Abstract: Voltage sags caused by the short-circuit faults in transmission and distribution lines have become one of the most important power quality problems facing industrial customers and utilities. Voltage sags are normally described by characteristics of both magnitude and duration, but phaseangle jump should be taken into account in identifying sag phenomena and finding their solutions. In this paper, voltage sags due to power system faults such as single phase-to-ground, phase-tophase, and two-phase-to-ground faults are characterized by using symmetrical component analysis and their effect on the magnitude variation and phase-angle jumps for each phase are examined. A simple and practical method is proposed for voltage sag detection, by calculating RMS voltage over a window of one-half cycle. The industrial distribution system at Bajaj hospital is taken as a case study. Simulation studies have been performed by using MATLAB/SIMULINK and the results are presented at various magnitudes, duration and phase-angle jumps.

Abstract: The physics design of a 3 MeV, 30 mA, 352.2 MHz Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) is done for the future Indian Spallation Neutron Source (ISNS) project at RRCAT, India. The beam dynamics design of RFQ and the error analysis of the input beam parameters are done by using standard beam dynamics code PARMTEQM. The electromagnetic stu-dies for the two-dimensional and three-dimensional cavity design are performed using computer codes SUPERFISH and CST Microwave Studio. The physics design of RFQ consisting of the beam dynamics design near the beam axis and the electromagnetic design for the RFQ resonator is described here.

Abstract: Learning takes place in the variety of ways such as home schooling, traditional classroom based learning, distance education, and currently, a computer based learning. These methods are significantly different and accepted worldwide. Out of these, much of attention is focused on the computer-based learning due to their capabilities and effectiveness. It is intended to study effectiveness of the technology based Interactive computer aided learning tool, incorporating simulations, self evaluation and hands on skills components, over a traditional face-to-face classroom based learning. Design of Rectangular-Cut Circular Disc UWB Antenna with Band-Notched Characteristics

Abstract: This paper presents the design of CPW - feed rectangular-cut circular ultra wideband (UWB) antenna with notched-band characteristic. The antenna has been designed on a FR4 substrate with dielectric constant r = 4.4, loss tangent (tan δ) = 0.022 and substrate thickness h = 1.53 mm. The antenna has been optimized to exhibit UWB characteristics from frequency range 3.1GHz–12 GHz except the notched-band frequency 5.2 GHz to 5.8 GHz. The radiation pattern of this antenna is nearly omni-directional in H-plane and bidirectional in E-plane. The effect of various design parameters on notched characteristics have also been analyzed using 3D Electromagnetic simulator based on FEM method. The simulated results are in good agreement with FCC standards showing VSWR <2 throughout the band 3.1GHz to 12GHz, except the notched-band. This antenna can be easily integrated with microwave circuitry and useful for UWB applications.
