cymbidium aloifolium (L.) was evaluated for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities. The extract, at the dose of 200 and 400 mg kg-1 body weight, exerted the analgesic activity by observing the number of abdominal contractions and anti-inflammatory activity against Carrageenin induced paw edema in mice by measuring the paw volume. The ethanolic extract of Cymbidium aloifolium (L.) showed statistically significant (p<0.05) reduction of percentage of writhing of 33.57 and 61.31% at 200 and 400 mg kg-1 oral dose, respectively, when compared to negative control. The Ethanolic plant extract also showed significant (p<0.05) dose dependent reduction of mean increase of formation of paw edema. The results of the experiment and its statistical analysis showed that the ethanolic plant extract had shown significant (p<0.05) dose dependent analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities when compared to the control.
