Splenic lymphangioma that manifested as a solid-cystic mass: A case report

Abstract: Lymphangioma, a congenital malformation of the lymphatic system, is usually found in children, and generally occurs in the neck and mediastinum. It is rarely found in the spleen. The clinical features of splenic lymphangioma typically include abdominal pain, nausea, and abdominal distention. Frequently, however, this condition is asymptomatic and is incidentally detected by abdominal ultrasonography or by an abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan. In this paper, we retrospectively describe a case of incidentally detected splenic lymphangioma in a 30-year-old woman with special abdominal contrast material-enhanced CT findings, which was accurately diagnosed by histopathology. The clinical and physical examinations related to the mass were negative. A few cases of splenic lymphangioma have been reported previously; however, the presentation of the mass and the enhancement pattern in the contrast medium-enhanced CT images were quite extraordinary. These findings had misled our abdominal radiologists to consider it as other neoplastic diseases of the spleen.
Measurement of CO2 Solubility in Tributyl Phosphate

Abstract: The solubility of CO2 in tributyl phosphate (TBP) solvent was measured in a temperature range of 303.15~363.15 K and gas pressure of CO2 up to 4.5 MPa by the constant volume method. The results showed that the solubility increased with the augment of CO2 gas pressure and decreased with the rising of equilibrium temperature. GC/MS and FT-IR analysis results indicated that the capture process of CO2 by TBP could be regarded as physical absorption. The Henry’s coefficient which was obtained by fitting of the experimental data was well consistent with the Henry’s law. It confirmed that there was no chemical change during the adsorption process. Comparing the absorption capacity of TBP with other solvents, the CO2 solubility in TBP was 1.4 times higher than that in ethanol and 0.2 times higher than that in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone under the same conditions.

Abstract: The ESR single and magnetic properties of free standing film of polyaniline (PANI) have been measured as a function of elongation treatment and the protonation state. The results obtained are compared with its powder. The magnetic properties of free standing film of PANI is similar to its powder, and it varies with transition of insulator to metal after protonation. For elongated free standing film of PANI, on the other hand,both Pauli and Curie spin are higher than that of its powder and the free standing film this may be due to increasing of interaction between uncoupled electrons on quinoid ring at PANI chain.
A Novel Compact Archimedean Spiral Antenna with Gap-Loading

Abstract: A novel compact Archimedean spiral antenna with gaploading is investigated in this paper. A circular frame sharing the same centre with the spiral elements introduces a capacitive gap. By adjusting the width of the gap and the width of the circular frame, the initial resonant frequency of the proposed antenna is shifted from 2.79 to 1.93 GHz. Compared with the traditional Archimedean spiral antenna with the same lowest operation frequency, the area of the proposed antenna can be reduced by more than 30simulated radiation pattern results.

The molecular conformation is consolidated by an intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond. The crystal structure is stabilized by π–π interactions between the benzene rings [centroid–centroid distance = 3.588 (2) ].
Protective effects of 5-methoxypsoralen against acetaminophen-induced hepatotoxicity in mice

Abstract: AIM: To investigate the hepatic protective effects of 5-methoxypsoralen (5-MOP) and to learn if 5-MOP causes hepatotoxicity at protective doses. METHODS: C57BL/6J mice were administrated orally with 5-MOP at doses of 12.5, 25 and 50 mg/kg body weight respectively every morning for 4 d before given acetaminophen (APAP) subcutaneously at a dose of 500 mg/kg. The 5-MOP alone group was treated with 5-MOP orally at a dose of 50 mg/kg body weight for 4 d without APAP. Twenty-four hours after APAP administration, blood samples of mice were analyzed for serum enzyme alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) levels, and malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) and oxidized glutathione (GSSG) of liver tissues were measured and histopathologic changes of the liver were observed. RESULTS: Compared with the vehicle control group, the serum levels (IU/L) of ALT, AST and LDH were all increased significantly in APAP group (8355 ± 3940 vs 30 ± 21, P < 0.05; 6482 ± 4018 vs 146 ± 58, P < 0.05; 24627 ± 10975 vs 1504 ± 410, P < 0.05). Compared with APAP group, the serum ALT levels (IU/L) (1674 ± 1810 vs 8355 ± 3940, P < 0.05; 54 ± 39 vs 8355 ± 3940, P < 0.05; 19 ± 9 vs 8355 ± 3940, P < 0.05), AST levels (IU/L) (729 ± 685 vs 6482 ± 4108, P < 0.05; 187 ± 149 vs 6482 ± 4108, P < 0.05; 141 ± 12 vs 6482 ± 4108, P < 0.05) and LDH levels (IU/L) (7220 ± 6317 vs 24 627 ± 10 975, P < 0.05; 1618 ± 719 vs 24 627 ± 10 975, P < 0.05; 1394 ± 469 vs 24 627 ± 10 975, P < 0.05) were all decreased drastically in the three-dosage 5-MOP pretreatment groups. Pretreatment of 5-MOP could attenuate histopathologic changes induced by APAP, including hepatocellular necrosis and infiltration of inflammatory cells, and the effect was dose-dependent. MDA levels (nmol/mg) were decreased by 5-MOP in a dose-dependent manner (0.98 ± 0.45 vs 2.15 ± 1.07, P > 0.05; 0.59 ± 0.07 vs 2.15 ± 1.07, P < 0.05; 0.47 ± 0.06 vs 2.15 ± 1.07, P < 0.05). The pretreatment of 5-MOP could also increase the GSH/GSSG ratio (3.834 ± 0.340 vs 3.306 ± 0.282, P > 0.05; 5.330 ± 0.421 vs 3.306 ± 0.282, P < 0.05; 6.180 ± 0.212 vs 3.306 ± 0.282, P < 0.05). In the group treated with 5-MOP but without APAP, the serum enzyme levels, the liver histopathologic manifestation, and the values of MDA and GSH/GSSG ratio were all normal. CONCLUSION: 5-MOP can effectively protect C57BL/6J mice from APAP-induced hepatotoxicity and possesses an antioxidative activity, and does not cause liver injury at the protective doses.
Ectopic pancreaticobiliary drainage accompanied by proximal jejunal adenoma: A case report

Abstract: A patient with obstructive jaundice was examined by multidetector row helical computed tomography (MDCT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and his common bile duct was observed to be leading into the distal portion of the horizontal duodenum with a pancreaticobiliary union outside the duodenal wall. A mass was also found in the proximal jejunum. All the above findings were confirmed by subsequent surgery, thus contrast-enhanced MDCT and MRI with appropriate image post-processing could provide non-invasive and accurate information regarding anatomy and lesions of the pancreaticobiliary duct and duodenal union, which may improve the feasibility of surgery and reduce postoperative complications.
Peliosis and gummatous syphilis of the liver: A case report

Abstract: Peliosis hepatis is a rare benign vascular disorder of the liver that may be associated with malignancy, infection and drugs. The imaging manifestation of this disorder is often variable and nonspecific making its diagnosis difficult. We describe a rare case of peliosis hepatis and gummatous syphilis of the liver with emphasis on CT findings. Image characteristics of our patient included pseudotumoral appearance of peliosis hepatis, isodensity to the adjacent liver parenchyma on unenhanced and dual-phase scanning. To our knowledge, peliosis hepatis associated with syphilis and unique enhancement pattern has not been reported. Considering the imaging features of peliosis hepatis, it should be considered in the differential diagnosis of atypical focal hepatic lesion.
