South African Journal of Industrial Psychology , 1995, DOI: 10.4102/sajip.v21i1.582
Abstract: The experiences of wives of pilots undertaking overseas flights. The experiences of wives of pilots undertaking overseas flights are explored to generate guidelines for mental health promotion of such couples. An exploratory/ descriptive, qualitative and contextual design was used. Phenomenological semi-structured interviews were con-ducted with a purposively selected sample of seven wives of pilots undertaking overseas flights. A literature control was conducted as a measure of reliability. Results indicated that the wives needed communication with and support from their husbands. Guidelines for mental health promotion of the marital couples were formulated. These guidelines can be operationalised in a mental health promotion programme for airways communities. 'n Literatuurkontrole is uitgevoer as betroubaarheidsmaatreel.

Going places with bodies that can seek and find, eyes that can see, and ears that can hear: Some remarks on the body and understanding in the Gospel of Thomas
J. Liebenberg
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v58i4.722
Abstract: This article discusses the role which “the body” plays in the Gospel of Thomas. Despite the fact that Thomas has often been regarded as “Gnostic, it is interesting to note that significant sayings within the Gospel (referring to “revelation”) involve the body, while there are also a number of sayings which are distinctly anti-material – most notably GTh 17. The article uses the insights of second generation Cognitive Linguistics and the role of primary metaphors to explain this anomaly.
To know what is before one’s face: Group-specific metaphors and the composition of the Gospel of Thomas
J Liebenberg
HTS Theological Studies/Teologiese Studies , 2009, DOI: 10.4102/hts.v58i2.565
Abstract: This article uses the insights of second-generation cognitive linguistics to interpret some of the metaphoric sayings in the Gospel of Thomas. It is an attempt to show how the identification and use of conventional metaphors influence the understanding of poetic language. Group-specific metaphors, as a manifestation of basic conventional metaphors, are identified, providing a conceptual framework against which some Thomas sayings are interpreted. These basic metaphors then provide cohesion for the interpretation of some apparently disparate sayings in the Gospel of Thomas.
