Open Journal of Medical Microbiology (OJMM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojmm.2018.83004
Abstract: Purpose: The aim of this study was to isolate and identify potentially pathogenic airborne fungi from Hospital das Clínicas Samuel Libanio in the city of Pouso Alegre-MG and evaluate their susceptibility to natural and industrial products. Methods: The air collection was performed by passive sedimentation in the morning during the autumn and winter seasons. Petri dishes were open as the location of air conditioning. The isolates were subjected to pathogenicity test. The identification of the fungi was performed according to the macroscopic evaluation and micromorphology. Potentially pathogenic isolates were susceptibility tested by disc diffusion method. The agents used were insecticides and industrial cleaning products and essential oils of citronella plants, lemon grass, eucalyptus and Melaleuca extracted by steam distillation method. Results: We obtained a total of 356 fungal isolates. The inside door environments were 126 (35.39%) and the outside environments were 230 (64.6%) isolates. The 22 (6.18%) isolates from the inside and 25 (6.18%) outside the hospital showed pathogenic potential. This isolates were identified as Acremonium spp., A. niger, A. terreus, A. versicolor, Curvularia sp., Penicillium sp. and Scopulariopsis sp. Susceptibility testing it was observed that most of the isolates were susceptible to the principle product containing sodium hypochlorite. Citronella oil showed enormous potential inhibition against all isolates. Already lemon grass oil was effective only against isolates of Penicillium spp. Conclusions: All genres identified are significant allergens, which can cause respiratory disease in both immunocompromised individuals such as asthmatics and people with any immune deficit. The monitoring of environmental sources should be performed, especially in special areas with immunocompromised patients. Despite efforts to try to reduce fungal infections hospital there are still flaws in the strategies employed.

Leite, Luísa Helena Maia;Sampaio, Ana Beatriz de Mattos Marinho;
Revista de Nutri??o , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-52732008000300002
Abstract: objective: to describe the proportion of overweight among patients with human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome and correlate overweight and highly active antiretroviral therapy with metabolic complications. methods: a cross-sectional study was conducted among human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome outpatients undergoing nutritional therapy from 2000 to 2006 in a university health center. the sample consisted of 393 human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome patients. nutritional and medical records were used as a source of data on personal, clinical and biochemical information. data analysis included descriptive statistics and the chi-square test. results: sixty-nine percent of the patients were males aging from 26 to 49 years. overweight and obesity were identified in 49% of this population. the most important metabolic complications were low levels of high-density lipoprotein (70%) and high levels of triglycerides (48%) and cholesterol (40%). higher body mass index was associated with higher lipid levels and more evidence of insulin resistance. conclusion: this study demonstrated an important proportion of overweight and obesity among human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome patients. these results suggest that nutritional interventions and lifestyle modifications may be useful strategies to decrease the cardiovascular risk in this population.

Leite, Luísa Helena Maia;Sampaio, Ana Beatriz de Mattos Marinho;
Revista de Nutri??o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-52732011000100008
Abstract: objective: this study described the anthropometric, clinical and dietary markers associated with cardiovascular risk in hiv-infected persons. methods: a cross-sectional study was done with 100 adults with hiv/aids from rio de janeiro city. the cardiovascular risk was estimated by the framingham risk score. dietary intake was evaluated by a 24-hour dietary recall and a food frequency questionnaire. variables were compared by the student's t- and chi-square tests. results: most of the patients were males (63%) with a mean age of 41.8 years, sd=9.6 years and 77% were taking antiretroviral drugs. the prevalence of metabolic syndrome was 52%, overweight, 47%, and 53% had a framingham risk score >10%. the main cardiovascular risk factors potentially modifiable were: low high-density lipoprotein (70%), high cholesterol (35%), hypertension (35%), smoking (23%) and high blood glucose level (21%). persons with framingham risk score >10% had a tendency to consume diets high in cholesterol (p=0.720), sodium (p=0.898), sugar/sugary foods (p=0.032) and low in fiber (p=0.273), and consumed more alcoholic beverages (p=0.053). lifestyle assessment revealed higher smoking prevalence and low levels of physical activity in the group with framingham risk score >10, but the differences were not significant. conclusion: the results of this study show that patients with hiv/aids under the highly active antiretroviral therapy and higher framingham risk score do not follow the recommendations for the primary prevention of cardiovascular diseases, reinforcing the need of encouraging them to make lifelong healthy food choices, stop smoking and increase their levels of physical activity.

Revista Saúde.Com , 2008,
Abstract: The milk is considered the best food for the baby, or the most skilled for the proper growth and development of children, keeping it away from infections and diseases larger. This study aims to identify the knowledge acquired by mothers visited by scholars of the Project Scope: "We will breastfeed, Mom?" About breast feeding. This is a documentary research, qualitative in nature. We analyzed 93 routes from home visits, for the year 2006. Information was submitted to the technical analysis of thematic content, from which emerged a category: "knowledge gained by the mothers about breast feeding", and eight subcategories. We conclude that the knowledge of the women on breastfeeding, are still scarce, which reinforces the importance of this project, since it allows greater knowledge about breastfeeding, thus providing, reduction in the rates of morbidity and mortality

Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2007,
Abstract: It was aimed to verify carrying, keeping and frequency of use of the masculine preservative among young night club goers in the city of Fortaleza, Ceará. Research traverse of the exploratory-descriptive type of quantitative approach. Population constituted by 211 young night club goers older than 18 years. The data were stored and codified in SPSS. It was observed 124 (58,8%) reported always to use preservatives. Of those who referred to use it not frequently, the main reason for not accepting it was the use of the hormonal contraceptive (43,2%). Of the interviewed people, 130 (61,6%) weren’t carrying preservative and 81 (38,4%) were carrying. 40,7% kept it in the wallet. There was a relationship between the way the preservative was kept and the conditions of the package because those crumpled were all kept in the wallet. It was verified the importance of the discussion of this issue among young, a way of contributing for the reduction of infections, given that these present people risk behavior for DST/AIDS.
