The IT convergence framework design in the internet of things environment

Abstract: In the Internet of things that could intelligent functions such as communications, context awareness, remote control, and provide services to users by assigning advanced communication functions to things, a convergence process between the general manufacturing industry and the IT industry. In detail, the IT convergence is divided into one for the product itself and one for the product manufacturing process. This study designs a model to objectively measure the IT convergence level for the automobile and shipbuilding industries, which are classified as a typical manufacturing industry, and applies it to them so that it would like to acquire availability of the model as well as to provide the present condition of current IT convergence level.
Novel Approaches to Enhance Mobile WiMAX Security

Abstract: The IEEE 802.16 Working Group on Broadband Wireless Access Standards released IEEE 802.16-2004 which is a standardized technology for supporting broadband and wireless communication with fixed and nomadic access. After the IEEE 802.16-2004 standard, a new advanced and revised standard was released as the IEEE 802.16e-2005 amendment which is foundation of Mobile WiMAX network supporting handover and roaming capabilities. In the area of security aspects, compared to IEEE 802.16-2004, IEEE 802.16e, called Mobile WiMAX, adopts improved security architecture—PKMv2 which includes EAP authentication, AES-based authenticated encryption, and CMAC or HMAC message protection. However, there is no guarantee that PKMv2-based Mobile WiMAX network will not have security flaws. In this paper, we investigate the current Mobile WiMAX security architecture focusing mainly on pointing out new security vulnerabilities such as a disclosure of security context in network entry, a lack of secure communication in network domain, and a necessity of efficient handover supporting mutual authentication. Based on the investigation results, we propose a novel Mobile WiMAX security architecture, called RObust and Secure MobilE WiMAX (ROSMEX), to prevent the new security vulnerabilities.

A Novel Approach to Detect Network Attacks Using G-HMM-Based Temporal Relations between Internet Protocol Packets

Abstract: This paper introduces novel attack detection approaches on mobile and wireless device security and network which consider temporal relations between internet packets. In this paper we first present a field selection technique using a Genetic Algorithm and generate a Packet-based Mining Association Rule from an original Mining Association Rule for Support Vector Machine in mobile and wireless network environment. Through the preprocessing with PMAR, SVM inputs can account for time variation between packets in mobile and wireless network. Third, we present Gaussian observation Hidden Markov Model to exploit the hidden relationships between packets based on probabilistic estimation. In our G-HMM approach, we also apply G-HMM feature reduction for better initialization. We demonstrate the usefulness of our SVM and G-HMM approaches with GA on MIT Lincoln Lab datasets and a live dataset that we captured on a real mobile and wireless network. Moreover, experimental results are verified by -fold cross-validation test.

Abstract: Purpose. To evaluate the short-term effect of standard automated perimetry (SAP) testing on intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma (OAG). Methods. We tested 45 patients (71 eyes) with OAG that had stable IOP under medical treatment. IOP was measured four times using an iCare rebound tonometer (RBT) immediately before, immediately after, 10 minutes after, and 20 minutes after SAP testing. Logistic regression analyses were performed to determine the relationships among SAP test duration, mean deviation of the SAP result, type of glaucoma medications, patient age, and significant IOP change (exceeding 2?mmHg) from baseline IOP. Results. The mean baseline IOP was 13.29 ± 3.06?mmHg. Although IOP changes immediately and 20 minutes after SAP testing were not statistically significant, the IOP change 10 minutes after SAP testing (?0.57 ± 1.84?mmHg) was statistically significant. However, the changes were within the margin of error of the RBT. Test duration, mean deviation, patient age, and type of glaucoma medications did not have a significant influence on IOP change (all ). Conclusions. IOP measured by RBT did not vary significantly after SAP testing in patients with OAG. It may be not necessary to reject IOP measured after SAP testing in patients with OAG. 1. Introduction Intraocular pressure (IOP) remains the only treatable risk factor for the management of glaucoma. Repeated IOP measurement and standard automated perimetry (SAP) testing are simple but fundamental procedures used to assess the stage of progression and to determine adequate treatment for patients with glaucoma [1, 2]. On a daily basis in our practice, IOP is measured after SAP testing. Afterward, both the SAP results and IOP are discussed with the patients, and their treatment strategies for glaucoma may be adjusted. There is a possibility that visual field examination performed before IOP measurement using both topical anesthetics and fluorescein dye affects the IOP values, misleading the clinician to strengthen the patients’ glaucoma treatment plan. Currently, there is no consensus in the literature about the effects of SAP testing on IOP. One prospective study reported that IOP varied significantly and tended to increase immediately after SAP testing in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), but other studies have reported no significant difference [3–5]. Reduced Expression of TFF1 and Increased Expression of TFF3 in Gastric Cancer: Correlation with Clinicopathological Parameters and Prognosis

Abstract: Objectives: The trefoil factor family (TFF) is composed of three thermostable, and protease-resistant proteins, named TFF1, TFF2 and TFF3, and plays a role in gastrointestinal mucosal defence and repair. Recently, TFFs have been found to be related to the development of various types of cancer. This study assessed the relationship between the expression of TFF1 and TFF3 and the clinicopathological parameters in gastric carcinoma (GC). Materials and Methods: The expression of TFF1 and TFF3 was analyzed by immunohistochemistry in 292 GCs and 20 normal gastric tissues. Results: All normal gastric tissues expressed TFF1, but 53.8% of GCs showed reduced TFF1 expression. However, TFF3 was not detected in normal gastric tissues and 44.2% of GCs showed a high level of expression. Highly expressed TFF3 was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis, lymphatic invasion, vein invasion, and advanced stage. The overall survival was shorter in patients with high expression of TFF3 than in those with low expression of TFF3 in 292 GCs and in 125 early GCs (EGCs). Moreover, in patients with EGCs, high expression of TFF3, associated with reduced expression of TFF1, was determined as an independent poor prognostic marker. Conclusions: Reduced expression of TFF1 and increased expression of TFF3 may play a role in the carcinogenesis of gastric cancer. Furthermore, high expression of TFF3 with reduced expression of TFF1 may be a marker of poor prognosis for patients with EGC.
Deep Attribute Networks

Abstract: Obtaining compact and discriminative features is one of the major challenges in many of the real-world image classification tasks such as face verification and object recognition. One possible approach is to represent input image on the basis of high-level features that carry semantic meaning which humans can understand. In this paper, a model coined deep attribute network (DAN) is proposed to address this issue. For an input image, the model outputs the attributes of the input image without performing any classification. The efficacy of the proposed model is evaluated on unconstrained face verification and real-world object recognition tasks using the LFW and the a-PASCAL datasets. We demonstrate the potential of deep learning for attribute-based classification by showing comparable results with existing state-of-the-art results. Once properly trained, the DAN is fast and does away with calculating low-level features which are maybe unreliable and computationally expensive.
Epithelioid sarcoma of the spine: a case report and review  [PDF]

Abstract: Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare malignant soft tissue neoplasm commonly involving extremities of young adults and rarely occurring in the trunk area. It re-sembles a chronic inflammatory process and mimics benign reactive granuloma or other benign diseases. Despite its indolence and slow growth, the prognosis is poor with high recurrence and early lymph node spreading and hematogeneous distant metastasis. Involvement of the spine is extremely rare and diffi-cult to diagnose correctly in clinical presentation and pathology. We describe our experience a case of epi-thelioid sarcoma involving lumbar spine. A pre-ope- rative spine MRI showed a large solid and necrotic paraspinal mass which extended into the spinal canal with cord compression, and bone destruction. Final correct diagnosis was confirmed by immunohisto-chemical studies. When young adults present with a spinal lesion that has unusual large necrotic soft tissue mass, immunohistochemical studies are recommended for promptly determining the possibility of spinal epithelioid sarcoma.
