INTRA- AND INTERRATER RELIABILITY OF MORPHOLOGICALLY EVALUATED LYMPHOCYTE APOPTOSIS IN TRAINED AND UNTRAINED OBSERVERS
J.W. Navalta,B.K. McFarlin,T.S. Lyons,A.A. Ramos
Biology of Sport , 2011,
Abstract: Exercise-induced lymphocyte apoptosis has been reported using biochemical analysis and morphological assessment. Morphological evaluation is limited by the subjective nature of the technique. This investigation evaluated the intra- and interrater reliability of trained and untrained observers assessing apoptosis morphologically. Blood smears at baseline (PRE) and following cycle ergometer exercise (POST) were assessed microscopically for each condition. To obtain reliability measures, cell sets were evaluated for morphological characteristics of apoptosis on two separate occasions by trained and untrained observers using the intraclass correlation coefficient. Test-retest reliability for trained observers was higher for both conditions than untrained observers. Interrater reliability was below-average or below acceptable regardless of training status. Exercise may induce apoptotic changes in lymphocytes that are more easily discriminated by trained observers. Investigations assessing exercise-induced apoptosis should train observers in order to produce reliable results, and a single trained observer would be expected to yield the most reliable results.
Distribution Feeder Network Security Enhancement Using Improved Feeder Group Method
T.S. Chung
International Journal of Electrical and Power Engineering , 2012,
Abstract: This study presents an innovative "Feeder Group" distribution network methodology which is developed for planning implementation in one of the power utilities in Hong Kong. The design concept s in feeder utilization, load transfer capabilities among Zone Substations as well as the security enhancement are presented. An improved "Hybrid Feeder Group" design concept is also proposed to reduce the outage time of power interruption due to cable fault. This network operation method is presented in the study with respect to its operational merits.

PRESIDENTIAL ADDRESS - Fungicides in crop health security–the road ahead
T.S. THIND
Indian Phytopathology , 2012,
Abstract: I am highly grateful to the members of the Indian Phytopathological Society for giving me the honour to serve the Society as its President for the year 2011. For my presidential address, I have chosen to discuss about the role of fungicides in ensuring crop health security by managing devastating diseases in agricultural crops. Plant diseases are estimated to cause yield reductions of almost 20% in the principal food and cash crops worldwide. Of the over 100,000 described species of fungi in the world, approximately 20,000 produce one or more diseases in various plants. Over the past 150 years, much has been learnt about the control of plant diseases and several complementary approaches such as cultural methods, biological methods, chemical control and regulatory measures were developed for their control. Depending on the crop, the disease and the availability of control methods, a different set of approach is employed.
Poisonous plants : historical overview : Onderstepoort and veterinary research in Africa
T.S. Kellerman
Onderstepoort Journal of Veterinary Research , 2010, DOI: 10.4102/ojvr.v76i1.56
Abstract: South Africa is blessed with one of the richest floras in the world, which - not surprisingly - includes many poisonous plants. Theiler in the founding years believed that plants could be involved in the aetiologies of many of the then unexplained conditions of stock, such as gousiekte and geeldikkop. His subsequent investigations of plant poisonings largely laid the foundation for the future Sections of Toxicology at the Institute and the Faculty of Veterinary Science (UP). The history of research into plant poisonings over the last 100 years is briefly outlined. Some examples of sustained research on important plant poisonings, such as cardiac glycoside poisoning and gousiekte, are given to illustrate our approach to the subject and the progress that has been made. The collation and transfer of information and the impact of plant poisonings on the livestock industry is discussed and possible avenues of future research are investigated.
LA MúSICA DE LA POESíA
T.S ELLIOT
Atenea , 2009,
Finite element analysis of elliptic cup deep drawing of magnesium alloy sheet
T.S. Yang
Journal of Achievements in Materials and Manufacturing Engineering , 2008,
Abstract: Purpose: In magnesium alloy sheet products have been attracting more and more attention in recent years because of their application potentials as coverings of portable electrical devices and automotive panels. Thus this paper focus on the deep drawing process of magnesium alloy sheet.Design/methodology/approach: The FEM soft ware DEFORM-3D is used to investigate the mateial flow character during the elliptic cup deep drawing of magnesium alloy sheet at elevated temperatures.Findings: Investigate the effective stress and forming load under various process parameter conditions, including the profile radius of die, the clearance between die cavity and punch, the blank holding force and working temperature during the elliptic cup deep drawing of magnesium AZ31 alloy sheet.Research limitations/implications: The initial blank’s shape design and forming limit analysis of the elliptic cup deep drawing of magnesium AZ31 alloy sheet will be continued for future research.Originality/value: The original value of this paper is the finite element method is used to investigate the material flow character, forming load, stress and strain distribution during the the elliptic cup deep drawing of magnesium alloy sheet at elevated temperatures.

Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model on a lattice with two nonequivalent sublattices
T.S. Mysakovych
Condensed Matter Physics , 2011,
Abstract: Phase transitions in systems described by Bose-Fermi-Hubbard model on a lattice with two nonequivalent sublattices are investigated in this work. The case of hard-core bosons is considered and pseudospin formalism is used. Phase diagrams are built in the plain of chemical potential of the bosons-bosonic hopping parameter. It is shown that in the case of anisotropic hopping, the region of the supersolid phase existence is possible for a smaller parameter space.
