Monitoring of urbanization process by VPAUI Index in Central China from 2001 to 2013——take Wuhan, Changsha and Nanchang as examples

Abstract: 提出一种采用植被物候校正的指数VPAUI,并将其应用于中部城市群的建设用地扩张监测.首先利用植被物候参数对NTL数据进行去饱和处理并构建VPAUI,然后建立建设用地丰度和VPAUI的线性关系模型.以中部城市群的3个省会城市武汉、长沙和南昌为研究区域,利用VAPUI指数进行长时序的监测.结果表明,利用VPAUI提取的建设用地丰度能更好地解决夜间灯光强度饱和现象,能有效辨识出城市扩张的热点区域.在2001年~2013年间,武汉和长沙新增建设用地面积相当,扩张速度由慢变快,发展迅速,南昌建设用地扩张面积偏少,扩张速度由快变慢,发展滞后于武汉和长沙.

Abstract: This paper develops a simple growth model that embeds distorted factor markets and government intervention that achieves high economic growth, low consumption, and high investment simultaneously. All of these phenomena are consistent with Chinese macroeconomic data since the 1990s, implying the inefficiency of economic growth.

Abstract: Effective and careful research has been performed by the Section of Mechanics Teaching and Re-search, Southwest Petroleum University on the content, status, student characteristics of the non-mechanical and non-civil-engineering engineering mechanics course system. Reform ideas and measures, which are also applicable to other common colleges, have been suggested in the course content and course system of engineering mechanics in Southwest Petroleum University. The effectiveness of the reform of the engineering mechanics course system has been validated by actual teaching practice of engineering mechanics in Southwest Petroleum University. Thus, the reform methodology is also applicable to other common colleges.

Abstract: “Time series analysis” is one of the main tools to predict the value of economic variable with the appropriate model to describe the time variation of historical data. “Scenario planning” is a kind of special research method which is used to analyze the macro environment of a subject. In the prediction of the growth trend of economic entities, the two methods can be used to a certain extent to avoid the prediction errors caused by environmental changes. The results showed that the economic growth of Shenzhen during “the 13th Five-Year Plan” would appear a slowing trend.

Vegetation NDVI Change and Its Relationship with Climate Change and Human Activities in Yulin, Shaanxi Province of China  [PDF]

Abstract: Yulin is a typical ecological fragile area in China, and its vegetation ecosystem is so fragile that could be vulnerable to climate change and human activities. Spatial and temporal change of vegetation Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and its relationship with climate change and human activities were analyzed based on MODIS NDVI data from 2000 to 2015, as well as annual temperature and precipitation data from 2000 to 2014, and linear trend analysis, correlation and buffer analysis were used. Result showed: 1) NDVI value was small and vegetation cover was low, but NDVI had a linear growth rate of 0.0096/annum from 2000 to 2015 in Yulin area. The area of growth trend accounted for 97.06% of the total area, while the area with decreased rate was small, which mainly had correlation with human activities, and was distributed in the southwest mountain area, urban neighborhood, and river valley in the middle and east of Yulin area. 2) Correlation analysis between NDVI and temperature, precipitation, respectively, reflected that negative correlation was between NDVI and temperature, while positive correlation was between NDVI and precipitation. Furthermore, the role of precipitation was higher than that of temperature in the process of interaction between NDVI and temperature, precipitation. 3) NDVI change process in the range of human activities indicated that the intensity of human activities in buffer_city area was higher than that in buffer_county area. Buffer_city area was divided into within 5 km area with dramatic impact by human activities, and from 5 km to 9 km area with less impact by human activities, and outside 9 km area with mini-affected by human activities.

Abstract: The literature argues that what is an institution, how institution changes, and the relationship between institutional change and entrepreneurship. I argue that institution is not only the rule in a hierarchical order, but also a rule as something spontaneously and endogenously shaped and sustained in the repeated operational plays of the game itself [1]. Culture and meaning are important in the definition of institution. An institution conceptualized is essentially endogenous, but appears to be an exogenous constraint to the individual agents [2]. Paths of in institutional change have two ways: Demand Induced Change—Bottom-up Change or Supply Induced Changes: Change from above and from outside. Entrepreneurship does an important role during institutional change. Most of researches about the relationship of entrepreneurship and institutional change are how nation’s institution or economic policy influence entrepreneurship, and how entrepreneurs’ actives make the economy successful or unsuccessful. I argue that entrepreneurship is not only concerned with business success, as measured by profits, but also with subjective welfare and noneconomic wellbeing. Entrepreneurship is a catalyst for structural change and institutional evolution. Evasive entrepreneurs could be viewed as a new rule-breaker. In most theories of institutions and entrepreneurship, causality is understood to run from institutions to entrepreneurship [3].

An Efficient Proximal Point Algorithm for Unweighted Max-Min Dispersion Problem*  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we first reformulate the max-min dispersion problem as a saddle-point problem. Specifically, we introduce an auxiliary problem whose optimum value gives an upper bound on that of the original problem. Then we propose the saddle-point problem to be solved by an adaptive custom proximal point algorithm. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is efficient.
